** Why Do We Hunt Hogs? **
Feral hogs in Texas attacked and killed a woman outside a home: • Caretaker attacked, ki...
Wild boar, or feral hogs, are a non-native and invasive species in Texas. Each year hogs cause millions of dollars in damage in the form of damaged crops, contaminated water supplies, broken equipment, transmission of disease and injury to livestock.
Feral hogs compete with native wildlife for resources and also prey directly on the eggs and young of ground nesting birds and will actively hunt small mammals, frogs, lizards and snakes.
Feral swine are not considered game animals in Texas and may be hunted by any means or methods at any time of year.
Due to their intelligence, adaptability, and prolific breeding habits, traditional methods of hunting and trapping have been largely ineffective in reducing the feral hog population. The introduction of night vision and thermal optics has greatly increased landowners' ability to mitigate the destruction caused by feral hogs.

  • Rice farmers here on Texas coast let me and my buddies hunt their farms for free, and paid us the first weekend $700 to kill just one hog that was a truck/gun/sent wary 380 lb. sow that had 10 piglets. He paid $50 per piglet. She had destroyed 22 acres of field in one back area you can't really walk in at all. Only way in and out is by JD track type Tractor. We got her. Farmer picked up the hogs with tractor, took to processor, paid for it all. He was so proud of us, so happy to see us get her. We were proud too! Then.... The other farmers heard we had slayed the terror of three farms! They called, said please come out an meet them. Look over here...if you liked hunting hogs, here's over 200. Same deal. No lie...they begged us to come. You could hear in 10 minutes something else in their voices, the agony, the dread. They had gunned them for years...in teams. Just can not kill the hogs out enough. Year after year...agony! I found more guy's with guns! The hunt changed to a rescue mission. We fought over a 4 week stretch to hunt 16 nights. It was great and horrible at the same time. Facing nasty mosquitos, heat, humidity and fatigue...killed 14 sows, 146+ piglets, 10 boars appox. The farmers made us feel like hero's. We were welcomed to hunt deer on all the farms with treed areas the coming season. Bring the kids...the place is yours...real appreciation for you doing what they knew was a rough, nasty job. THEY'VE DONE IT FOR YEARS! I burned through four AR15/AR10 gun swinging, wanna hunt hog friends! LOL..Half night/One night wonders! It was nasty. Hardest hunt 14 of us, rotating in and out or together, all at once we ever did. Mud would suck you boots off. So sticky one step...your boot bottom weighed 8 pounds! Then there was the smell of old Texas sulphur tinged, stinking mud. Again..always present the devils from Hell! My! GOD! HELP US! MOSQUITOS THE SIZE OF YOUR THUMB NAILS! You make lifetime friends of the farmers but you lose the hero stuff pretty quick. You cringe at the thought your phone will ring showing a farmers ID. It means hogs! I bet you, I have a lifetime of pork already, in two huge freezers. I have given three times as much away! You KZhead guys that can safely use a gun, any gun, anything that kills hogs....look-up and call the rice grower associations. Tell them you want to hunt and kill the smartest, toughest animal on Earth! Or..Google any rice farm anywhere! It will be your greatest test as a man with a gun. At the same time I promise you, the farmers on the Texas coast, honestly, will see you at each night, or days end as heros. Honest and real appreciation for all you did or just tried to do. They know...you can't sustain it, but you are loved..and appreciated for even trying! You will see that. I know you read this and scream bullshit, but I've been there. My proudest hunts of all hunts! Now, I'm like the first farmers I met, burned out on trying to wipe them out. But these farmers are married to, rooted in that farm...these hogs are overrunning all they and their kids have worked hard for! Get on the phone...bring your guns! They need you! I LOVED THIS VIDEO! I liked most the level dry flat ground with grass or short crops. The gun work was skilled! You could drive up and load the hogs. Watching them walk without falling seemed a luxury, shoot without a full netted cover over their heads so easy and pleasant. A real joyful hunt! Heavenly comes to mind! I'm happy they got the hogs, envious of such a nice field to hunt. No devils, just hogs! LOL

  • Hello from England. I am a firearms owner who follows the debate in America about the ownership of certain kinds of rifle. It seems to me that every time a politician states that no hunter requires a semi-automatic rifle with large capacity magazines, then that politician should be compelled to farm where these feral pigs are eating his produce and profits and arm him with a bolt action rifle and see how well he might protect his crops.

      @thecasualfront7432@thecasualfront74325 жыл бұрын
    • @@thecasualfront7432 Indeed but what type of steel fence are you thinking of? Feral pigs still go under barbed wire fences. In countries like Australia and the USA where farms and ranches can be the size of English counties, I think the cost of fencing would be ruinous for the farmer. In Australia there is at least one cattle station that is bigger in area than Wales. If fences were put in place, the feral pigs, which are not native species, would still have to be eradicated from inside the fences for the land to recover. Any enormously long fence would also interfere with the natural movement of native species. In addition to pigs, Australia also has to control feral water buffalo which cause enormous damage to wetlands in the tropical north.
