  • Television coverage for this years Vuelta was a major disappointment. I don't know who decided to put the pre-race interview area behind the introduction podium but it was moronic. Too much background babble from the PA announcer to hear most of the questions or answers. The images selected by the director consistently were selected at the worst time. It's been a long 3 weeks.

  • Congratulations to Remco. Certainly his GC win warrants QS taking a full GC team to the TDF 2023 and not a sprinter team as they usually do. Remco deserves the chance at going up against a full strength TJV led byJonas and a UAE led by Tadej. Sergio Hiquita was played like a violin by Carapaz at the end - 'shamed' into pulling and then left behind.

    @epincion@epincion Жыл бұрын
    • I think taking a sprinter is a better idea actually. For one, they don't really have a full gc team, and it might also put too much pressure. Let him go for the experience the first time. With absolutely no pressure. And just make sure others are in the lead.

  • So many commentors that didn't watch the stage are hating on Carapaz, which is beyond me. Higuita didn't pull because of Meintjes, or so he stated, to not have to pull. No matter if it was team loyalty or clever use of the GC standings, I commend Higuita for how he rode. When Meintjes got dropped, Carapaz demanded cooperation, as he should. He had pulled for Higuita for a long time, and then they shared, to give the 2 of them the greatest chance of winning. Neither of them knew who was the stronger of the two, and neither knew how hard the GC group would go. So, Carapaz got annoyed becuase, in Carapaz' mind, Higuita didn't race for his own chances if he didn't pull. When Higuita realized this, probably with support from his team car, he started pulling. Now, Carapaz should have given Higuita 20 seconds on his wheel before demanding a pull. If you want to hate on him for those 20 seconds, go ahead.

He's very smart and work hard when it suit his chances to win: that's why you should always be careful with him. There are many situation that almost make me laugh in requesting collaboration. 2 examples 1) stage 19 Mas attacks, sees Remco on his wheel and immediately ask him to pull. But Remco has nothing to gain for being alone with MAS and work with 10 second or less on the GC group. Create a good gap and then ask for collaboration. 2) Roubaix 2020 (Corbelli win). VDP reaches the leader group, immediately tryes to leave them behind and when he sees it won't work asks for collaboration. Never ever you will obtain it in that momente because my first tought would be that you will let me and the others pull their turn and then attack again. 1st you should pull "regular" to show you want to go togheter then you will get collaboration.

  • The young riders really surprised us this Vuelta. Evenepoel was 3rd on my podium before the start, behind Roglic and Mas, but he won. I didn't dare put Ayuso in the top 10, because the team would go for Almeida, just like Rodriguez, Sivakov and Hart because Carapaz was the leader in the standings. Maybe a little chanc for Sivakov. Sivakov got corona, Hart unfortunately had a bad day (glad to see that he showed that the Giro win was no coincidence). Ayuso is 19 and on the podium of the Vuelta. Rodriguez is 21 and finishes 7th (maybe 6th). Evenepoel is 22 and wins. Bernal, Pogacar and Vingegaard were and are also very young, but we have not often seen as young as in this Vuelta. This is also the youngest podium in an eternity.

My boy is tired, if the plan is to win w/ ayuso, the ayuso should take the first 2k with load so almeida can rest and then lead him to the sprint since almeida is not a too bad of a sprinter himself. Most of them simply fueled by his youth career at the most prestigious but hated soccer team and simply the poor mentality of Belgian villagers. That’s what caused the outpouring of emotions upon arrival. It’s great to see a 22 years old returning at his junior level of dominance. He erased all the sequels of his brutal crash in Italy. It will be nice to see him at the Giro 2023 and TDF in 2024. I doubt he will focus on any of the Flemish classics yet.

Even Felice Gimondi tried to block the DQ by refusing to wear the Jersey. The 1973 was for an inoffensive cough syrup which was later removed from the WADA illegal substances. Eddy Merckx remains the undisputed GOAT of the sport. The discrimination he suffered at the start of his career were not influenced by those allegations but by the brutal competition among older and newer stars. As far as the WC, the tactic by Belgium was a joke that won’t be repeated this year as Remco is allowed to race and has support. WVA had an off day last year and would not admit it. A smart rider knows when they need to pull for 2 minutes. That is all it would have taken, 2 a 2 minute well timed effort. Ayuso had a chance to win the stage and make an error. If he continues to prepare for future GT and one-week stages races like he did for this tour, look out. But, he needs to get stronger on the steep, long finishes - maybe teammates can help there.

Overall I felt Remco was almost always well in control ignoring that one stage and I don't think a harder third week would have changed things.

There are many reasons why he has the success he has had. Too many to list here. He, like Bernal have benefited from circumstance and NOT ability…the media and carapaz himself happen to believe this “hype” but knowledgable cycling viewers recognize a opportunist when they see one. Any “good” rider can breakaway and win stages when they are ignored by the peloton when they are behind by 27 minutes. A true champion would be fighting for the GC or helping rodriguez who was the better rider than carapaz and would have done much better if rc would have helped him instead of selfishly going for his own glory. NOT a good teammate which is why movistar, ineos let him go and he finds himself on a soon to be relegated team one of whom he has already pissed off…he is a wheelsucker who never pulls…

Indeed, Roglic was 2nd in GC at the time of the crash and would be in that position in Madrid as well. Evenepoel recovered as the pain subsided and probably wouldn't lose the red jersey, but with Roglic there it would have been a lot more exciting than now, with Mas knowing he couldn't drop a pain-free Evenepoel. • In the end he finally got the legs he wanted. He could have won today and if he did, this would be seen as a good Vuelta from him.
