The US Open is the final Grand Slam of the year and takes place at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. The 2021 US Open saw Russia's Daniil Medvedev and Great Britain's Emma Raducanu claim the men's and women's singles titles. It was both players' first major title, with 18-year-old Raducanu becoming the first-ever qualifier to achieve the feat. The 2022 US Open main draw is scheduled to go ahead between August 30 - September 11.

  • Raducanu is unbeatable on fast hard courts when she plays like this. She'll win a stack of US Opens and some Australian Opens and Wimbledons of course. She'll have to develop her game to have a chance in the French Open though, as it's not currently suited to slow courts, as was shown at Indian Wells.

  • The TV comentator started out pushing the notion that the number 50 ranked Sorribes Tormo was very tough and had an arsenal of tennis weapons that was going to crush this qualifier Raducanu. Throughout the match it became evident that that perspective of hers was a fixation. She couldn't wake up and realize that Raducanu is a truly great player. Instead, sticking to her narrow perspective, she spoke of Raducanu as a qualifier who was playing risky tennis and getting away with it. To me, that puts the commentator at the bottom in terms of competence, the worst I can remember seeing in a Grand Slam. Truly out of her league. Commentators should enhance the experience of watching a match, not depreciate it. I didn't appreciate Sorribes Tormo's guttural growling grunts. Haven't heard anything to match it since Max Mirnyi.

  • Emma’s tennis path/trajectory has been the opposite of most players’. She reached the top after a very short time on the tour. Others worked their way year in year out to build up to that path to the top which is winning a slam. Now, Emma has to really put in the time to get more matches in the tour under her belt. I hope her unique trajectory will enhance her mental and emotional strength as a tennis player. I am so excited to see her play more matches and gain more experience and confidence in playing on different surfaces and conditions and against different types of players on tour.

    • Yes. She's very new to the whole WTA grind. She's had like 8 weeks in total at it so far. It's remarkable she's done so well in 2 Grand Slams at such a young age with such little experience. There will be ups and downs as she learns, and there will be doubters and childlike haters declaring 'I told you so!' when she loses a match, as there are already, but she'll do fine.

  • These fans had no idea they were witnessing Raducanu on the precipice of a run for the history books. They're lucky to see Raducanu at her best. Oh, if they could only get an autographed tennis ball... Raducanu in this match was playing very "loose" -- like she had nothing to lose. Her swing was relaxed but firm. She was relentless at her attack game (hit the ball early and move up front). She was not afraid to attack the first serve or go for the lines. No matter what anyone says, her coach in the background was a key part of her success. It might have been best for her to keep him a little longer.
