  • This is the essence of the sport, it’s both team and technique oriented. Also, in TTT ‘s we see every single rider using the bike as it is intended to be used, flat out! As opposed to the awkward sight of so many riders way out of GC contention in grand tours riding the TT on a super hopped up TT bike as a recovery day so they can race well or help protect their GC rider in the following stages. So yeah bring back the TTT and keep it.

    • Problem is benefits the big rich teams

      @LarsRyeJeppesen@LarsRyeJeppesen Жыл бұрын
    • TTT's have a huge problem in that they introduce big time gaps between teams and these gaps are often insurmountable for any GC contenders in the teams that are behind and so the GC hopes of that team are over from just one stage. This was a short TTT and still resulted in gaps over over a minute for some teams like EF and 40+sec for Bora so their GC hopes are already severely damaged. In longer TTT's as have been used in the past (40-60km) the time gaps ended up being 4-5 minutes. So hypothetically if it had been a 40km TTT and Bora had ended up 4 min behind TJV then Jai Hindley might as well go home. Yes they are great to watch but IMO are not what a GT is all about.

    • I love TTTs as well and love them to be the opener of a GT. Dont make them too long else the differences will be too big, but its such a beautiful discipline.

    • @@epincion but that’s cycling. TTT is not just about being rich, sure, you can afford more specialists but there is so much to be gained with proper strategy, training and getting the details right. Also, the simple thing of being a unit rather than just a bunch of cyclists makes a big difference. While I understand the concern, cycling is a team sport and TTT is no different to having multiple mountain specialists in a mountain stage.

      @riquelmeone@riquelmeone Жыл бұрын
    • @@riquelmeone Disagree. The typical GT is a mix of flat/hilly sprint stages and mountain stages (used to be at 8-10 out of the 21 flat/hilly stages but increasingly nowadays only 4-5 'sprint stages'), so if you are a WT team that is aiming at winning the GC or even just getting a top 5 finish then you need to have team built on a core of climbers. The GC contender himself needs to be an excellent climber, a good sprinter and a good ITT rider. But If you have a TTT in a GT then it will be just one stage, and (especially if a longer distance ) it will result in a big spread of times between teams and the smaller less well funded teams who have with a potential top 5 even only a top 10 GC rider on their roster but who cannot afford the best riders, best equipment, best training camps and lots of wind tunnel use will find there GC rider is now several minutes behind. We saw this in action yesterday - where a number of teams with a GC contender ended up over 1 minute back from the top three and IMO will never claw that time back over the rest of the race.

  • It has to be hell being behind Remco in a TTT. Huge motor and almost no draft (Julian A). Having coached TTTs and team pursuit, it’s really hard to plan for a technical course. Lots of strategy here, not the least of which is how to save your GC legs. Wish the TTT was still in the Olympics.

At Suisse apparently there was a heat management mistake with him riding in an aero helmet without ventilation and likely also not enough ice. If you get taken out by the heat, you'll need some days to recover from that. It doesn't make sense for him to break like that in Suisse, after only 4 days on a profile that should suite him at least decently. The explanation given by the team here makes sense in that aspect. Since then he has been training more in the heat and QST have improved their heat management for the remainder of the season. Since he started preparing for the Vuelta (after the ardenne classics) he did 2 superb climbing performances and this Suisse debacle, where he imo wasn't even in the best shape at the very start either.

Plus everyone is at their limit, so with the finish being somewhat technical and Remco being so aero that he provides almost zero draft it's really no surprise he dropped his teammates at the end. In other words, not his fault.

      @cjitaya@cjitaya Жыл бұрын
    • I disagree - IMO the reason he went to the front near the end and pulled hard was that he was trying to speed up his team as he knew that they were very close to the time of Ineos. In the end QS was just 1 sec behind. Had QS beaten Ineos Remco would have been in the Maillot Blanc and not Hayter. Unfortunately his small size and position on the bike is so good that he does not draft the rider behind and the team lost his wheel. It was a very reasonable action on his side.

    • @@briangoossens1519 that is exactly what i mean, 1 day races... Vuelta has 3 weeks and some of those mountain stages are just brutal this year. i see Remco goin for 3-4 stage wins, but no chance in hell for GC...

      @filipt.585@filipt.585 Жыл бұрын
    • @@filipt.585 we will have to see as he's never done a grand tour with a decent preparation. He's definitely made some mistakes in the Tirreno and Tour of Suisse which gives the perception he can't handle 3 weeks or steep climbs, but then he was excellent in Basque country. Personally I think he is more of TT/one day specialist but he's still young and I've seen worse climbers than him win grand tours! I think the main thing is he needs to mature and spare his energy if he wants to be a GC winner.

  • oke we know now who will win the vuelta, the man who beats remco will win the vuelta ... Remco is the most talented belgium tour rider in 55 years afther eddy merckx , and Wout is the best 1 day racer of the world ... However I think wout could ride a top 10 place in a big tour. Without Wout vingegard PROBABLY wouldend have won the tour the france . Wout had to bring him several times back to the front of the race. So Jumbo visma kiss youre 2 hands you have Wout in youre team !!!!!!!!!
