Bitten by Bloodworms!

Bloodworms are back. And this time, Mark's putting those razor sharp copper fangs to the test.
Meet the world's only venomous worm species. Using their bizarre proboscis, bloodworms hunt by striking and envenomating unsuspecting prey with a paralyzing toxin. And guess what we learned since the last video? You can GRAB that proboscis! You know that that means...
Mark ventures back into the mudflats of the Eastern Seaboard to dig up tons of these massive, creepy, bizarre, venomous worms... and take bite after bite after bite.
Do bloodworms bite?
Oh yeah they do.
Do bloodworm bites hurt?
You bet.
Do bloodworms hunt in packs?
Guess Mark will have to stick his hands into a giant tank full of bloodworms to find out...

  • I once got bitten by one, but it was an accident. I have never been fishing, or done anything like that (because my mom loves all animals and so do I), and even then, the only lures I'd ever seen were all synthetic/non-living. One day, it had been raining, and I saw a big pink worm; it was moving weird, and even stranger, it had so many tiny legs... I picked it up, and within a few seconds, I was so confused that it had bit me, and seemed to shoot itself out of its mouth! Needless to say, I had never been bitten by a worm before. I often would move worms out of flooded places to a less flooded place, or after a rain storm would move them from a sidewalk back to grass. So after that one incident, I have learned that if a worm has legs, then do NOT pick it up to examine it!

    • If the fish eat the worms, and the worms have venom, we can eat the fish? Is it cooked out, or just not enough venom to matter? I really like this channel, but they went a little overboard on the hyperbole in this episode. I can't tell what's real, or exaggerated, or the actual threat involved. Some clips they are holding them no problem, the next they are warning how badly the want to bite.

  • Hey guys, I dug bloodworms for many years in Nova Scotia, and you may think that you have nothing else to learn about bloodworms, but you would be wrong. There is a type of bloodworm where I'm from that we call the cannibal bloodworm!! This is twice as big as the biggest regular bloodworms, but looks just like them, you can not put them in the bucket with the other worms, because they will eat them.
