LOL! I love the "10" minutes edit. But seriously, thank you for the summary!
Haha... Yeah, I left a blank there as I didn't know how fast I'd be able to do it. Seemelssly matching my quick tone ain't easy :)
@@gamefromscratch Re-record as flat and as boring as possible. Trust me, it's how the pros do it. Probably.
They made some changes to the glTF importer as well.
5.4 is definitely an animation focused update, hopefully 5.5 or 5.6 focuses on MASS a little more
What is mass
@@mr.mirror1213 MASS Gameplay & AI for simulating thousands of agents
@@azaelue5 Mass Entity systen to be more specific
Really wish there is an easy way to check collisions on static meshes, so I can have an Mass Entity equivelant of a BP that is binded to an event when one of it's static mesh component overlaps something
I wonder if the Actor Sequencer Component ever leaves "experimental Beta" lol
the only problem i actually have with unreal engine is the size and build times, i hope in the future they can make more modular and less heavy overall.
They did mention improved C++ compile times and lowered amount of shader compiles. Engine size wise, either remove unused modules for other platforms or if you are comfortable with making a custom engine build, you can remove a lot of the plugins, which hog most of the space. Especially the experimental plugins
that does help, but even then the main engine feature set is pretty massive, but it doesn't matter because of how good they are, and tbh i wanted to create a pseudo game engine with Nvidia omniverse to learn. @@filipanicic771
how to remove it from the launcher version engine?@@filipanicic771
Wow, they move at insane speed...
Man I love Unreal! It seems that ever since the Unity debacle Unreal has just been nailing everything they are doing. I’m so happy to be using this Engine 🤩
Unreal developing new engine features. Unity developing new monetization features. 🤷

Don't remember if this was mentioned here but they said a first person camera is finally coming by the end of the year for UEFN. Right now seems like a really great time to start learning traditional art, Blender for modeling, texturing, animation, and UE/UEFN if you want to make a game. I'm beginning some courses this week.
Can't wait for verse tbh I'm not a big fan of working with blueprints
I was expecting a release date for fab ngl
Yeah I was more than a bit shocked at the complete lack of Fab content.
No Project Avalanche either...
Doesn't really matter how advanced Fortnite Creative editor gets, we all now well that 99,99% and surely the most played maps will always be the most simple and stupid like colorful parkours and generic "RED vs BLUE" stuff
maybe, but if someone creates an entire storyline campaign something smaller scale of the witcher 3? inside of fortnite?, might get popular. I mean is something like that even possible? I guess not you do have limitations on memory usage so that's going to be always a problem for creators
Yes and no, you have to be 18 plus to make a game and most of those obby tycoon RvB type games are made by 13yo Roblox kiddys; but you really do have a good point, Core gams is 99% that sort of game now and some of the first public Mirror games are those sort of games too, Yahaha give more theme ides so its less generic crap there, but it really is a problem with this sort of platform.
It's like this in every game that allows custom content. Communities tend to gather around simple fan maps that offer a lot of action and map physics.
UEFN is seeding the field with the next gen of talent with experience with their tech. Thats the 3d chess Epic is playing.
It’s the KZhead of videogames, you need to think in 5 years. I mean, upload YOUR game that will be available everywhere on any platform right away…this is so big and thats why Tim Sweeney is fighting everyone for the stores revenue
Motion matching is a really cool feature. I remember EA showing a similar technology in a demo.
Unity has "revealed" their motion matching Kinematica in 2018. The last update was in 2020. I love their thread on the forums called "Democratizing Motion Matching for Character Animation".
When they first demonstrated motion matching in The Last of Us 2 trailers I expected that tech to take over the gaming industry by storm, it seemed so far superior to just about any other animation approach. It's taking a lot longer than I thought, but it's nice to see it happening.
The first time I learned about this technology was on For Honor at the time, I'm surprised that so few games have used it since.
The state of UEFN 😅
Anyone have a link to the Motion Matching Sample Project? I can't seem to find it.
Aaand, my rig is torn apart on my dining room table.+, waiting for parts to arrive. 😢
Family!
Did you say verse was coming to UE?
I watched the original and now your video too, and in both videos it's mentioned that this motion library with 500+ animations is available for download to use with Motion Matching, but both videos fail to mention that it isn't actually available for download yet. It will only be released later in the year.
Meanwhile on Unity: "APV is here for years now, can we please make it usable for something... like... for real?"
Forget APV, they are still trying to make OpenXR and ARFoundation commercially viable. They've been working on VR support for 8 years and still don't include basic things like fading on teleport in their samples. But I digress... APV support is the best work they've done in a while as Apple is paying them an arm and a leg for tooling. Which you can access no problem as long as you buy a pro license - because hey why let a post secondary on an education license develop for APV ;). Ah I suppose I'm a bit unity hostile this week
To compile faster, if you have multiple computers with Unreal loaded and they are all used to work on the same project as used by a team, then you should be able to tell it to compile on one computer and to use the resources of all the computers with the same project loaded on them. This would be done on site, so it would substantially reduce compile times and drastically reduce crashes. We are a small indie team of four, but we have 1 desktop server and 8 laptops we could network and load the project onto so they can all be used during compiling the main project on our server that has AMD Ryzen 7 3800X, 64 gig ram and 12 terabytes of hard drive space, of which 2 terabytes is an M.2 SSD.
Hi there, I’m a regular watcher. Not sure where to message where you may see it. However your original video was quite helpful when deciding whether to use unreal on an M1 Mac. Since it’s been a relatively good experience with only a few limitations. Could you do a video about the Mac updates in unreal 5.4 and an update to the other updates since your last Mac unreal from 9 months ago. That would be awesome, thanks!
Does rendering improvements apply to Android and iOS too?

Um update voltado mais para animação. A epic deveria dar mais carinho pra epic games store se ela quiser ficar realmente atrativa para publishers.
verse going to be big, start leaning now if you going to be using UE in 5 yrs. Verse will be the go to over C++ for UE
What movie that was made by Unreal that won an Oscar?
wow....
If only UE has some more user-friendly language support. Blueprints are nice but have limitations and C++ is not the most user-friendly language ever. Still waiting for c# or maybe some Lua/python Epic version scripting language to be included.

I really like all of the things the epic game store is trying to do to be better for devs than steam, but good lord it just needs to be better first. It loads slows, its search engine sucks, it's library is small, the UX is awful, and there's no review system so I can tell easily if a game is garbage and I honestly can't imagine it's that much work for a whole team to just kinda fix some of this stuff. Idk, I'm not as hostile about epic games launcher as most, but I definitely avoid it when I can for now.
Unity *bought* Weta???
Just the software development branch of it, not the actual VFX studio. My friend works at Weta’s Melbourne studio and they’re not affiliated with Unity
Cap game is the closest I’ve seen that looks like next gen the rest been meh but then again let’s wait and see the the real thing
huh?? why is epic going to make their battle royale using only uefn? the unreal engine is better r they just limiting themselves because they can?
Judge me all you want but I don't like this UEFN stuff. Why does everything has to be around Fortnite? Decent game don't get me wrong but why shove it down to the engine side? I don't wanna hear about improvements to UEFN. Show me the real stuff.
Nice if they did some qol so most ue5 games dont run like garbage
This engine is a generation away from being performant, I’d prefer some games to use unreal 3 to create actual games not light shows
They didn't mention the word A.I *ONCE* in the entire presentation. I know it was intentional. This stuff is super technical, we're getting closer to the point where you can just "dictate" to create your own 3D/game/environment/rules/physics/engines and it's not too far away. I wonder if they're on board with this. IF not, they too, will be replaced. A.I is coming, like it or not.
lmfao UE5 was used to train sora according to Jim Fan and there are plugins in ue5.4 for working with LLM's ... I dont know what your trying to get at because they are at the forefront of AI in video games.
dawg thinks ai will spawn outta the sky and replace the unreal engine, if anything epic will be the first to implement it if they can
No cocaine before making video next time
And still can't fix their stutterfest of an engine when ue3/4 made custom and seamless gameplay like arkham night.
The Unreal engine is garbage. At the moment, only the Epics themselves know how to work with it. All other devs produce unoptimized AAA looking garbage. Yes, yes, bad developers, but if EVERYONE can't create optimized games with it, then the problem is in the game engine itself. Even in Unity, games turn out to be much more optimized. But fools will continue to believe the advertising of “AAA graphics with 0 cost”*. * - rtx 4090 as the minimum system requirements. * - stutters and lags will occur on no matter what system specs.
Maybe you should branch out and play more games... I've played a few solo dev games made in unreal 5 that look amazing and run really well on a 970 GTX... Which is a long ways from a 4090 RTX. Now I'd say it is fair to say that a 3D unreal game does require at least a 970 GTX. They start having issues below that. But most games nowadays recommend at least a 1660 super which is more powerful than a 970 GTX. I very rarely run into an indie unreal game that can't run on a 1080 ti. Which honestly is a pretty outdated GPU nowadays. But it's what I still keep in my 1080p gaming system because I see no real reason to upgrade it. My workstatio has a 4090 this is true, but I also just flat don't like playing a lot of games on a 4k monitor which is what's on my worksation. A lot fo indie games just look better on a 1080p screen.
@@user-hg6be8qq5wAAA solo dev?
Tim is so cringe crying about the store stuff, they make a ton of money already
Last I herd EPIC game store is still losing EPIC money, and EPIC is a company. Compnaies don't tend to keep doing things that loss them money. So bare with his cringe or see the EPIC game store vanish and the monoplies grow. The market will be healthier with more players. At this point Tim is just doing what the government should be doing on its own. Trying to break up unlawful monoplies.
Maybe ue5 will be better next gen 😂 its poor as 💩 atm
