On 23 June 1942 the German Ministry of Armaments proposed a 1,000-tonne tank - the Landkreuzer P. 1000 Ratte. Adolf Hitler expressed interest in the project and the go-ahead was granted.
In December, Krupp designed an even larger 1,500 tonne vehicle - the P. 1500 Monster. The P. 1500 was to be 25 m (82 ft) long, weighing 1800 tonnes, with a 250 mm hull front armor, four Daimler-Benz MB.501 diesel aero engines, and an operating crew of over 100 men.
This "land cruiser” would have been a self-propelled platform for the 800mm Schwerer Gustav K (E) gun artillery piece - the heaviest artillery weapon ever constructed by shell weight and total gun weight, and the largest rifled cannon by calibre.

    • Unlike the Ratte, which had some thought given into and a few parts built or at least prototyped, the Monster was purely conceptual and was mainly for propaganda, like a few other "massive tank" designs that "existed" near the end of the war.

  • The Ridge Wallet, produced in 1944 as a last-ditch effort to stop the Allies, it was an immense but due to its low width it was deadly, bombers and attackers could not locate them as they were a titanium line of impending doom! loaded with Credit Card Round that would swipe even the strongest of frontal armor on any of the heaviest tanks! | In 1945 the crews of the Ridge Wallet were cramped and had back pain due to the poor conditions it offered for the crew, so the majority of crews ultimately lost to surrendering. | The Allies located the blueprints in a German Bunker and reconstructed the Ridge Wallet on a smaller scale, the 1950s came around and the US figured out how to make Credit Card Round, the whole US was swiping the heaviest of armor the ATMs prevailed for them, it was revolutionary!

    • @@CoolGobyFish the theory was it doesnt have to cross bridges if it can cross along the bottom (or in the case of the Ratte or Monster, is simply tall enough to cross any river without submerging). Turns out that doesnt work though because river beds are soft and when you're already fighting your enormous ground pressure to not get stuck on dry land, being underwater in a 100+ton steel box with no flotation gear is a death sentence. I admire the Soviets for managing to get the wrecked Maus prototype all the way to Kubinka. It's the furthest anyone ever moved the darn thing.

    • @@davidthomas2870 yes, they probably took it apart. also, the prototype doesn't have an engine. so it's significantly lighter. it was actually put together from two prototypes. the one with the engine was blown up by Nazis. So the turret was taken from it and the chassis was from the unfinished one (without an engine)

      @CoolGobyFish@CoolGobyFish3 жыл бұрын
    • @@CoolGobyFish true, but that's still a lot of work and an impressive feat to disassemble and reassemble it even as complete as it is given the lengths the germans took to destroy it. Also, the hull and turret are all one piece, so those at least remained together. That's a lot of metal

    • @@kons37flyingreaperoldchann21 it’s “a meter” not “an meter”. Let me teach you this, it’s very simple and it will improve your English. If a word begins with a vowel, these are: a,e,i,o,u,y, then you use “an” for example: an oven an English breakfast If a word starts with a consonant: b,c,d,etc... you use “a” for example: a car a person If you’re not sure if it’s a vowel or a consonant, try pronouncing three of them in a row. You can’t pronounce three consonants, but you can pronounce three vowels. For example: You can pronounce: aaa You can’t pronounce: ttt If you don’t pronounce a consonant, it doesn’t count, like “An honorable man” as the guy replying said. Then the letter next to it counts. But this is confusing, so you don’t have to take this seriously until you speak English fluently.
