Shamima Begum has lost her latest bid to overturn a decision by the UK government to strip her British citizenship.
The Court of Appeal ruling means she remains in Syria with no chance of return to the UK.
Begum left her home in London aged 15 in 2015 to travel to Syria to join Islamic State group.
The now 24-year-old's lawyers brought a bid to overturn a 2023 decision at the Court of Appeal, with the Home Office opposing the challenge.
The Home Office argued the "key feature" of Begum's case was national security.

She was smuggled into Syria by a smuggler then held in a building with about 100 other women and weren’t allowed to leave until they were married. It definitely fits the definition of trafficking. She was lied to about what it was like there, how she would be treated she was groomed into being a terrorist. I do think she could be a danger but I think she should be imprisoned in the uk instead of in prison camps in Syria

It’s a legal thing. You can keep appealing all the way to the European court of human rights I believe. Before that she’ll go to Supreme Court. She probably has a couple of appeals left until she runs out of appeal options. Then they’ll try ‘new evidence’ and appeal with that. Legal process is pretty relentless
Apparently she has Bangladeshi citizenship, but they don't want her either, if she returns they will probably use the death penalty, the biggest mistake UK Government could make is to let here back on UK soil, the kick off would not be pretty !

But, realistically she was a minor and there's no way you can convince a minor living in a relatively stable environment particularly in the west to up and leave for a unstable war zone without some level of coercing and grooming. You don't convince them to do it over one simple text, you'd build a rapport with them feel heard and seen before you start manipualting them. Also when British people are killed by extremists who trained in Libya after Gaddafi was killed, such as in Tunisia and the Manchester concert, no media reminds people of when the secret service whistle blower David Shayler told how Britain was going along with the USA funding Al Qaeda in Libya to kill Gaddafi. In Bangladesh there was not as much a single protest or much media activity when they revoked her citizenship. Yet in the UK there has been almost a decade of a media circus around this girl. Maybe it is harsh, but life is harsh, and if you chose to go fight or support a terrorist organisation that's what happens. What kind of emboldening message does it send to domestic terror threats and international hostile actors if we allow her to come back to the UK... We cannot continue to let the UK be seen as that naïve old grandparent to be taken advantage of. I noticed how many people repeat conspiracy theories they read online, which are dismissed as they don't have any proof. Shamima Begum had Bangladesh citizenship until it was removed on her 21st birthday by the Bangladesh government. This is not an issue for the British government to consider, they did not strip her of this nor can they reinstate this. Her claims of being stateless are not the responsibility of the British government.

Spot on in mentioning that BBC would be disappointed, the lawyer in Ms Begum's case is talking as if her client was innocent and government was to blame. It would be precedent for other such cases in future and government should stick the decision of deprivation.
She was old enough to know better than to join a terrorist group when she did it anyway. Justice has been served and I really can't show her any empathy. How many people were attacked, suffered, or were brutally killed because of her actions. Perhaps she was not involved in the fighting, but she likely joined that terror organization to support it. When an organization get's support, it encourages them to do more of what they have been doing.

In my own humble opinion, her mitigating factors should have been that she was not fully adult. However, she was in a comfortable position eg: living and studying in Britain. She decided to stop that level of comfort, renouncing it, and the freedom that she was naturally recognised to her at birth, to serve a different cause
