AI must not control nuclear weapons, US State Department urges China and Russia | BBC News

Paul Dean, a United States official in the State Department, asked China and Russia to declare that only humans - and not artificial intelligence (AI) - will make decisions on deploying nuclear weapons.
Officials in China and Russia have not immediately issued a comment.
A dizzying array of AI-assisted tools is under development or already in use in the defence sector.

  • Most of the interview was about AI in warfare, but the guest did briefly mention how the tech companies say AI will be workers' assistants and every company asks the tech companies instead, "How many workers can I lay off with AI?" And yet to lighten the mood at the end, they go to a musician who's having fun with AI to write songs. That musician is going to be replaced by AI because that's what studios want, not an AI assistant but something that can eliminate workers. I wish the BBC could be consistent with their coverage of AI. If this were an essay, I'd say it was very muddled in exactly what they are trying to inform their audience of

Stop making your own narrative and awarding it to Russia's goal. You clown, Russia never intended to conquer Ukraine. If they did they would have killed Zelensky, Carpet bombed Kiev to rubble and blow up all the bridges in the Diniper River Ukraine is using to transport all food ammunition, weapons and reinforcements in the first few days of the conflict. Russia's goal is not territorial conquest but the destruction of the Ukrainian military as a effective fighting force by attrition and it's ability to conduct war. How do they plan to do that, by killing as many Ukrainian soldiers and destroying as much Ukranian military equipment as possible and by breaking the Ukrainian military will to fight. They are not following any schedule or time frame until they get the job done. They have already killed over 600 000 Ukranian soldiers and maimed 1 million Ukranian soldiers more. Ukraine is running out of men, nobody wants to fight for Ukraine anymore and it's soldiers are surrendering on mass numbers every single day. Territorial gain in Eastern Europe has no strategic value. As a matter of fact controlling is a massive waste of resource and menpower. That is why Russia gave huge swaths of territory to both Napoleon, THE Swedes and Hitler in order to extend their militaries, weaken them and wipe them out. China did the exact same thing with the Japanese in WWII. territorial gain and taking control of territory is a Western military school of thought obessession, not a Russian one.

    • When did Putin ever say he wanted to conquer Ukraine and take over Kiev? In every single interview and speech he said the complete opposite. • Go live in those sh!thole countries with zero human rights then. Bad mouth their leader and see what kind of hell awaits you. USA does not use nuclear blackmail anymore. Look at countries like Russia and China. Every week they’re threatening nuclear apocalypse over some trivial garbage. Read a book on nuclear doctrine and see for yourself who’s the crazy lunatic country.

  • Connor Leahy of Conjecture who appears here is a very interesting guy with some disconcerting theories on A I. In fact theyre not just theory. A lot of neural net A I. processes are so poorly understood that of itself it is already a threat. Transition from human interface to A.I. interface is the most frought development of this year. Yes. It will be that quick. Pixel response weapon deployment is open to error. Dragonfire itself is only possible with A I. Targeting already and is setto be actively used in Ukraine. In many ways AI is opening the Pandoras box of thermonuclear war. Rapidly.
