Boost Your Spawner 600% with This Simple Trick. Copper Farms for 1.17+ [Fun Farms 38]

Today we have 38th Episode of Fun Farms, where I explain how we can farm copper from drowned spawned from zombie reinforcements and how to improve the efficiency of your spawner setup by 600% with this simple trick.
World Download - 1.17+:
bit.ly/ff38_copper
One important thing that was pointed by one of you is that water will not be pushing drowned at night below Y62. If you built your setup above Y62 - you are fine, but even if you built it below Y62, you are still fine since the mass of zombies incoming will push out the drowned on its own. The only difference you might find in a single zombie spawner setup without reinforcements, but what's the point of that anyways.
To demonstrate reinforcement mechanics I used a custom scarpet script that required some extra modding, and was mostly for informative purposes, so its not available for download. In case you just need to show the reinforcement zones for a zombie or drowned, use the following command (with carpet mod), and then right click a zombie or a drowned with a stick:
/script download utilities/reinforcement_zones.sc

    • The final build is like an old nuclear reactor. Start with one zombie, get a small wave going through the "threads", gradually building, and after a few waves, it ramps up to full scale. Also getting like 410 ingots per hour JUST off the 2-thread spawner model. WOW. I did not imagine a single spawner could be so productive. (Testing on 1.17 with a loot table identical to 1.17.1 drowned rates)

  • I loved the voiceover of "actually decent" for "actually decent amount of copper." Very funny and true. This is probably the first drowned farm that can give enough copper to justify not going mining for it, especially with the 1.17.1 changes. • Great video Gnembon, you made an amazing video exploring and exploiting the zombie reinforcement mechanics. Zombified Piglins can also spawn in zombie reinforcements. You could make some kind of gold and copper farm by sending the zombies into the overworld for processing.

    @jophmac@jophmac2 жыл бұрын
    • I just did a little bit of research, unfortunately it seems zombified piglins won't call reinforcements in the overworld. I was hoping that using that mechanic would eliminate the need for there to be any zombies holding rotten flesh as gnembon suggested. Using portal spawning mechanics, you wouldn't even need a zombie spawner to start with. However, that didn't work. The main problem I see here otherwise is that I can't think of a way to ensure that you get a fairly even number of drowned to zombified piglins. While i don't think the reinforcements add to the mob cap in either case, it seems like you would either run a farm in the nether dominated by zombie piglins, or one in the overworld spawning only zombies. That said, it would be interesting to see one of these modified to spawn in the nether and convert drowned in the overworld, as I think you're suggesting. I haven't tried it, so I don't know what the rates would look like. But since the point of this farm was to make copper in the first place, it might defeat the purpose if spawning all those zombie piglins cuts majorly into the number of zombies you can convert into drowned. It might be better, in the words of Ron Swanson, not to half-ass two things, but to "whole-ass" one thing at a time. It would be cool to see this idea work, there are just a number of complications I am trying to think through. But hey, if anyone can figure it out, it's gnembon!

  • Dang I was waiting till the other half of 1.17 to do any survival but seeing this made me want to start a new world right now. Incredible work, this would have been nice for the scicraft skyblock to get iron from zombies.

  • Congratulations with your work with MC, thought I'd mention it to the big man himself. What about a structure update, like the pillagerss mantion, imagine a pillagers castle and the loot, like the wall, outer and inner castle, the dungeons and towers, they could have villagers that would give you cheap trades if you rescued them. Epic idea. Again congratulations.

  • This is not an insult. I was having trouble falling asleep for months since the covid started. Watching your video help me sleep like a baby. I have been watching you since the day I discovered Minecraft back in 2019. You make great videos, you explain stuff well enough for me to understand bit and pieces even if I'm not smart enough. Thank you for creating contents you help me a lot more than you realize.

  • Material List, for anyone wondering: -23837 tinted glass (you can use any solid block) -1184 chains (i think the farm also works if you use glass panes but I am not sure, so just make an iron farm) -1184 stone (any solid block) -489 magma blocks -389 wood trapdoors (any kind of wood) -212 signs -144 cobwebs (a few mineshafts/stronghold libraries should do the trick) -144 walls (any walls, cobblestone walls look good) -128 iron dors -32 soul sand -32 pressure plates (any type) -20 slabs (any type) -19 redstone dust -16 stairs (any type) -13 oxidised copper (I used normal blocks yet again and the farm worked fine) -10 comparators -8 hoppers -5 sticky pistons -5 concrete powder (Any gravity affected block works here) -5 wool -5 hopper minecarts (In the video he puts one minecart in each of the five blocks, but I recommend adding more. I used 5 in each slot so I am sure that I will never miss out on any drops) -3 ladders -3 lever -1 dropper -1 redstone torch -1 torch NOTE: If you want to build the farm so that the top block is at y 256, then the wool below the hoppers at the killing area should be at y 220!!! I began building the farm from bottom to top, starting with the killing area and I recommend you do as well!

  • this is so interesting, thanks Gnembon I can't wait to try this out on my server.

    • I built this on my server. It's not the easiest thing to build in survival but maybe that would change if I'd practiced the build first. Amazingly it worked out of the box, I was well pleased. We haven't opened up the end yet so as an overworld xp grinder it works well with the added bonus of copper.

    • Did you have any issues while building it?

      @xvyz..@xvyz..2 жыл бұрын
    • @@xvyz.. no issues as such, it's just tricky deciding on the order to build. I put in the walls and cobwebs then had to take them out again to place the gates. Other than that it was pretty ok. Tedious placing all the snow golems and they have a habit of not going where you want them but as long as you have a good supply of pumpkins and snow then you just kill off the wayward ones and spawn in a new one (I set up a golem in a nearby cave to replenish my snow). I'm now having a problem triggering the spawner to make it start but I'm getting round that by standing nearer the zombie spawner for a few seconds to trigger the first few, then it ramps up nicely. Over all I'm really happy with this. It's easily the fastest overworld xp farm that I've ever built.

    • @Paul Dowie thank you so much, I really appreciate the thorough response. I’m surprised and exited that the farm is quite easy to build and the drops are certainly worth the little pain there is to building this farm. Thank you again!

    • I built the large one in my world, it wasn't too hard to build using a schematic. If you don't have enough pumpkins, keep in mind you can shear the snowmen to get the pumpkin back. If the tinted glass is the issue, it might be quicker to clear the space around the geode and then use fortune rather than building up a piston farm. The fortune boost is just so large you'd probably need a lot of AFK time for the pistons to overtake it. I guess you could use other blocks instead of tinted glass, but it is nice to look in and see it's working. Sadly it looks like a regen beacon is not enough to offset both hunger and the occasional thorns damage, so I guess I'll have to find a way to keep my food stocked while AFK. On a related note, don't forget to do something about the baby zombies. Nothing like respawning after a failed AFK session to a couple dozen baby zombies spawn camping your bed equipped with all your netherite gear.

  • This is incredible, such a cool concept. If you don't have a zombie spawner you could also make a villager breeder with a zombie converter to jumpstart the machine (the z vills don't convert to drowned, but they would still jumpstart the farm as long as pack spawning works on them). Using this method would make the farm fully chunkloadable, but not for copper drops, meaning chunkloading it would be useless unless you need a ton of rotten flesh.

  • What I like about tinted_glass is it stops the skybox light from updating past it but still lets us see through it. Unlike normal glass which is invisible to the sky light and allows sky light to constantly update whatever is under the normal glass. Tinted glass is the perfect sun-roof material, have fun rolling it on !
