Behemoth battleship has landed !
Birth of KV-6 Behemoth
In July 1941, Stalin found out that a single KV-2 had stopped an entire German Kampfgruppe for more than a day during the Battle of Raseiniai. Stalin was exhilarated , he ordered his designers to build a land battleship based on the KV-2 design.
When the designers highlighted to Stalin that three turrets made the vehicle too long to have an acceptable turning radius, Stalin replied “It doesn’t need to turn, it will drive straight to Berlin.”

The Americans, faced with Tigers, Panthers and Royal Tigers (Tiger 2), very effectively destroyed them with aircraft . And the leadership of the USSR understood that such monsters would devour a huge mass of resources ( and time is the most important and irreplaceable resource ) but at the same time, they will not bring any benefit . The T-34s (of all modifications, excluding the chassis for self-propelled guns ) produced 35,000 units, about 26 tanks a day . • Progrev was meant to clear the minefields. As it turns out, jet exhaust is very good way of yeeting a lot of mud and yeeting or forcing to explode mines. Trouble is, both tend to ricochet, so there were too much cases of mines bouncing back, damaging the engine and rendering machine inoperable. As a result, these were mostly reappointed as airport snow cleaning machines. Quite a cerosene hogs, but nothing could rival the speed of these monsters. And, with USSR oil yields at a time, fuel consumptions was more of logistics concern than economical concern. Which was zero efforts matter on their airport duties due to both these machines and planes they accomodated using same fuel.

The 152mm ML-20 Howitzer was not used in the KV-2 either. The ML-20 Howitzer was used in the SU-152 and ISU-152 Self Propelled Guns.

    • @@xgamerbih How does the percentage of the educated population relate to what you are talking about now? we in Russia had many great minds at that time, including engineers and designers. Russia was far from the last in terms of development, although the tsar tank is an absolutely crazy idea, I agree with that. But the main problem was more in industry, but certainly not in education, as is commonly believed. The Russian Empire was rapidly reducing illiteracy. this is a very broad topic and I am not going to explain it. But there is one good monograph by Moscow State University on this score. Just to quote a piece about secondary education by the beginning of the 20th century: "1) Russia in the period under review had a very developed system of" advanced "secondary education. Moreover, if in the middle of the nineteenth century, about the same number of students were taught in Russian educational institutions as in Germany and France, taken separately, then during the reign of Nicholas II in Russian gymnasium-type educational institutions had about the same number of students as in France, Germany and England put together, that is, Russia already at that moment became a world “superpower” in terms of advanced types of education, and the quantitative leap took place precisely in the last reign. 2) The Russian system of gymnasium education has developed much faster than in European countries. So from the 30s of the XIX century to the 10s of the twentieth century, the French secondary education system has grown 2.5 times, and the Russian more than 20 times. " Source: istina.msu.ru/publications/book/155834504 page 37 The majority of young people in central Russia were very literate. The statistics were spoiled by the older generation from the bottom and the national borderlands. You need to understand the logic of the emperor to understand why the outskirts were illiterate. In general, the Russian empire rarely went to the foreigners with their own orders. For the empire, the main thing is loyalty, in other words: do what you want, the main thing is not to break the laws and go about your traditional way of life. Even in the Russian Imperial Army, it was mainly exclusively Russians who fought. Because the Russian authorities did not want to teach foreigners to fight.

  • This was very interesting. Thanks for posting it. That said, one proposed Soviet tank was conspicuous by its absence: The 1000 Ton Grotte Tank that would have been in the same class as the proposed German Ratte Tank, and was armed with a pair of 304 mm naval guns. Again, thanks for this fascinating size-comparison video!
