  • I watched this clip again and couldn’t believe how well Emma read Sakari’s serves. She moved to the direction right after Sakari tossed the ball and returned them beautifully. Her court awareness is unbelievable. No wonder she won.

Tom gets his break when Bledsoe was taken out, gets the Pats to the playoffs, then wins his 1st SB in his 2nd season Emma only gets into her first GS at Wimbledon via a wild card, gets to the 4th round, then enters her 2nd GS at the US Open and wins. It’s Emma’s ability to continue to apply pressure at the right times. It’s the ability to return every serve regardless whether it’s first or second, and with interest. Her mental strength to forget the point she’s played and focus on the next one. She did that to everyone she played, dismantled Rogers who’d just beaten Ash Barty, dismantled Bencic Olympic champ, ripped apart Sakkari most in-form player this year & then dominates the final against someone who beat Kerber & Osaka. It is absolutely extraordinary what she achieved and I don’t think you can say that Sakkari’s poor performance was the reason she lost, just like with all the others she beat.
