Abi First Time At New Project! • Introducing Abigale "A...
I've known Abigale since she was a lil cub, but only 'blips' of her life with her sister Joyce. Abi (her nickname), was one of five cubs born to her mom Abby, who was a super nice friendly loving cheetah mom. Abigale was caught in the birth cannel and an emergency C-Section surgery was required to save the cubs and Abby. All cubs and mom were saved but Abi suffered irreparable damage to her back right hip. When she was old enough, surgery was required to correct it so she could walk and run again. It was a success, but it meant Abi could never be released so she stayed with her sister until last year 2021 when I went through the process of legally adding her to my project with Gabriel.
Well, fast forward and when I moved Gabriel to this new project, I brought Abigale with me and she has matured SO much that I cannot believe it. She was in the shadows of her sister and it is natural for a female cheetah to live isolated lives in the wild. Joyce and Abi are doing well. Abi has excelled in the months she has been at the new project. She has become brave, bold, confident and I have worked on both her fear of men and food aggression. She has huge wild camps to live in and share with a surrogate sister named Hunter. The results of her enrichment walks, improved confidence, good wild game nutrition, patience and love, she has shown signs of wanting to breed! I was satisfied with having Sweat Abi as a rescue animal to show the female side of cheetahs, but she wants more out of life! It means we are doing the right things that Abi's mind, body and sole have come to the conclusion that motherhood is a possibility too.
I consulted three different wildlife vets for their onion about Abi getting pregnant and any health and safety concerns for Abi's welfare. They all said she could easily bare cubs and would not be a problem and it it was, they could be ready with a C-Section surgery to help. I thought it would be worth the risk and allowed Abi to nurture her drive to breed. What comes next is fully up to Abi.
It would be a wonderful contribute to cheetah species and the world if she did. They would not be my cubs to Abi's and the worlds; adding to the endangered numbers of cheetahs in our world. Depending on the number and gender of the cubs, my plan has always been to divide them between breeders back in the program and/or designate for release. We shall wait and see. It would be a wonderful dream come true for me.
Thanks for watching!

  • What a SPECIAL and life changing event for Abigale The Cheetah or (Abi for short), the world, cheetah conservation and myself. I added Abi to my cheetah project membership a year ago as a rescue animal. I wanted her to educate us about the feminine perspective of cheetahs. Abi is a handicapped cheetah who has a damaged hip and cannot be released. But, she is a reproductive viable female cheetah and I consulted with several wildlife cheetah vets for their opinion if she could safely bare cubs if she wanted. They all said yes. Abi will decide. I'm a little behind on posting about Abi's progress, but she will be included in future posts to update everyone. I always wanted a couple of rescue cheetahs who could possibly breed but cannot be released. Neither Gabriel or Abi can be released due to their handicaps, but through them, I will educate folks about what a cheetah is about. Abi joins Gabriel in our endeavors. What a blessing she is... Abi.

    • Hi there, would you be able to do a ambush test on a leopard using a mask on the back of your head? I have seen one of your previous videos where you show what happens when you turn your back to a Leopard. Just wondering if the Leopard would be tricked by you wearing a mask so that when you turn away the cat still sees a face. I watched a survivor episode why they said the mask would protect against tigers.

      @generalreview8372@generalreview8372 Жыл бұрын
    • @@generalreview8372 That would be good to test on captive friendly leopards for sure. Unfortunately, I no longer go to the project that has leopards. I might be willing to rescue a leopard in the future, one that cannot be released and needs a home. But that will be years from now.

    • True. They are still wild but I don't want them aggressive toward me and try my best to alleviate that for safety sake and better care. But they DO get nasty to each other at times, cheetahs in general. Males especially. Non related males will try and kill each other. Not all males are like that but most. • If more people treated their cats with love then they'd find that cats have a lot of the same qualities as dogs. Guard the door, follow you around, cuddle, etc. Unfortunately, most people treat cats as a decoration and so they never see that side of them. (Not saying you're doing anything wrong, just saying that you should get your dog a kitty or two).

      @JasonLihani@JasonLihani Жыл бұрын
    • @@JasonLihani very true…I’ve had cats all my life and they were all loving . There are also accounts of cats defending their owners quite against intruders. People are treating species as decorations…it’s disgusting. Carrying small dogs in purse as status symbols is an example. There are some differences between the two species, which is fine with me. I consider a all living things to be persons and, as with humans, enjoy their differences and their similarities. Good comment by you.

    • I know! I thought it would work. Abi had been living with her sister and other females at this project another one and having some possession due to the competition. I needed to show her that was not necessary between us. We elevate the stress by feeding them in physically separate pens or outside the pen with one cheetahs and another inside. But by pairing compatible females together, like with non possessive food fighting cheetahs, it avoids the trouble. Hunter and Abi don't fight over food or try and steal so they are great roomys. Thx for watching and commenting!

Meanwhile, my veterinarian says that if my cat's heart stops under anesthesia, they only have a 3 to 5 percent chance of successfully resuscitating him. Maybe that's what I get for using a veterinarian whose clinic is owned by a candy company (Banfield).

Abby is beautiful and I and I am so happy that you guys got her out of the birth canal and that she was born and that she has grown up to be so strong and beautiful. Does she have a super strong bond with you just as much? Does she trust you as much as Gabriel does? What it like to bond and how do you properly bond with these cheetahs? They’re strong.

Inevitably you want to work harder and conserve some battery, which equates to calories. A fun way to enjoy nature without focusing too hard on effort imo.

  • Mountain lions are very similar to cheetahs too, in both temperament and the fact that they are big "small cats", it's a surprise they both weren't domesticated, they did it with foxes after all. It's probably just because of the roles cats have held historically, big dogs had a use as a hunting aid, but no one wanted big cats around to kill huge pests as a larger size analog of the role small cats held. Snow leopards are also very mellow. It's strange that obligate carnivores can be so affable.

    • @@formhubfar ....Backwards, poachers killed the first five's mother, Rangers found them and brought them to Kevin via the vet. The next were the three whose mother was killed by lions, probably trying to protect her young, and the same found by the Rangers, this time Kevin went out to the vet to pick them up. Now all are referred to as the "Miracle Eight" the first "students", first 'class' of Kevin's "School" for re-wilding, in prep for release at the age of 24 months or so. A model for when the other big cats 'age out' and he can devote his resources to re-wild orphans and rescues in other conservation projects. They just killed their first warthog {raw pork} not too long ago, after getting used to digging into herbivore carcasses and doing well at it. Its all in the video archives from the past year or so.

  • Has she been food aggressive since birth and they couldn't nurse?

    @karenhorton2345@karenhorton2345 Жыл бұрын
    • They didn't' get to nurse after their mom was out of surgery so they allowed them to get that colostrum under anesthesia. I think they also collected her milk to give the cubs. it is VERY good for them. Abby (their mom) could not nurse again after that and I don't know if they tried again later. Abby, the mom, went to another project after recovering. But, cubs will not fight over nursing, but might push. If I recall, I did not see the aggression between Abi and her sister Joyce, but I only fed them so few times that I don't know. I noticed the food aggression once I moved her to the project she is at with Gabriel now. Thx for the interest and question! Her aggression is alleviated now that she has a roommate that does not try and steal food. I don't think she was hand fed before or been so long since begin hand fed that she didn't remember. I hand feed to bond with them and get them to trust me. It also helps to make sure they take medication if they need it.

Last few years she has not had much human contact I think. She was living with her sister at a nice project but got the feeling they were fed but not interacted with much. That is ALL changed for ABI. You will see in the future vids. She has matured SO MUCH. Used to be scared to leave her pen for walks, scared of some people, mean at feeding time, and not confident. ALL that is better now. Amazing.
