Hey folks - so this is a small taste of what the north of England has to offer. If you love the outdoors it’s the perfect part of the country to explore 😎 I’m a big fan of Yorkshire, so il be trying to visit a lot more. So what’s your fav location in England ?
Definitely the Lake District. It is sublime to say the very least.
I live in Yorkshire and love all the places you mention but I would add one more, the Flamborough Peninsula which is stunning.
@@doommonger7784 According to holiday Hal, they are in the south of the north, or north of the midlands but not quite in the north, west of yorkshire which is in the north of the south north midlands border apart from cumbria, which is in the north of the north north border and not far from wales. Pretty sure everyone knows that.

Oh, you missed Fountains Abbey!! One or the true gems of North England.
Great to see Northumberland mentioned, and deservedly so. Bamburgh and Lindisfarne are worth seeing of course, but so are Berwick-upon-Tweed, Alnmouth, Amble( and other coastal villages),Alnwick. In fact, ALL of Northumberland is worth the time to explore!
Country Durham has some spectacular places and scenery and its the best kept secret in the UK
Pevsner described it as the least well known county, I'm all for keeping it that way.
Living on the South coast, which is beautiful, I have also explored all the places mentioned in this video, so fortunate to have done so. This amazing Country is so beautiful, diverse, and utterly fantastic!
York is my favourite English city. So full of history, culture and food and drink. I went just over a year ago for a weeks holiday and loved every minute. I even took day trips out to other places and went to Whitby and Scarborough as well as Knaresborough which i kept expecting to pop up on this list too. I'm next due in York a month today. Heading over with some friends to try something a bit different. I plan to take them on a ghost walk and a tour of haunted pubs as a Halloween get away. Cannot wait to be back in the amazing city of York.

@@Snowshowslow well there is tons to do in York. Depends what you want out of a trip. If you want history, then the Jorvik Centre, Castle Museum and Clifford's Tower are all great shouts. If you want food and drink, though I've never been myself, Molly's Tearoom is very popular. Usually has a queue though. Or if alcohol is more your thing, the House of Trembling Madness is great (though a bit small), Lil's on the waterfront is a nice little riverside bar and the Golden Fleece is one of Yorks oldest and most haunted pub. If you want shopping, just investigate the whole city, it's full of interesting little local businesses. If you want cites, the Shambles is a popular one and the Minister is incredible (although the price to go.inside is a bit steep.) and of course there is the wall walk which is a must do. And If you are around in the evening, a ghost walk is a must do. In particular there is a fun little bus ghost tour which blends a bit of comedy into the spooky stories. As for Whitby, you have the Abbey which is accessible by a set of steps which is worth climbing in itself as the views from the top are stunning. There are lots of gem and jewellery shops due to the famous Whitby Jet stones. There are often events based around vampires and ghouls due to the connections to Dracula. But overall it's a standard coastal town just with much better sights, amazing shops and streets and some amazing fish and chips shops.

Moved to Lincolnshire 5 years ago and now obsessed with Whitby and Robin Hood's Bay, they are lovely and as for the Dales they are breathtaking.
Made a good choice moving up here, not a world away here at the other side of the Humber Bridge.
Amazing you missed Chester, the only city in England still with it's walls around the whole city, the Unique Rows, the Eastgate clock, the most photographed clock after Big Ben.

I think this guy has classified the north as basically anything between the Mersey and Humber estuaries, so Chester just misses out.
@@Nickel1147 I don't think that would be the case, he did include Bamburgh after all, but the North is a big place and the county of Northumbria constitutes a pretty small part of the overall territory.

FYI - No one in the U.K. would refer to “North England”. Generally “Northern England” or “The North of England” - or for many English people just “the North”.
Or to the Tory Government, "That area north of Birmingham where all the rough, common folk live. "Northern Powerhouse" and "levelling up" my arse. Meaningless, patronising phrases to win votes in former Labour strongholds.

I live In West Yorkshire. While ‘northern England’ or ‘the north’ or ‘up north’ is what’s used I don’t think it would be too weird if someone someone said ‘north England’. It’s not the usual but still Ignore the comments above everyone calls it the north too, It’s used with ‘up’. ‘We live up north’ ‘I love the north’ ‘it’s up north’ ‘the north is better’ etc.

Matlock isn't north, it's midlands. I know because I grew up in Derbyshire, East Midlands, which is were Matlock is.
If Another great spot is Cragside House in Rothbury. Pretty close to Alnwick too which is definitely worth visiting; especially for Harry Potter fans.

A hidden gem not even mentioned is the Upper Eden Valley, Cumbria (Kirkby Stephen area) on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, the Howgills Mountain Range, Lake District National Park and the Pennine Area of Outstanding National Beauty. It is 'far from the madding crowd' (Thomas Hardy), a beautifully wild, peaceful and tranquil place, where nothing has really changed in centuries.
He’s also missed Grassington, Settle, Dent amongst others. There’s way too many places in the north to include them all.
You actually have said what I kept thinking. All of these mentioned are great. I have been Whitby for years and it is like many known about. That is not a criticism just that yes include a years long if you have to of all the smaller villages and market towns etc mentioned here and by Martin.
Thomas Hardy's books were mainly set in Dorset!(He wrote " Far from the Madding Crowd")

I wish you spent a bit more time in each. I know it’s a short vid but , the places are really cool & the vid quality is good.
Great video. A good blend of spots I'd heard of and some I hadn't. The lass and I were struggling to find good videos with places to visit for our honeymoon and this is the best one we had found that shows truly lovely spots and gives both a nice narrated summary and good footage.
Next video Cotswolds Rodborough some beautiful views and a nice local pub, a suggestion. Great photography also.

Great video. The pictures look amazing, although never heard of Staithes, yet the seaside village looks picturesque. Apart from growing up near the lake district, a day in Kendall years ago. Otherwise, just to drive through in car or train to get to the cities of the southeast of England.😊

A lovely video. However, you missed out the following important content regarding the area around Malham. These are Gordale Scar, the Limestone escarpment and Janet’s Fosse all known for there geological interest and beauty and all within minutes walking.

Staithes is never pronounced with a soft "th", it's a hard "th" as in "then". That's as well as the local pronunciation "Steeaz".
My parents always called it steers
Keswick is pronounced Kesick as the w is silent like in Greenwick.

Obviously, you were limited in the number of different places you could highlight, and so concentrated on various localities, but something well worth mentioning would have been The Leeds-Liverpool Canal. This passes through varied landscapes: urban and rural, and stretches from West Yorkshire all the way to Merseyside. It crosses the pennines, skirts The Yorkshire Dales and surrounding areas of natural beauty, and highlights are 'The Three Rise' and 'The Five Rise' locks at Bingley, where canal boats are raised up by a total height of over 88ft (27m) by two series of lock-gates which were an engineering marvel when built in 1773/1774, are still working and are still a marvel of engineering to this day.
"marvel of engineering to this day" It's a few bits of wood for gates and some water. Joking. It is an incredible sight to see. I've been through them a few times, takes a while but you should never be in a rush on a canal boat anyway
No visit to the Yorkshire Dales is complete without a trip to the Tan Hill Inn, England's highest pub, and for older viewers, the setting of a TV advertisment for double glazing

The north of England. My country. The most beautiful in the world. Pity I had to move away because every agricultural field you see here is heavily poisoned with agricultural chemicals sprayed several times during the year. Chemicals not allowed in Europe as "drift" off the poisoned fields is considered too dangerous for human health. England used to have millions of beneficial insects, songbirds in the hedgerows (now pulled up to make fields bigger), wild flowers everywhere. Now it Rachael Carson's "Silent Spring" come true.
