I show some meat feeding to predators in this video. 4K quality. It is natural but some might find it squeamish. Just a warming.
My Jean Shepard reference and my impersonation is from where the movie A Christmas Story, where Ralphie's brother Randy was a kid that wouldn't eat. What a great movie that was. Gabriel can be like Randy and not eating and needs encouragement like Randy's mother gave him.
Getting captive wild cheetahs to eat varied quality meats is not always easy. Lions and leopards don't have that problem. I share a newly introduced ostrich meat to Gabriel to get him used to varied wild game meat. It helps to grant better care for these captive animals when they eat varied wild meats. It also helps identify if they are sick, when they won't eat certain favorite foods. Some cheetahs are extremely finicky and would rather STARVE! than eat some meats. Quite amazing to me.
I have fun introducing ostrich to Gabriel. Sometimes a bird comes in on donation that has perished on a farm. May cheetahs will eat ostrich but Gabriel had never experienced it before. I show him a wing with feathers and then buy a local ostrich filet and share it with him DIRECTLY! I cook my ostrich but Gabriel decided he wanted my cooked on and his raw.
My cooked ostrich was cooked special without any flavoring in case Gabriel eat mine, which he did! Spices are not natural and the reason I cooked it without any. It could possibly harm his intestinal system or give him diarrhea.
Thanks for watching!

  • Getting captive cheetahs to eat proper wild diets is sometimes a challenge! Many are very finicky eaters and if not introduced to natural game meats when young, they can refuse to eat game meats. A captive animal not eating its favorite foods can be a sign of trouble too like sickness or injury, but also depression or something mental. A male cheetah can ignore food due to arousal over a female too. A good relationship with a captive cheetah can help. I get Gabriel to try Ostrich for the first time and doubt he would eat it on his own. If it does not smell, look, taste or feel familiar, many a captive cheetah (or wild I imagine) won't eat it. SO, I hand feed a filet of Ostrich to Gabe's and then share a cooked meal with him on his favorite mound in his enclosure. Enjoy!

One of my cats demanded to rough handled and made weird alien noises while she ate, I'll probably never understand it, but I was happy to help her out. Thanks for letting us watch Gabriel eat! I didnt know cheetahs were so different from other cats that they wouldn’t be affected by tha ‘nip.. Full disclosure: I was contemplating ending all this morning. But after watching some of your videos I’ve remembered how much good there is in the world, and reminded me to focus on love. And also that I’m not a tree. If I can’t live in Finland in peace, I can always go across the puddle (Atlantic) and of course I’d bring my two cats with me... But anyway THANK YOU ☺️🙏❤️

    • About same hardness but sharper as a dogs. Only a cheetahs dew claw (near the wrist) stays sharp as it does touch the ground. The other claws wear down due to touching the ground. The back claws always are dull for a cheetah that walks and runs on ground/dirt/sand and rocks. A cheetahs claws always stick out half way so they can grip the ground and get better traction when running and turning so fast.

More is being learned all the.time. our cheetahs get this special formulated predator powder on every meal and less frequent vitamins and lipids. But for me, I wish they only ate wild game 2 or 3x a week like they do in the wild. It's not possible on our budget and we have to get free chicken and dead ranch animals frequently.

  • It makes me laugh to see that Gabriel prefers the cooked version of the ostrich steak. 🤣He dont stop look at it. Maybe it's not so bad or weird. We know that cheetahs normally eat their prey right after they die, so they don't have a digestive system very suited for preserved meat. But when this meat is cooked, perhaps that's better suited for them. Just a (funny) theory...or im just too far west. lol

    @victorpineiro9718@victorpineiro9718 Жыл бұрын
    • Hi. Read where predators can eat cooked meat OK. But cooking it removes some of the nutrient and changes it so not as nutritious as eating raw. We humans have been donesticated and cant eat raw meat without potential serous illness from bateria, viruse, paracites or protozoa because our enzemes and acids in our stomach don't break down foods like a cheetahs stomach does. Cheetahs eat bone and comes out white mush... we eat it and risk paratinitus (punctures in our intestines).

      @CheetahWhisperer@CheetahWhisperer Жыл бұрын
    • In fact the best for cheetahs would be to feed them whit live animals. But it can be cruel and poses a question of morality. But you are right Dolph, i was joking basicaly.

      @victorpineiro9718@victorpineiro9718 Жыл бұрын
  • I always wondered, are all those meats cold when you feed them to the cheetahs? Maybe if they were warm enough, then the cheetahs would find it easier to eat them, no? The meat would taste more like juicy, freshly killed prey, which is what they naturally like. Also warm meat has stronger taste, which may make it more appetizing to them.

    • Yes... Feeding warm like a fresh killed meal is best. Most need frozen and then thawed to keep the stored. They still eat it if lil cool but I try to soak the bowl in hot water (not directly in) to warm. The frozen meats are thawed over night and in the sun with a flie cover. It's hot there all year round. In winter, it also helps keep the cheetahs warmer if the meal is warm too.

      @cynofeliswildlife9967@cynofeliswildlife9967 Жыл бұрын
    • @@cynofeliswildlife9967 @Cynofelis Wildlife These non profit predator projects depend on money and food donations. The food has to be pre exinamined with questions, like how it died, was it medicated, shot with lead bullet and so on. Cattle farms donate and some goats come in do but mostly it is wild donated game that is fed to the cheetahs. Some cheetahs don't like either cow or goat. Gabriel does not. Those donated cows go to the lions that eat anything and more robust digestive tolerances. The cheetahs do get a lot of chicken from farms. There is good chicken and bad, based on spoil condition to how they were raised and drugs given them. It's expensive to provide total wild diet and the cheetahs can become finicky eaters if not given a variety of wild diet when cubs. Thx for asking.

    @marissaharp6197@marissaharp61972 жыл бұрын
    • Yes... He ate too much chicken when young and why he does not like many game meats. It also affected his health. He did not nurse from his mom in the critical months or given many game meats when growing up. He was not mine during these years or I'd made sure of it. Not nursing from mom causes developmental problems, one of which is size and immunity. I will make sure all my future cheetahs nurse from mom and eat a varied diets of game that include whole prey animals and/or chunks of organs, hair and bone. That produces a healthy big strong cheetah.

    @rachelschwebach7566@rachelschwebach7566 Жыл бұрын
    • YES... but the formula they used since Oct 2022 was tainted with too much vitamin A and it got some cheetahs sick and dead from this project and others. The company that provides it changed formula and caused the problem. If I had my way, I'd not supplement any except for special needs cases and give them the right foods, skin, bone, organs, fats, and tissue from the prey animals they would hunt. No domesticated anything. Can be just as bad as supplements with all those drugs they give domesticated animals.

    • Sometimes... like when I lay on my back for Gabriel. But most all these cheetahs are skittish and bluff. All cheetahs. They all can be faced down easily as they are extremely unsure of themselves. It is a survival trait because 3 larger predators can kill them in the wild, so they adapted to become non aggressive and run and stay away from fights. Tamed cheetahs are more dangerous because they lose fear of people but are still skittish and non aggressive and some will attack for various reasons. A wild one will not.

  • For some reason neither of my kitties is really interested in any kind of cat food except for…cat food. My older cat Audrey will sometimes take an interesting in chicken but that’s about it. Murka, my little tortie, has no interest whatsoever in anything that doesn’t come out of a can or a bag. It’s quite puzzling to me. I’ve had a bunch of cats over the years & these two are the first I’ve had who actually prefer cat food to human food. On the one hand it makes things easier for me-I don’t have to worry too much about them getting into stuff they shouldn’t. It is puzzling, though. Never had a cat before who wasn’t more interested in what was on my plate than theirs….🙂🤷‍♂️

  • What do you think about the "Big Cat Saftey Act" ?

    @rejvexplx449@rejvexplx4492 жыл бұрын
    • There is worthy debate about owning captive wild animals. Too much for this small response. There are circumstances where captive wild animals is OK, like some quality zoos, reserves, rehab, release projects, injured, handicapped, or old ones and endangered species breeding programs like the one I am involved with. There are more examples too. But having A pet wild animal is not good. One that is owned for personal use, gain or profit. Mainly because it's not right but also they don't have the interest of the animal in mind and it can suffer for various reasons. Can get aggressive and attack, predator or prey. But the law probably needs to pass for the animals sake and force basic regulations to protect the owner and animal. Have large enough space for it, not some backyard BS. Proper care, food and make sure they can afford it. Permits should be required and bi yearly or more inspections and such and crime and punishment for violaters. As for breeding, grey area for endangered species and non threatened. There are just so many things to consider. Zoos today cull healthy animals to make room for babies that draw crowds instead of placing those animals in reserves or private ownership. It's mostly a nasty enterprise. Can private responsible owners be trusted to care for them? So many things about this subject...
