I spend some quality time with Gabriel, The Cheetah. He really loves the visits and I show his behavior before, during, and after our encounters.
Cheetahs roll around on their backs for various reasons. Gabriel rolls and rubs the ground when I approach him. It is his way of telling me he is very happy to see me. He often rolls around and then looks to see if I am watching. Once that is done, he typically gets up for a physical interactive visit with me.
So, I filmed some clips of us during my visits on the ground in mostly selfie view to show what he does. Our encounter and his behaviors are quite predictable and how I can predict what he'll do. It normally begins is affectionate purring and grooming and ends with a cat play fight session. He loves to play fight and practice his predatory skills on my arm and hands. It is actually a bit scary for me as I only get to visit Gabriel twice a year due to a career that supports my project. But, he loves it so much that I accept the risks and allow the play bite sessions. I think in the end, it strengthens our bonds rather than risks it.
No on one else in the Universe enriches Gabriel as I can and why we are such good friends. He is alone in that wild camp and cannot have many visits from others as Gabriel has a history of some naughtyness and slapping so off limits except minor encounters. He is very dominant and can express that dominance on people and other cheetahs and why. I love him so take all the risks for him to enrich his life when I can.
Thanks for watching! Enjoy!

That deep rumbly purr!!! It's obvious to me that he loves and trusts you. And the look of contentment in his eyes says he's with his favorite human. Oh, what bliss for both of you!
I love Gabriel's purr. I think I have one just of him purring, but as I mentioned, he only purrs when thinking about me. But also when grooming and playing with me. His licking gets in the way of his nice purring so its hard to get JUST his purring.
@@CheetahWhisperer Being busy purring also means less time you're being licked. Oh, ow!
I can relate! 😬

Ahhh thx for watching Gabriel.
There's cat purring videos on KZhead to help you fall asleep, a cheetah purring soundtrack would be fantastic 😆💚 Cheetah ASMR 😁
I'll try and make one... I gathered many purrs for that purpose in the past.
Oooh yeah that'd be fantastic! I love that sound so much! Magnificent beings! thankyou for sharing.

So glad you are a long time fan.
@@CheetahWhisperer Another long time fan here. Loved how you and that fine young African helped make Gabriel's look out with a step to help reduce pressure on his shoulders while coming down.

I think so too!
What a fantastic bond you have together! Its about love and respect, and you must be very proud to have achieved friendship with the fastest yet most fragile of predators. Not to say how beautiful Gabriel is
I truly love it. I try so hard to win over all the animals in my care. They are so much happier when that happens.

He is wonderful. Should have an interesting Shorts out this weekend. Showing his athletic nature when getting accidently spooked.
Lucky man interacting with cheetah.Must be really good experience. Animals are naturally very intelligent and kind. 🐆🤩🐾
Ahh man. Dream come true for me. I've always had pets and they are the most rewarding event of my day. Gabriel is not a pet, but a breeding cheetah but his friendliness with me gives me the same rewarding feelings as my pets in the past.
Gabriel is stunningly handsome!! Love how he shows you how much he loves you with his awesome purring and grooming (aka kitty kisses)!!! @@CheetahWhisperer I always look forward to your videos!! They are awesome!!
He is so beautiful!
Thx. Sure is.
Sure would like to see him have cubs. If like cats, the cubs will often take after the father's personality. I love those big purrs.
Me2. I have asked for him to be allowed to breed. There is some reservations from owners ot females due to Gabriel's aggression some times. I will have to wait until Abi, my one female,) to leave her cubs naturally and go into heat. I asked the project to allow Gabriel to breed with Abi or her daughter Kimi when ready.
Love his cuddleroll when he sees you! I wonder if he gets aggressive towards the other males cause he's trying to protect you?
Cuddle roll is cute! Male and female cheetahs also roll to each other when attracted to each other. A female will roll to signal she is approachable for mating and the male will reciprocate, saying he's available and friendly. A male cheetah will also roll to a passing female to attract her. And of course all cheetahs roll to feel good, scrape off debris, aid in digestion, or scratch and itch. Gabriel always rolls and rubs to tell me he's happy to see me. Male cheetahs have this male-male aggression embedded in them. Some male cheetahs aren't so aggressive. It's about survival and maintaining valuable hunting ground territory for them. Wild coalitions of cheetahs always fight when coming across each other. One looses and slinks away. Some die from the encounter from injuries. It is the way of nature.
Hey Gab, you look have happy life and always glad to spend good time with your best human Friend Dolph . Always a pleasure to watch you What about finding your love and dad of precious cubs
Ahhh... I hope he finally finds a mate that will breed with him. I want his legacy to pass on and hopefully train and release a Gabe cub one day. Trying.
I love animals, wish I could be around these amazing creatures
Me too. I've got a career outside this colurently and only get bits of their lives for now. Hope to change that when I get enough money to build my own cheetah project.
That´s awesome. My little cat has to step up the purring game. You are a lucky man!
Yep... Get your cats to practice their purring. Rev up with what they like.

this is so sweet how close you guys are! This makes me happy seeing this. I’ve always loved Cheetahs they are so unique and beautiful
Luv your pic! Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@CheetahWhisperer Thank you! Np!
Mouthing affection and love biting are things that cats just like to do, and if you allow it they'll love you even more for it. I find it super adorable, even though you risk getting a few scritches and scratches here and there from the sharp teeth or a misadjusted playpunch.
It can be scary... But Gabriel remembers how much he loved the laying on people. There was a gap of about 3 years from his teen years till adult where no one was allowed interaction with him. Years later I ended up owning him and laid on my back. Her remembered and loved it. Purr...purr.
gabriel looks healthy and good❤
He does! Very happy about it.
It's so wonderful to see this. It's such a blessing that you get to be so close and interacting with an animal like this in this way. It's so lucky and beautiful.
Thank you!
Hey Dolph Gabriel is looking so happy and healthy🙂 makes my day seeing the happiness and sheer content on his face, also that coalition bond you and Gabriel share, really is amazing! By the way your beard is rocking! I bet Gabriel loves it👍
Very please with Gabriel's condition and health. Pray it continues. He's older now. 9 and cheetahs in captivity can live to 15 but not much farther. Hope to have him breed and have cubs before then to pass on his legacy and a chance to release one or some.
@@CheetahWhisperer well you can tell he's healthy happy and let's hope he can breed! Is there any possibility of artificial insemination? I know with cheetahs it's really a hard thing(breeding in captivity) officially out artificially!
@@Hotelguitarplayer If I ever get settled in South Africa, that is one thing I will pursuit; artificial insemination and sperm cold storage but want to avoid sedation as it is very damaging to their immune systems. There are many great wildlife vets and Universities who can help me there.
@@CheetahWhisperer well here's to the future Dolph👍I hope nothing but the best for you, Gabriel, and all the animals you take care of! Mad respect my friend
2:30 You kept it well together with that Fly on your nose! It must've been tickly! 😅
Yep... Learn to hold you sneezes when on camera. Flies are bad that year. They are meat eaters and breed by the millions in the area. You have to clean up any remains the predators don't eat quickly and bury it but sometimes it's left out and blooms of flies happen. They got on Gabriel too. I put out 2 flie collection traps last time I was there at Gabe's. That was 3 months ago. I go back in April and will film the difference in flies before and after.
The bonding is precious but it can get testy when the animal shows love by biting!
Yes.. I've seen Gabriel get over excited, like house cats and then its dangerous. And why I limited the 'play time'. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Gabriel is so darn cute
Truly.
Happy to see Gabriel again on the internet! He´s such a handsome sweet cheetah boy! You two have really an amazing bond, beautiful to watch! Is that at Cheetah Experience in Bela Bela? I´m going there this summer for the first time. Could you tell me, how are volunteer houses there? I´m not sure if I have to bring my own mosquito net or not. Also, how are Abi and her cubs?
Oh Boy! Fantastic! I moved Gabriel and Abi (who now has (2) 8mo old cubs) to RunningWildConservation.org in Rustenburg, South Africa (about 1.5 hrs from airport and 4 hours from Bela). Running Wild has a volunteer program as well. But to answer your question, both have cabins/housing for vollies. Don't need mosquito net. I stayed in a house at Cheetah Experience and has everything you need to live. Running Wild has cabins with separate rooms. I have not seen many mosquitoes at Running Wild or CE Bela. In Bloemfontein where they used to be was terrible with bothersome mosquitoes. Abi and her cubs are phenomenal. They went on a hunt this past Sunday but another cheetah female had to hunt for them. I'll show more about them shortly. Had to get Gabriel in there this post.

Yep...
Hey Gabriel!!! Do you Love Dolph? I think you do! Such a respected and beautiful relationship
Gabe is really special.
How is Kenji? Haven't seen him for a long time. And how old is our good boy Gabriel?
Sadly, I heard that Kenji died from kidney failure last year. It is a leading cause of death for captive cheetahs. They are very fragile to most anything and why special care is required to house and care for them. Still they die unexpectedly and more is being learned to save them from this disease. As for Gabriel, he is still doing GREAT! As you see in this video. He is 9 years old now. I pray for his good health.
You two are awesome!
You too!!
The true pure love = a true devoted friend = its clear you both love each other = its beautiful how you mirror each others position = and your grooming sessions = such perfect connection understanding and love. @@CheetahWhisperer I enjoy living vicariously through you..😃 Thanks for sharing!
Gabriel is an absolute love. So much trust in you. I melted when he lay on top of you. What a wonderful purry blanket! I play-fight with my Simon. He loves belly rubs, and most times just lies there purring and undulating in ecstasy, but sometimes goes into wrestling mode. He slows way down to match human speed, though. 😺 If his bites get a bit too much, I just go completely still, and say "eaaaasy" a few times. He stops then, usually with a few apology licks , and after a bit of calm-down time, we can resume. My Dad went at it nearly full-out with their cat Sam, but he wore heavy leather work gloves. He'd basically grab Sam by the belly and scrub the floor with him, and Sam would fight him like he was another cat. They both loved it! And Sam wouldn't get that aggressive if you had bare skin. Lots of people don't realize how much even a domestic cat can mess you up, but unless they've had abusive backgrounds and are terrified, usually giving them back their own signals works. You just have to learn the language. Of course, it can lead to some hilarious scenes with domestics. I hiss to express disapproval when words don't work. Simon's late sister, though, was very feisty, and would hiss right back. I'm sure anyone seeing a hissing match between us would have been laughing like crazy.
Your cat escalating the play biting is what I must avoid with Gabriel and why I don't fight back. Then he remains relaxed about it. Thx for sharing your experiences with cats.
@@CheetahWhisperer Oh yeah, that'd be too dangerous. But it's wonderful you can do what you do together. Welcome! Just hope I don't babble too much. I get excited. 😄

Amazing stuff, I always find these videos so relaxing to watch makes me miss having a pet
So cool. I don't have a pet for now either. I travel to South Africa to visit my cheetah project cheetahs and really enjoy caring for them. I purposely don't have a pet so I can travel to see the cheetahs. Want to move there so bad so I can carry on my project there. Finances prevent me doing so. It's VERY expensive to even start a cheetah breeding and rewilding project.

I hauled him out and put him in front of me like a little spoon. For the past pert near a decade I have spooned him nightly. He's my little living, warm and breathing teddy bear. He's not the biggest in size in the house but he's got all the personality haha
@@bunnysparklzbunnytime5117 Awwwww❤❤❤ So sweet!! 😻😻😻
Social animals, much like humans, having different behavior around different being (purrs for his human lollipop, stalkes fellow male cheetah). makes sense i suppose. Playfighting should also allow easier health checks i think - one gets to see the cat's teeth, claws and if they have any pains.
EXACTLY! It is the main benefit of having a encounter based bond with captive animals in my care. I get to physically examine them closely to stave off potential escalating health problems. For example, I collected Gabe's pee last visit while he did the deed to examine the color and scent of it. Cheetahs get kidney problems in captivity for various reasons and it is my main concern with cheetahs in my care. A wild cheetah I have to sedate when it won't eat and can never examine it up close to feel for problems externally or internally. I could essentially place mobile Ultrasound device on some tame cheetahs. Interactive captive care It's the only way for me. I also enjoy it.
Praise the LORD for creating cool cats!
Truly...
@Dolph C. Volker Your comment holds much more value to me than a lot, because you are humble enough to recognize the love that GOD has bestowed us through animals. Thank you.
Have you ever used the percussion gun to simulate purring with them? I’ve noticed my house cat really responds to it and I wondered if cheetah would also. Not using it on them btw, but just near them. Anytime I use mine at a certain speed my cat comes over and runs against me/it.
Not using an instrument but I use my personal tongue purring noise to all of them at some point. It sounds real but have not seen them respond. I have recordings of their purrs and other cheetahs and plan on using a JVL Bluetooth speaker to play it back to them to test their response. I used a mating call of one male before and they were all interested.
Cheetahs are one of most beloved felines. But they are endangered, and must be protected. I wonder if there are humans helping cheetahs by hunting some impalas/gazelles for meat and feed to cheetahs.
In reserves where captive released cheetahs are, they do supplement their food if they struggle. In wild areas with wild cheetahs, no. No helping them. They want them surviving on their own and breed and live on their own. Same hope for captive released cheetahs.
@@CheetahWhisperer The thing that we are worrying is the rival predators (like hyenas or lions) are killing cheetah cubs while their mother leaves them for hunting. Plus hyenas mostly steal meals from cheetahs before they even start to eat.
@@rulue8610 yes. It is why I'll never release any of my cheetahs where leopards, lions or hyenas are.
Do u ever get high anxiety when with these amazing cats?
No, it is relaxing as I love them so much. Especially when they come to you purring and want attention. Ohh When Gabriel starts play biting.. yes I get anxious a bit. He's not totally tamed and can get naughty at times and angry and even play bite too hard, swat sometimes and hiss and moody. But most of the others I interact with I can mostly trust them 100% if you maintain certain interactive protocols., like allowing THEM to come to you for attention.
@@CheetahWhisperer So basically with dogs u don't know u always stand your ground and NOT be scared or intimitaded but love them. Hard to explain wriring a text. That's amazing.. but I have strict, personal, rules about having pets that can kill me. but that's a good rule.. they come see you.. if they want. Avoids bad hair days and miscommunications. Again that is truly amazing your relationship with this powerful cat. All at the cats choosing.
The rule of allowing these cats come to you works the best. Sometimes they don't want bothered and avoids tension by allowing them to decide to interact. Many enjoy the visits. Thx for watching and commenting!
The biggest baby
Cool!
I turn off my adblocker when I see Dolph's videos.
THANKS!
About lying down on your back; If Cheetas are like other cats, and I've seen nothing to indicate otherwise, its about trust. A cat shows that it trusts you by exposing its most vulnerable part, its belly. So by getting down on your back, you're showing him that your trust him *completely.* And as for why HE wants you to do it, sooner rather than later, is probably because he wants to know "Do you still trust me, or have we become strangers?"
Yes. I think so too. Most vulnerable. The cats respect that you trust them.
Even tamed cheetahs can still hurt humans. Is there a way to not get hurt while living with cheetah?😢
Oh yeah. One day I'll compile my captive cheetah bloopers and show the dangers and stitches. Only very special cheetahs can be trusted 100% but you also have to respect the 100% on the same level, there are/were cheetah/human relationships that were 100% mutually respectful without conflict or injury.
Hello 😇.. I hav a question. u re too close with these cats. How u protect yourselves from ticks? I recently own a puppy. I was terrified to see ticks on my clothes. Thought i could get help from u
Yes, too many ticks. I find them crawling on me every week. I check all the time. I can't wear tick spray as it is toxic to cheetahs licking it. I use long clothes, whitish so I can see them and tightly meshed cuffs. But for Gabriel, I must give him internal tick meds. He gets ticks but they die. It is very bad as it is poison. Even for you pet, the tick meds damage immune systems and can cause disease. You basically poison the blood of your pet to detour external and internal parasites. That is how it works. You can research non toxic meds and shampoos, but it will be a constant battle, especially if your pets are outside.
@@CheetahWhisperer thanks very much for your reply :)
Has any of the cats ever accidentally hurt you? My vlcak did a number on my arm one time, and as soon as she broke the skin, she let go and tried to apologize.
Yep. There was a female that liked to pacify herself on your arm before falling asleep. She never let go then woke up in a nightmare and damaged the dermis under my skin when waking up and bearing down. Gabriel has scratched many many times, but on purpose. Once needing stitches. But by accident is more rare. They never apologize in ways you can tell. I don't endorse having a cheetahs as pets ever for the species survival sake or most people not knowing how to care for them and getting injured. Thanks for the comment and asking!
@Dolph C. Volker I think many people forget watching your videos that these, no matter where or how good of a bond you have are are still wild animals . They need to be treated with the respect and caution that they deserve.
he is enamored with you, should take him home, just got your complimentary microdermabrasion, what a sweet boy
He's totally capable of sweatmess for sure. He loves having a friend to love... But he can also get mean. To other male cheetahs and one staff member who he does not like. Difference is the human he just keeps away from and the male cheetahs he actually tries to attack. When this human approaches, he bares teeth and even slaps ground at him. But not attack. It's the maintenance men of the grounds he does not like. I am sorry to say Gabriel is racist. It is black people he does not like. Not his fault or anyone's fault. When a cheetah captive is not interacted with races of people and only certain kinds, they don't like things they are not familiar with. No black people ever interacted with Gabriel when growing up. I had zero control over it as he was not mine until 5 years old. My cheetah cubs are now getting exposure to all races and genders of people so they are not like this. I need everyone to be able to care for my cheetahs.
It hurts me seeing people stealing your videos without even crediting you 😐 especially on tiktok.
