David Gilmour - Comfortably Numb (Live In São Paulo, Brazil)

2020 ж. 6 Там.
10 039 079 Рет қаралды

This is footage from the David Gilmour performance at Live froAllianz Parque, São Paulo, Brazil on December 12th, 2015 playing the Pink Flyod classic " Comfortably Numb".
Gilmour was impressed by the Latin American fans. “This was the first time I’ve ever been to South America and I was quite excited. The venues were vast - we would play to 50,000 a night. The audiences are so fantastic and enthusiastic, but polite at the same time and it’s a much more even split between men and women.”
The band was:
- David Gilmour - electric guitars, lead vocals
- Phil Manzanera - High-strung acoustic guitar
- Guy Pratt - bass guitars, backing vocals
- Jon Carin - piano, keyboards, electric guitars, backing vocals
- Kevin McAlea - keyboards
- Steve DiStanislao - drums, percussion, backing vocals
- João Mello - saxophones
- Bryan Chambers - backing vocals
- Lucita Jules - backing vocals

    • Yes, the feeling's there. I change one word when I sing along with this -- it's hard for me to say "have become", so I say "I won't become comfortably numb." And that's been true, mostly true, for over 40 years. I've even thought of it as my "parting song", the last one I'll go out with. If I could just play those riffs!

You won't find another Masterpiece like Dark Side of the Moon either. I'm glad the youth of the world understands this. I'm almost 70. I have seen the band 4 times in 55 years. It never gets old. I just cannot believe the absolutely and complete total trashy, shitty, music that’s out there right now. I do not get it. Look at Zeppelin- top 10 guitarist, bassist and lead- EVER….The Who- same….top 10 guitarist and arguably best bassist to ever pick up and insane vocals. Same with all the other greats. And now what do we have…Taylor, Harry Styles, etc. Enjoy that crappy music you guys bc it doesn’t hold a candle to bands like this.

Every time I hear this solo, I'm left sitting here absolutely numb from the sound and raw emotion it evokes in me. They don't make guitarists like David Gilmour anymore.

Classic music is classic music, no matter how young or old. I was a senior in high school and knew from the first time I heard this song it would NEVER EVER get old to me...and even after more than 40 years, it has not...and this live version is absolutely mesmerizing! The raw emotion on the face of the girl at 4:19 is so passionate and moving it brought me to tears.. I wonder what was going through her mind???

Because of this song when I was playing The Wall when he starts digging in on his guitar for the solo I knew I was missing something and bought a bass unit and the first thing I did was go back and played Comfortably Numb again and turned it up but this time I felt it the way he meant it to be heard. They know the songs so much better than that one day decades ago in the recording studio when the song was new to them too. I don't think Gilmour has ever played this the same twice, and I've never seen a live version that wasn't better than the studio version (which is still great).

  • I've seen some great bands in my 67 years but, none come anywhere near as great as Pink Flyod. I can play this track over and over and it never gets old, an absolute master class in guitar playing.

  • This song is about a man going insane, and the guitar solo at the end expresses how his mind is cascading into madness as it continually ascends.Just masterful, putting so much emotion into his guitar.

  • When I hear this song and watch Dave play that lead; it makes it all worth while. I got to see them live two times. I consider myself blessed. I'm 80 years old now and they still move me to my core. To me they were and still are the best Band in the World.

  • This song reminds me of times when I wasn’t myself, facing anxiety and going through depression. Not being able to convey what I was going through. Feeling numb to the world and everyone around me. But to know that there is a breakthrough and what your experiencing is something that is leading you towards salvation and clarity. As if your shedding old skin and finding that key that unlocks that door you’ve been trying to open for maybe years. An awakening.
