I had a coworker that was kinda anti-gun and I showed them an AR-15 and asked if it should be illegal, they said “100 percent, nobody needs a military rifle”. I said ok, fair and showed them a wood frame mini-14 and asked the same question, they said “well no, that’s a hunting rifle”…that was the day I truly realized there are too many people highly opinionated on something they know nothing about. I explained to them both guns were the same caliber, same capacity, same rate of fire…they were speechless

There's a guy running for congress in Texas name Brandon Herrera who actually knows everything about guns, and will hopefully be an educating force for the other ignorant lawmakers. He's a gunsmith who has his own firearms manufacturing company, and he's a gun youtuber, and probably a lot more. Would be really interesting to watch a conversation with him.

Had someone over my place and they were talking shit on my firearms saying there was no need to have them. After the mostly peaceful protests kicked off they called and asked to borrow one. I told them that was illegal for me to do and they need to go get their own.
Imagine if a person who has never driven a car was tasked to make car laws. They might come up with solutions that seem like good ideas, but actually aren't. For instance, they might make it the law for every car to be red, for high visibility. They might decide to reduce the size of the gas pedal to keep people from speeding. They might make gas tanks smaller to discourage you from driving on long trips to save the environment. However, all of these laws would do nothing but inconvenience the person driving the car. That's basically what California gun laws are like.

I no longer believe that any “gun laws” are reasonable or relevant. As Uncle Ted stated back in the day, “you give them nothing”, no compromise on gun laws. When the establishment submits a bill for a gun control measure, the anti-establishment should readily submit five that require repeal of bills already passed. Period. No NFA, no GCA, no excuses or exceptions!

New gun laws are probably pretty useless because there are so many guns out in the population that anyone with nefarious intentions can get their weapons of choice on the second hand market, even if new purchases from shops are more heavily regulated and legal ownership is restricted. No problem to own illegally.
100%. Think about the semi auto barret 50 cal has been publicly available for 35+ years. Never heard of a crime being committed with one. Could be wrong but never heard of it. The purpose is to control law abiding citizens.

yea i think that quote was H&K's like brand slogan some years back... and honestly... I can't fault them for it since they make almsot every legendary firearm that has existed. MP5, MP7, 416, 417, G3, G36, MK23/USP etc all their variants. It's pretty crazy when you realize the full scope of their influence on the industry, militaries, and the fact that all those weapons are known for supreme reliability.

@@mpclepto182 well... i won't disagree with you there, but the reason for that is HK is primarily a military contractor first and they've always been known to sell to militaries at a "higher" price, even in bulk, so they can't just sell to civilian markets suddenly at a lower price, otherwise the militaries (who have all the money in the world, so they are ok with paying any price) will get suspicious if they charge civilians less than what they charge them. But i mean, they do make top quality stuff, and while clones exist, you won't get all those legendary German designs, in their original form, without paying extra for it, so their business model makes sense. It just sucks for us poor consumers. HK knows their clientele are the more "wealth inclined" individuals anyways lol.

Now, I could make an argument that HK's "higher quality" doesn't actually matter enough to justify the price but I believe that would be purely subjective as I don't have enough information to make a case. Agree with everything you said. If you're willing to compromise your wallet, then HK won't make you compromise after....and when you're life's on the line, I'm sure you aren't thinking about retirement!

Exactly. "Compromise" is just a tool to take power away from the people. Things only move in one direction when you compromise on your freedoms. The phrase itself is nonsensical, anyways, as compromising on freedom is not a coherent idea. You can never gain it and lose it at the same time. You can only either gain it OR lose it. If you have a cake, and you "compromise" by giving up 10% of it, that's not a compromise. You're just giving away your cake. And you can be 100% sure that the person will be back for more cake, asking "why won't you compromise?". Then you lose 10% more of your cake, and so on until you have no cake left. That's our freedom, and our humanity.

The dumbest rule is how in my state you can only have 10 bullets in a mag… the regular people get punished for following the rules meanwhile the bad guy doing whatever he wants is running with 17-30 rounds 😂

In Regard to Compromise? How does someone meet in the middle with person who is willfully ignorant or doesn't care? You can't and don't.. Some people subscribe to complete control and submit to endless negotiation of rules. And that is why California has so many rules.
Just my $0.02... when anyone feels they're "right" or justified, they don't compromise. At least, not with anyone they think is wrong. Just look at how many gun enthusiasts comments there are everywhere, stating that virtually any gun law is stupid because "the bad guys will just...". By that logic, any law is stupid because people will break them, so why have laws at all? Most rules are an attempt to setup moralistic guidelines with consequences for those who don't adhere. Stupid? A lot of times. Alternatives? Go to Haiti and see. A rule I've always held; if I cannot listen to someone else's argument, and paraphrase it back to them in a way in which they agree, then I don't understand what they're trying to say, and there can be no way to engage in constructive discourse. I personally think a lot of the gun laws are stupid. However, I also think it's stupid that we have a huge culture of guys who want to be "tactical", yet never nutted up and actually served in the military. I personally think graduated licensing should happen in many aspects of our country. Cars, motorcycle sizes, firearms. I think an 18 year old with unrestricted access to any type of firearm they want is just as irresponsible as an 18 year old with a dodge Hellcat or a 1000cc motorcycle. You want it? Go get more training, advanced driving school, advanced weapons training. License for it. I also see that every other country with a large population of gun use with close to zero civilian issues has mandatory military service also. I believe there's a huge correlation there. That's just my idea. But most of the people commenting here would lose their mind's accusing me of being anti-gun. I'm not anti gun. I am anti retard. So yes, a lot of rules are stupid. It was stupid that I returned home from my first deployment to the Persian Gulf and I still couldn't get into a bar and have a beer (I was 19). But I do think there could be substantial progress made in terms of finding rules that aren't stupid, but when the only argument from gun enthusiasts is "NO RULES", that only leaves the ignorant politicians to write stupid rules. Those rules do nothing but make other ignorant non-gun citizens feel a false sense of security. So, who's the one's not compromising? Everyone directly involved in the discussion. So there will be no forward progress. I've been to the capitol to discuss and comment on proposed legislation. Every citizen can actually get involved. It just helps if they have reasonable alternatives and actually address the opposing side's concerns empathetically. And for the record... the vast majority of where I live in California has CCW. It's rarely even discussed except for the wackadoodles that moved here to live their dreams of being "tactical" (yet still, never actually nutted up and served). You know... like those asshats firing off full auto weapons, starting the Caldor fire and almost burning down my neighborhood.

The topic of compromise and gun laws is an interesting comparison lol. 0 compromise when it comes to your personal safety and protection and many, or all, gun laws force un-consensual compromise. Unfortunately many legislators speak to topics they do not have knowledge of, i.e. pistol grips are “bad” and place feeling over reasoning and understanding of the topic.
I attended a pistol club in Australia recently hoping to start the license process. I was talking to the range owner about ammo. "Most of us prefer to reload to save money. When we can get pistol powder, anyway." "Why can't you get pistol powder?" "Do you want the nice answer or the conspiracy answer?" "Conspiracy answer" "The government pushes firearms imports aside at its discretion to starve shooters of resources". No shit. Hold onto your guns, America. It never should have gotten this bad.

What can you do? Support these organizations with whatever time and money you feel comfortable investing, and practice civil disobedience. I was with you up till you got to the "compromise" part while talking about guns. Not sure if that was just a separate tangent or not. But, the gun owning public has done nothing but compromise for decades in this country. Its time the otherside of the gun debate understand we have given them an inch and they have taken a mile. The good will is gone and they need to compromise.
Gun owner speak loud, but as a gun owner myself, I am embarrassed we have not done more to protect law abiding citizens. I am thinking specifically of those law abiding citizens who were abandoned by poiticians and the defund the police movement in cities like Seattle or Atlanta or Baltimore, or ..... Gun owners were on social media yelling loud about lawlessness ,but for the most part sat by and let law abiding citizen's have their livelihoods --- and sometimes their lives stripped away.
Compromise is how our constitution has been subverted. Some things you have to hold the line on otherwise you end up with domestic terrorist organizations like the ATF being funded by the people.
Some things are too precious to compromise, and this right is one of them. It’s a very short amendment.

Our laws are broken. You can be charged for child support to a child you never helped create, by a woman you never met. Theres too many stories of guys getting exonerated after wasting years in prison for a crime they did not commit. A veteran can come home after using 240b's and saw's overseas only to be told he/she cannot legally carry state side. We need help as a country. Its time to evaluate what we really care about if our law makers care about anything at all besides lining their pockets with money from lobby groups. ❤🇺🇸

It used to be every boy learned how to take care of a gun, shoot a gun, clean a gun, gun safety, everything. They were expected to know how to handle these machines. Once you’ve handled a gun and shot and cleaned and learned about gun safety, you realize how benign they are until they’re in the wrong hands. They’re just tools really. Boys used to be taught how to use tools also. Nobody is taught these things en mass anymore.

Seeing the complete lack of basic wikipedia gun knowledge by politicians shattered my faith in their ability to make good laws on anything else.
You really hit the nail on the head by looking at it through the lens of compromise. The laws are seen as demands and orders. This discussion did a great job of digging deeper into the topic; beyond if the laws are justified or not. I believe, by looking at it through that lens, you expose the lack of leadership and how that is causing these laws in your state to be so outrageous. The elected leadership is not taking ownership of their responsibilities and actions which leads to illogical rules based on selfishness. Great talk.

Oh man, my dad used to have an H&K coffee mug with the H&K logo and the text "In a world of compromise, some don't" and that was the coolest coffee mug I ever saw. Even back as a kid I thought it was bad ass that this real estate agent just had that mug on his desk at work. It was a great catchphrase anyway. Compromise doesn't have to be an option.

If I get a citation for not having a muffler on my car I sure as hell should get a citation for not having a suppressor on a gun. In some European countries they are even required. With Europe being so densely populated police respond quicker but a 2A is still something we could use. We even have better mental health care so that reduces a lot of gun violence as well.
Europe is not densely populated. No doubt they have major cities. But, beyond that they are no more crowded then U.S. The effects from WW2 are still felt their. Look at the population charts.
Just on my initial reaction to the title. I completely agree. Now try to have an FFL and get audited twice a year so that some suit who knows nothing about firearms can snoop around your business all day like you're on probation.

Which is precisely why the Bruen decision explicitly states, that all firearm laws must be in line with firearms laws of the time of the ratification of the second amendment, 1791, and that text, history, and tradition is the test. If ANY firearms law doesn't fall in line with the laws that were valid during the ratification in 1791, it is therefore UNCONSTITUTIONAL. These are the only rights you as a civilian in this country gets. I wouldn't be so open to giving them up.

I was in the military I call it a clip because it has more in common with a clip than the weapons magazines on a Navy ship but hey that's just me. For example you wouldn't store torpedo's in a "clip" but you would in a magazine.
Great conversation that highlights a legislative problem. Trying to craft legislation to solve a problem when there's a lack of understanding or information fundamentally won't solve the problem.
If you swear an oath to the constitution and then make the claim that there are good gun laws makes you a violate of your oath.
Here's the thing though, compromise is fine if the two options are equal, but very often they are not. Often, one person is just dead wrong, and compromising on something that is wrong just continues the wrongness. Not everything is relative. Evil exists, and it should not be allowed to live.
Not when it comes to our rights. No compromise. We are done losing rights for the illusion of safety.

Magazine reducers that can be removed are not legal , at least not in Colorado. i got a sig 365 x macro 17rd mag, had to buy new 15rd mag , sheriff told me reducers were not legal if removable.

There are 5 generations of Glock pistol as of 2024. Most only have slight changes to keep their trademarks intact In California only police can own the generation 4&5 glock pistol. They are legally deemed too danger for civilians to own. The 4&5th Gen have more safety features than the older models

Law makers can never know more about guns than manufacturers. There’s always something they can do to bypass laws. Unless you ban all firearms. Even then air rifles have come a long way.

We have a lot of crazy laws that inhibit us bikers as well, many of which don't make any sense. I think a handful of these lawmakers have good intentions but zero experience, some have mixed intentions and experience, and some are just pandering to who they think fills their pockets with more loot. I'm here just trying to teach my children well. Keep up the good work Jocko & team.
