Dr Jordan B Peterson, Jonathan Pageau, and Mohammed Hijab discuss comparative religion, what is said about Islam versus what Islam has to say, and how the uncomfortable conversation - whether contentious or unnerving, is well worth having.
Mohammed Hijab is an author, comparative religionist, and philosopher of scripture. He is the co-founder of the Sapience Institute and is a researcher and instructor for the organization. He has a BA in Politics and a master’s degree in History. He has also acquired a second master’s in Islamic Studies from the School of Oriental and African Studies, as well as a third master’s degree in Applied Theology from the University of Oxford. Currently, he is working toward his PhD in Philosophy of Religion. Having completed Islamic seminary courses, he is one of very few Muslims who has been given formal permission to relay Islamic knowledge on selected Islamic fields, dealing with comparative, political, and theological issues. In his efforts, he has amassed a substantial following on KZhead, aided in part by authoring books such as “The Scientific Deception of the New Atheists.”
Jonathan Pageau is a French-Canadian liturgical artist and icon carver, known for his work featured in museums across the world. He carves Eastern Orthodox and other traditional images and teaches an online carving class. He also runs a KZhead channel dedicated to the exploration of symbolism across history and religion.
Dr Peterson's extensive catalog is available now on DailyWire+: utm.io/ueSXh

  • Constantly the muslim man is trying to convert Peterson whilst Jordan just wants an open conversation. Sooo much missunderstanding about the fig tree and Jesus. Oh how wonderful my Saviour is!!!

    @janelouisebriggs2999@janelouisebriggs29992 ай бұрын
    • There is a very reasonable explanation why Jesus cursed the fig tree even though it wasn’t the season for figs. Even before the season, fig trees produce little knobs which are eaten by a passerby. As the late renowned NT scholar F.F. Bruce noted: "The other miracle is the cursing of the barren fig tree (Mk. xi 12 ff.), a stumbling block to many. They feel that it is unlike Jesus, and so someone must have misunderstood what actually happened, or turned a spoken parable into an acted miracle, or something like that. Some, on the other hand, welcome the story because it shows that Jesus was human enough to get unreasonably annoyed on occasion. It appears, however, that a closer acquaintance with fig trees would have prevented such misunderstandings. ‘The time of the fig is not yet,’ says Mark, for it was just before Passover, about six weeks before the fully-formed fig appears. The fact that Mark adds these words shows that he knew what he was talking about. When the fig leaves appear about the end of March, they are accompanied by a crop of small knobs, called taqsh by the Arabs, a sort of fore-runner of the real figs. These taqsh are eaten by peasants and others when hungry. They drop off before the real fig is formed. But if the leaves appear unaccompanied by taqsh, there will be no figs that year. So it was evident to our Lord, when He turned aside to see if there were any of these taqsh on the fig-tree to assuage His hunger for the time being, that the absence of the taqsh meant that there would be no figs when the time of figs came. For all its fair foliage, it was a fruitless and a hopeless tree." (Bruce, Are The New Testament Documents Reliable? [Intervarsity Press; Downers Grove, Ill, fifth revised edition 1992], pp. 73-74; bold emphasis ours). Many people have already addressed the fig tree talking point of Muslims trying to refute Christians. Many have done this for hijab and his mates. He seemingly ignores it.

I’m a Christian in training, wasn’t raised as a Christian, didn’t go to church, didn’t know God, just started about 4 years ago. I listen to all view points. Because of my experience 4 years ago with God and things God has shown me these last few years I know Jesus is not only my savior but God. I live by 3 rules (and probably don’t do them well). First I love God first, All other humans second, and I try to apply the Fruit of the Spirit to every conversation and everything I do. Communication is extremely important whether we agree or disagree, otherwise we have issues, communication is not trying to better someone or change someone THAT IS God’s plan and job. • Watching Muhammed move when jordan moves shows his intense scrutiny of him. This was a more prevelent example of how intensly he was paying attention but it can often times be much less obvious. Another thing i noticed was the amount of vocalized agreements he had during the times when jordan would speak, "uh-huh, yeah, hmm," is an obvious display of his annoyance and his unwillingness to "listen to understand, and not listen to respond" Why is this happening and what does it mean? It means muhammed is being confrontational and is unwilling to learn. I saw some comments here who noticed this and indeed, muhamed came here to convince jordan he was right, not to have an actual conversation.

I've always had questions about faith and religion and how it correlates to mine or how it doesn't but here's where I'm stumped: In our Christian faith we are taught to honor our Mother & Father & so therefore in a lot of Christian households, we are taught about the Bible. So how can we look at other religions as being "wrong" whenever they likely had a similar way of adopting religion (through family)? I have met so many wonderful people from all different religions & it's incredibly hard to condemn someone for their religious beliefs because we can't even collectively define religion itself. Just to reiterate, I believe the Gospel but I would like someone from the Christian faith to explain to me how someone who was born Muslim and died Muslim who never knew Jesus will not be entering the Kingdom of Heaven??? Any thoughts on this would be welcomed.

    • Allah Glory to him said:”Those who say, “Allah is the Messiah, son of Mary,” have certainly fallen into disbelief. The Messiah ˹himself˺ said, “O Children of Israel! Worship Allah-my Lord and your Lord.” Whoever associates others with Allah ˹in worship˺ will surely be forbidden Paradise by Allah. Their home will be the Fire. And the wrongdoers will have no helpers.-72-Those who say, “Allah is one in a Trinity,” have certainly fallen into disbelief. There is only One God. If they do not stop saying this, those who disbelieve among them will be afflicted with a painful punishment.-73-Will they not turn to Allah in repentance and seek His forgiveness? And Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.-74- The Messiah, son of Mary, was no more than a messenger. ˹Many˺ messengers had ˹come and˺ gone before him. His mother was a woman of truth. They both ate food.1 See how We make the signs clear to them, yet see how they are deluded ˹from the truth˺!-75- Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “How can you worship besides Allah those who can neither harm nor benefit you? And Allah ˹alone˺ is the All-Hearing, All-Knowing.”-76- Say, “O People of the Book! Do not go to extremes in your faith beyond the truth, nor follow the vain desires of those who went astray before ˹you˺. They misled many and strayed from the Right Way.”-77- The disbelievers among the Children of Israel were condemned in the revelations of David and Jesus, son of Mary. That was for their disobedience and violations.-78- They did not forbid one another from doing evil. Evil indeed was what they did!-79- You see many of them taking the disbelievers1 as allies. Truly wicked are their misdeeds, which have earned them Allah’s wrath. And they will be in everlasting torment.-80- Had they believed in Allah, the Prophet, and what has been revealed to him, they would have never taken those ˹pagans˺ as allies. But most of them are rebellious-81- You will surely find the most bitter towards the believers to be the Jews and polytheists and the most gracious to be those who call themselves Christian. That is because there are priests and monks among them and because they are not arrogant.-82- When they listen to what has been revealed to the Messenger, you see their eyes overflowing with tears for recognizing the truth. They say, “Our Lord! We believe, so count us among the witnesses.-83- Why should we not believe in Allah and the truth that has come to us? And we long for our Lord to include us in the company of the righteous.”-84-So Allah will reward them for what they said with Gardens under which rivers flow, to stay there forever. And that is the reward of the good-doers.-85-“ Al-Maida Al Quran Al-Kareem

    • In the name of Allah the most gracious the most merciful Allah Glory to him said: Indeed, Allah chose Adam, Noah, the family of Abraham, and the family of Imrân [father of Mary] above all people. -33- They are descendants of one another. And Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing. -34- ˹Remember˺ when the wife of ’Imrân said, “My Lord! I dedicate what is in my womb entirely to Your service,1 so accept it from me. You ˹alone˺ are truly the All-Hearing, All-Knowing.” -35-When she delivered, she said, “My Lord! I have given birth to a girl,”-and Allah fully knew what she had delivered-“and the male is not like the female. I have named her Mary, and I seek Your protection for her and her offspring from Satan, the accursed.”-36- So her Lord accepted her graciously and blessed her with a pleasant upbringing-entrusting her to the care of Zachariah. Whenever Zachariah visited her in the sanctuary, he found her supplied with provisions. He exclaimed, “O Mary! Where did this come from?” She replied, “It is from Allah. Surely Allah provides for whoever He wills without limit.”-37- Then and there Zachariah prayed to his Lord, saying, “My Lord! Grant me-by your grace-righteous offspring. You are certainly the Hearer of ˹all˺ prayers.”-38- So the angels called out to him while he stood praying in the sanctuary, “Allah gives you good news of ˹the birth of˺ John who will confirm the Word of Allah and will be a great leader, chaste, and a prophet among the righteous.”-39- Zachariah exclaimed, “My Lord! How can I have a son when I am very old and my wife is barren?” He replied, “So will it be. Allah does what He wills.” -40- Zachariah said, “My Lord! Grant me a sign.” He said, “Your sign is that you will not ˹be able to˺ speak to people for three days except through gestures. Remember your Lord often and glorify ˹Him˺ morning and evening.”-41- And ˹remember˺ when the angels said, “O Mary! Surely Allah has selected you, purified you, and chosen you over all women of the world. -42- O Mary! Be devout to your Lord, prostrate yourself ˹in prayer˺ and bow along with those who bow down.”-43- This is news of the unseen that We reveal to you ˹O Prophet˺. You were not with them when they cast lots to decide who would be Mary’s guardian, nor were you there when they argued ˹about it˺.-44- ˹Remember˺ when the angels proclaimed, “O Mary! Allah gives you good news of a Word1 from Him, his name will be the Messiah,2 Jesus, son of Mary; honoured in this world and the Hereafter, and he will be one of those nearest ˹to Allah˺.-45- And he will speak to people in ˹his˺ infancy and adulthood and will be one of the righteous.” -46- Mary wondered, “My Lord! How can I have a child when no man has ever touched me?” An angel replied, “So will it be. Allah creates what He wills. When He decrees a matter, He simply tells it, ‘Be!’ And it is! -47- And Allah will teach him writing and wisdom, the Torah and the Gospel,-48- and ˹make him˺ a messenger to the Children of Israel ˹to proclaim,˺ ‘I have come to you with a sign from your Lord: I will make for you a bird from clay, breathe into it, and it will become a ˹real˺ bird-by Allah’s Will. I will heal the blind and the leper and raise the dead to life-by Allah’s Will. And I will prophesize what you eat and store in your houses. Surely in this is a sign for you if you ˹truly˺ believe. -49- And I will confirm the Torah revealed before me and legalize some of what had been forbidden to you. I have come to you with a sign from your Lord, so be mindful of Allah and obey me. -50- Surely Allah is my Lord and your Lord. So worship Him ˹alone˺. This is the Straight Path.’” -51- When Jesus sensed disbelief from his people, he asked, “Who will stand up with me for Allah?” The disciples replied, “We will stand up for Allah. We believe in Allah, so bear witness that we have submitted.” -52- ˹They prayed to Allah,˺ “Our Lord! We believe in Your revelations and follow the messenger, so count us among those who bear witness.” -53- And the disbelievers made a plan ˹against Jesus˺, but Allah also planned-and Allah is the best of planners.-54- ˹Remember˺ when Allah said, “O Jesus! I will take you1 and raise you up to Myself. I will deliver you from those who disbelieve, and elevate your followers above the disbelievers until the Day of Judgment. Then to Me you will ˹all˺ return, and I will settle all your disputes. -55- As for those who disbelieve, I will subject them to a severe punishment in this life and the Hereafter, and they will have no helpers. -56- And as for those who believe and do good, they will be rewarded in full. And Allah does not like the wrongdoers.” -57- We recite ˹all˺ this to you ˹O Prophet˺ as one of the signs1 and ˹as˺ a wise reminder. -58- Indeed, the example of Jesus in the sight of Allah is like that of Adam. He created him from dust, then said to him, “Be!” And he was! -59- This is the truth from your Lord, so do not be one of those who doubt. -60- }} Al-Imaran Al-Quran Al-Kareem

    • In order for God to get into man, God had to become a man through incarnation to be the real sacrifice once for all for all our sins and to nail the old creation, the law, etc and death and Satan on the cross. And through resurrection to become the All-inclusive life giving Spirit that when we believe and confess that Jesus is Lord will be saved from there sins and receive the life of God to express God in life and nature but not His Godhead. (God the father in Christ Jesus as the Spirit flowing into man). The purpose of life is to express God here on earth for eternity not to go to heaven.

    • I can respond if you like. I suppose you could call me a Christian as I try to follow the words of Jesus and the bible, search for a closer relationship with God, and go to church meetings. The consistent “evidence” supporting my own belief in what (and who) I consider to be the way and truth has been the vast array of modern psychological, sociological and psychoanalytical findings that seem to fall perfectly in place with what God communicates to us in the bible, especially in Jesus’ teachings. Peterson points out quite a few more consistencies in this discussion, which I found fascinating. On top of that, I love his articulation of the idea that looking at stories in the bible as literal, historical, somewhat ephemeral incidences are in a way downplaying their eternal significance, because they were true then, they are now, and they will be in the future.

      @char377@char377 Жыл бұрын
    • On top of that, I also loved hearing from Mohammed about the consistencies with modern life which his holy book have described. On the darker side, I do believe his fervent (and no doubt religiously dutiful) attempts to convince the other two of the higher value or more rightful place of his own religion was kind of missing the point of where this conversation was intended to go. I hoped the core similarities and differences would be discussed in order to reach a further understanding of how we can coexist without conflict, but as Mohammed had suggested a few times, unity is not his main goal.

Apostates are murdered everyday because of sharia. Christians killed everyday. And this is not extremism, they are simply following your prophet. • In a world rich with diversity, where cultures intertwine and beliefs form the very fabric of societies, the quest for a universal understanding of the divine persists. The concept of a universal religion, transcending the boundaries of individual faiths, is an intriguing notion that beckons us to explore the common threads that bind the diverse tapestry of world religions. At the heart of every major religion lies a shared essence-an ethical compass guiding humanity toward virtue, compassion, and a higher purpose. The teachings of love, kindness, and empathy are not confined to a single faith but resonate through the halls of temples, churches, mosques, and synagogues alike. From the Golden Rule in Christianity to the concept of 'Ahimsa' in Hinduism, the core principles advocate treating others with the same respect and kindness we desire for ourselves. The universal religion, if we dare imagine it, could be an amalgamation of these shared ethical values, fostering a world where tolerance and understanding prevail. In such a utopian vision, the richness of diverse traditions becomes a source of celebration, not division. Rather than emphasizing differences, adherents would unite in a shared commitment to fostering goodwill and harmony. However, the path to a universal religion is not without challenges. Religious doctrines often carry distinct cultural nuances and historical contexts, which may present hurdles in creating a seamless synthesis. Additionally, deeply ingrained theological disparities may require delicate navigation to harmonize conflicting beliefs. Yet, the very essence of spirituality is rooted in the pursuit of unity and understanding, providing hope that such challenges can be surmounted. Moreover, the universal religion could draw inspiration from the mystic traditions found in various faiths. Mysticism often transcends the dogmas and rituals, seeking a direct connection with the divine. Whether through Sufism in Islam, Kabbalah in Judaism, or contemplative practices in Buddhism, the mystic path emphasizes a personal communion with the divine, potentially forming a common ground for seekers of truth. The universal religion is not about erasing the distinctiveness of each faith but rather embracing a shared spirituality that transcends the confines of religious labels. It's an acknowledgment that, despite our diverse paths, we are all fellow travelers on the journey of existence. It prompts us to recognize the divine spark within ourselves and others, fostering a sense of interconnectedness that goes beyond the boundaries of creed. In conclusion, the dream of a universal religion beckons us to look beyond the surface disparities of our faiths and recognize the shared values that bind us together. It challenges us to rise above divisive doctrines, embracing the common essence that unites humanity in its collective pursuit of meaning and purpose. While the road to a universal religion may be winding and complex, the destination promises a world where the tapestry of human spirituality weaves a narrative of unity, understanding, and shared reverence for the divine.
