  • UAE really brought in Marc Soler and asked him to teach them every trick in the Movistar dysfunction book for this race. Hopefully got all these issues out the way for the Giro as it is a really high level team that doesn't need to be defined by just Pog.

    • Why UAE would ever want to sign "I ride for my own damn self"-Soler is beyond me. No way he was done today, he simply couldnt be bothered to ride for the team anymore. You have to be a top10 rider to be able to pull of behaviour like that.

    • @@sean7098 well but how could it be that ancient old Rui Costa holds out longer then Soler, after Soler showed a few attakcs and signs of form in the earlier stages? I absolutely agree that Soler is a bad signing, and his unwillingness to cooperate will show the younger guys like Ayuso in the team that you can get away with selfishness at UAE.

  • Wild race and I love seeing some of the less-common scenarios in the cycling playbook come together on a stage like this. Only in road cycling do you get this combination of a varied course and weather, riders of different specialties factoring into tactics, differing goals and finish lines for different riders... it's a great cocktail when it works out like this.

  • I said it after the last Paris-Nice stage, I'll say it again now: We want those kinds of middle-mountain stages in the last week of the Tour de France! Put the predictable and controllable TTs and high-altitude mountain top finishes in the first two weeks, and then middle mountain up and down all the way to Paris for maximum unpredictability and the actual chance to gain back time on riders that are intrinsically stronger than you. Yes the teams are better and (mostly) more organized at the Tour than at Paris-Nice or Catalunya but at least the organizers should try and shake up the formula

    • That's a good proposal

    • I would also like that but the the thing is though: the Tour is ridden way differently. Everyone is on their A-game and the stakes are the highest. A scenario like today would be less likely to happen because several teams not represented would chase a lot harder than what happened today.

  • I watched a 16 year old Greg LeMond launch off the front on an early lap around Laguna Seca Road Racing course in CA and ride alone off the front in the 128 mile road race as the 18-34 Cat 1 adult men racers tried to catch up. Each time the pack got within 1/4 mile Greg would go into his classic rhythm and ride away increasing the lead. We also watched him finish 2 1/2 laps ahead of 2nd place in an 80 mile Criterium race at Pacific Grove that season. It was apparent back then he was a phenomenal bike racer...

  • Who would be the most powerful 2 man RAID team in the tour? POG and McNuts or ROG and WOUT??

    @jamesd5241@jamesd52412 жыл бұрын
    • Close, but I'd say Rog and Wout. In a raid stage (medium mountains I assume?), Wouts engine is imo possibly as good as Pog's, maybe slightly worse uphill, but Rog should be better than McNuts (at least that was the case in PN), and in the end the slower one is going to be defining. There is no use is Pog riding McNuts of his wheel on the climbs and I don't see McNulty climbing faster than Rog or Wout, even if he's constantly in the wheel on the climb.
