Richard and Susanna talk exclusively to Shamima Begum. In 2015, she left the UK aged 15 to join ISIS. She was found, nine months pregnant, in a Syrian refugee camp in February 2019 and the then home secretary, Sajid Javid, cancelled her British citizenship on security grounds.
Susanna and Richard question Shamima's intentions and her reasoning why she left the UK to join ISIS. She tells them she's asking the British people to forgive her claiming she 'thought she was 'doing the right thing as a Muslim' by joining ISIS and she 'did not want to hurt anyone'. She asks for the British public to 'forgive' her and says she sympathises with people because she has 'lived in fear of ISIS and lost loved ones because of ISIS.'

I am an Iranian who came to USA 10 years ago and god I am every day grateful of United States, to me that’s how I see it: I was dead before and US and it’s people gave me a chance to live and be myself, that’s why if there is any country that I will die for will be US because I owe it to now my country as a US citizen and it’s great people. Makes me sicken and sad to see someone was fortunate enough to born in UK or US not seeing what they have here without fighting for it and they go against all these values and yet now they feel entitled all these rights to come back to them again as they wish!

Her 3 kids died in the refugee camp. Two due to diseases, one of malnutrition. What was their fault? They didn't deserved. If she was returned and judged in UK, those kids would be alive today! There are countries (UK included) that return males that were part of ISIS, then they're judged and jailed for their crimes. Why is easier for the ones that really killed people to return but not for the girls that are treated as baby machines in most cases?

I’ve been down the rabbit hole of watching videos of life after ISIS for the wives and the body language speaks for itself. You can tell who’s being genuine and who isn’t. The foreign girls and women who fled their countries to join ISIS, when talking about their experiences there is no remorse, still extremely hostile and combative when asked questions, smirking or smiling when talking about things that should send you into a spiral and not a tear in sight. Compared to the girls and women who were captured and forced wives, you can see the severe trauma in their eyes, the tremor in their voices and the sheer lack of words from trying to refrain from reliving traumatic things they’d seen and been through. You can obviously tell which wives were treated better and the arrogant attitude still sticks on them now. The superiority complex clearly hasn’t worn off. You just know they’d jump at the chance to rejoin ISIS if they ever became prevalent again. I suggest giving these women back to their home countries and throwing them in prison so the refugee camps don’t have to deal with them.

From the beginning she knew about the ISIS organization and still made a conscious decision to align with them. The same standard and consequences should be applied here, and so the question is: Did she do, or participate in, anything illegal? If so, then that should be the basis for any consequences.
