  • This may never happen again. A qualifier winning a major without losing a set? That's just insane if you think about it.

    • Let'ss be honest, she shouldn't have been a Q. Covid kept her off courts and then she storms to 4th round in Wimbledon before she retired. Almost could argue having that extra week to beat up on weak opponents helps you find your groove and avoid that dreaded 1st/2nd round upset because you aren't used to the courts etc.

      @willzsportscards@willzsportscards2 жыл бұрын
    • @@willzsportscards Sure, you could argue that. I think the vast majority of players, coaches and commentators would argue those extra matches are more likely to cause fatigue and/or injury, plus the math that NOBODY has ever done it before. So I'm going with no, you are wrong. But you are correct that she is likely one of the most talented qualifiers ever.

    • @@Marvin-dg8vj yeah I recently found out that it's not even the first time she's won a tournament as qualifier lol (some 25k event in 2019 when she'd just turned 17, won 7 matches in a row)...and you know what? I'm still convinced that with better mental preparation that she would've easily beat Tomljanovic in straight sets, because you could see that she was hella nervous from the start yet it was still a pretty even match, everything was just too much too fast for her so it's understandable, but frankly she had the surprise factor to beat anyone, maybe even the world #1 Barty (who ended up winning it) who would've been next, Emma might've pulled it off with home support tax, Shelby Rodgers did...it's crazy to say but I'm not joking, she could seriously have been the first female wildcard ever to win Wimbledon... like you said she'd been doing bits for years at junior level, and was a standout in the 2020 UK Pro League (which she won, because of course she did lol) and the Battle of the Brits but she was still kinda under the radar it seems, cause i'm pretty sure that even some of the other players at Wimbledon didn't know who she was lol her opponents were clearly not ready for her...it's too bad cause I don't see another female Brit Wimbledon wildcard ever being as good as her so no one's breaking that record now lol... but oh well she made unprecedented history anyway at the US Open which no one's ever gonna match so whatever hahaha
