The US Open is the final Grand Slam of the year and takes place at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. The 2021 US Open saw Russia's Daniil Medvedev and Great Britain's Emma Raducanu claim the men's and women's singles titles. It was both players' first major title, with 18-year-old Raducanu becoming the first-ever qualifier to achieve the feat. The 2022 US Open main draw is scheduled to go ahead between August 30 - September 11.

  • The only other time I remember being this blown away is during Roger's 2004 Wimbledon title run. Back then, it was evident that there was absolutely no one in his class and that he was chasing perfection in his game. Though he won no.3 then, I saw 16 at least. Emma's dominant performance through the US open is filling me with the same kind of excitement and I'm only hoping that she stays determined in chasing big dreams, cause she certainly has the game that can win them all.

    • Yes. She's been remarkable. Does an ITF mid-June and gets to the QF Gets a wild card to Wimbledon in early July, her 1st major, getting to the 4th round Does some lower level tournaments in August, getting to a QF and a final Enters the USO in early September as a qualifier, her 2nd Major, and wins it. Her only hope in doing all these tournaments was to get a qualifier slot at the Australian Open. Now she will be seeded. And extraordinary 3 months for her.

    • I was thinking the same thing, I've been watching all her matches and every time her opponents increased the pressure on her, she would just go through a level up and pressure her opponents even more. She seems to increase her intensity instead of getting fatigued as the match goes on.

  • It's weird how calm I was watching this live. It didn't matter if Emma won it or not -- she'd already achieved something special -- and then it so quickly became clear that she was going to win anyway! Maria Sakkari did amazingly well to fight hard in the second set, but one Emma settled from those first few points it was only going to go one way. Just a supremely dominant display. It was crazy.

I would like some more impartial comments, not all about how Sakari can improve her game and making less error when it's obvious that Emma is a far superior player putting pressure on her opponent. Some of Emma's return of serves are outstanding. This match is better watched with audio off!

    • Sakkari’s worst and most painful defeat thus far was at the 2021 RG semis against Krejcikova. She was serving for the game and literally lost two games in a row and couldn’t close the match that would have brought her to the final against Pavlynchenkova who was a much easier opponent. So far this was her best chance at winning a slam. Apparently she couldn’t sleep for 3 nights after that loss.

  • This match was over by the end of game 4, first set. Any confidence Sakkari had died at the end of the 3rd and hope died at the end of the 4th. Oh she can say that she didn't play well etc but when your opponent stops you from being able to settle, to find your stride, to make your best shots, well you're never going to play well are you? Raducanu adapted her game to match the power of Sakkari and Sakkari had nothing else to offer. The right person won, any excuses from the other side is childish pique at being outplayed.

  • 58:10 You should've gone for the tweener there, Emma. That would really have been the icing on the cake!

    @johndevadas1933@johndevadas19332 жыл бұрын
    • That would've been ultra difficult just about impossible seeing that she was sprinting and barely got to the ball at all.

  • Raducanu is simply stunning. Perfect face and legs. By far the most beautiful woman in tennis. And she plays pretty well, too.

  • What a circus at 22:30! Sakkari knew perfectly well the ball was in or she would have called a challenge, which she did not.

    @invisipics@invisipics2 жыл бұрын
    • Whether she called a challenge or not wouldn't have made a difference because the calls are made by Hawkeye. If it's in, it's in. The only thing they can show her is a video review of where the ball landed, the call wouldn't have changed.

  • In her entire life Emma has never played an opponent in the top 10 and has only ever played two opponents in the top 40. Yet she has just moved up into the top 20 and in so doing has nudged ahead of Coco Gauff to become the highest ranked teenager! (She is at 20 in the live WTA ranking, 3 points ahead of Coco.)
