Enjoy Gabriel's antics over females, food, and his friend.
I show examples of the priorities in life for male Cheetahs in captivity and probably the wild as well. Gabriel demonstrates how important the instinctive drive to reproduce is and how it's important to saving his species. The instinct of hunger is next in line of priorities and THEN friendship.
It's funny but interesting how life is. In there somewhere in between is also aggression, which is used to sustain personal survival, such as food aggression, defending territory (for wild cheetahs) and fighting off other predators to include other coalition of cheetahs. Many male and female cheetahs decide to fight for various reasons in captivity, but limited to protect them. Some aggression promotes the breeding response, like coalition of males slapping each other over a female the both like. Fence aggression is a real thing for captive cheetahs and controlled. Males could decide to kill each other if given the chance.
But in a captive breeding program like this one, problems are mitigated and controlled. Not so in a wild environment where many a cheetah dies to predation, injury, and sickness. Noit many cheetahs reach adulthood and far less die of old age.
Gabriel is so funny ditching me for females and food. But I am so glad he has enough room in his heart and mind to find a friend in me. THAT is my reward for giving loving care for him and all my cheetahs; past, present and the future.
Thanks for watching!

:) Ditchin me like we all do.
Its so good to see Gabriel still being loving as always. I hope he gets his girl! Lol
I know. I love that about him. They say the male cheetahs are more affectionate because by nature they seek out coalitions of other males to live in the wild and have to be nice to get that. But, I've encountered very affectionate female cheetahs as well. And any member outside of a coalition is the enemy... except females, but a male coalition can attack them too.
The chirping for females is adorable. How come she doesn't fall for that 😄
I know! Courting is cute for cheetahs. Interestingly the females ALSO makes this sound to respond in kind when in 'heat' but they ALSO make that same sound when nervous. It has a different pitch and how you know. THey make the sound outside of 'heat' when passing by some males that charge at them... scare them.
I think _all cats_ are disappointed with their humans at times. The look is unmistakable! 😹
Yep... They own us versus them.
Yeah, when I was a teenager it was the same thing: girls > food > friends
HA!
Females >Food>Friends! Hey #3 is still pretty good! Love your bond!
:) Thanks for watching and commenting!
Talking to the girls he sounds like my cat chattering at birds outside the window.
Cool!
What Gabriel thinks: Wake up, talk to my gf, lick and drool some people, eat, sleep, repeat. I got the best life ever. Is that about accurate?
Yep!
@@CheetahWhisperer and maybe throw up here and there.
Beautiful cheetahs
Truly! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Always excited to see a Gabriel video! I gotta admit, he's one of my favorites. I love his chattering sounds. I bet it sounds really cool in person!
Me too !!!! His purrs are so wonderful too. I try getting an ASMR response from it by closing my eyes and drowning out other sounds. It was scary actually! Like that anaconda in The Jungle Book who memorizes you before EATING you!
Aww Poor Gabe. Those chicks are sure picky. 🤣
YES!
Man, ive been watching Gabriel since the beginning.. glad hes doing great n so are u dolph.. been a while since u did a video... Jealous u have a cheetah as a pet..😂😂..💞💞💞
Thx! Ahh... Gabriel is supposed to be a breeding cheetah for his species but he's mated once before but had no cubs. He is non-releasable due to his congenital problems, like a disjointed spine, but he is not a pet, but someone that has befriended me. He lives in a nice large wild camp (you see it at the end of video) and allowed to be as natural as possible in a captive way. I visit and he loves it but he is not a pet. he's too dominant and would scratch you if you treated him like a pet. Very dominant character. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@CheetahWhisperer ..oh i know he's not ur pet. I just wrote that, more like ur friend i meant..😅😅..i know hes a breeder n he can be alittle testy...
Always a pleasure to see you and Gab running, pouring to his dad. Wish he could meet his female and dad of cute cubs. You surely could be proud of you Dolph. Gabriel truly loves and trust you. Such a great bound 👍
I know! But it was earned not given... applies to all you encounter in life.

Are you going to let Gabriel breed with the female I’d love to see some baby Gabriel’s
If the female decides! Right now no female will allow him to mate. Female cheetahs hold the key.
Gaby babies?
@@RXdash78 I wish and trying to arrange it, but females decide and I may have to place Gabe on loan to a different qualified cheetah project.
@@CheetahWhisperer is there scientific reasons why females are rejecting him? do they instinctively know he's not ready for example?
@@soulfulspec ALL kind of reasons, not for logical reasons even, like us humans. Color could be wrong, smell, size, looks, walk anything, but mostly a female cheetah rejects a male because too aggressive and scared them or the best scientific studies show the males smell is too close to their own DNA and gets rejected. We make sure very distant genetic mixes are paired before allowing breeding. I've seen brothers get very excited about their mom and want to mate. But that is how cheetahs survived the last Ice Age too. As for Gabriel and this female he likes, I think he was too aggressive at first and didn't like her until she went into 'heat' then he loved her smell and he never showed mean aggression again, but males DO bluster and show off by charging at times or running past a female along the fence to impress them or just show off or entertain themselves. Males can be very aggressive toward themselves if not brothers (not always) but far less aggressive to any females. This female of Gabe's actually allowed another male to mount her that did not show any aggression towards her but they did not succeed in cubs. Interestingly, this other male that tried mating with Gabes girl was accidently together in a common area and he jumped on her; trying to mate but she was not ready and a scuffle ensued. From then on, thes female was impressed and liked him. Aggression is what wild male cheetahs show at times to impress a female and it works... shows the female that the male is worthy, a fighter, strong and will produce strong cubs. All instinctive but you get the point.
Gabe is a "Gals before Pals" kind of guy haha.
Cheetahs have become one of my favorite animals of all time! I have always loved them and felt connected with them but even more so now.
THey are wonderful in captivity and the wild. They are generally the same, but a wild one will not trust someone it does not know. It would take a long time to do so. A really cool South African videographer embedded himself with a wild female with cubs and after some months, was able to connect with the cubs and the mom. Kim Wolhuter.
I always love your videos. Thank you for sharing.
Super glad you do! Abi and her cubs are next!
Hope you've been doing well out there, Dolph. Been watching you for years, and SOMEHOW forgot to sub. Fixed that today. You helped the Cheetos become my favorite animal on earth- I love talking about them with people, from their less aggressive nature to the wonders of convergent evolution. Cheers.
Thanks!
Me: Bros before Hoes. Gabriel: I politely disagree, sir.
Gabriel after seeing a female he likes: "Well hello there pretty Meawma" (i sorta took dat from Johnny Bravo but modified it)
That was GOOD!
You're a good wingman, Dolph. =~[.]^=

Omg that’s such a beautiful sound 😲😍
Loved cheetah purrs and their 'cackle' for a female is interesting. The female will cackle back if she likes the male.
Gabriel is a big dude!

Love your videos, I love Gabriel!😍😍 I laughed so hard, when he growled at you when you reached for his food. Every sound a cheetah makes is just too cute!
HAhah! Gerrrrrrr....
Cute!
It...tis. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I believe Gabriel is a retired breeding cheetah that never had little ones. I remember a video Dolph did awhile back where he stated that. Cheetah reproduction is a very finicky thing. Extremely hard to breed in captivity!
Semi-retired. He is 9 and still viable. I tested him 2 years ago and can breed. But the female selects and so far no female likes him. I will keep trying...
@@CheetahWhisperer Interesting fact, is it because of his age that he is not being selected ?
I believe the scientific term for Flehmen response is actually Stinky Face.
Cheetahs LOVE stinky stuff.
5:04 *Alright need to change my shorts*
I hope Gabriel gets his girl. In my earlier years I was dated by someone In was totally made about and found it hard to eat when I was around him. What a beautiful episode.
So glad you enjoyed watching Gabriel and his antics over females food and his friend... me. I just love him.
Hey Dolph, great vid ! Do you know if only the female cheetahs hunt just like the female lionesses do ? Or male cheetahs do also hunt ? BTW Gabe is a good boy , as always !!!
Thx for watching! Cheetah females live mostly solitary lives. 99.5% They only visit the males to breed, then they run off and raise the cubs themselves. Tough life. The males have it better in that they form coalitions of brothers and sometimes unrelated males and even a female sister on occasion! But the sister or female leaves once mature. Luv Good Boy Gabe.
You have the coolest job EVER! 😻
woah
:)
I love Cheetahs 🐆
Thank you for your videos! I will be staying in Somerset West this December for a few weeks and would like to visit the Cheetah Outreach Trust. Do you still work there, do I need to make a reservation?
Ahh I know of Cheetah Outreach. Met the owner long ago. But no, I have my cheetahs cared for at www.runningwildconservation.org. You are welcome to volunteer there. I am not part of that program, and just visit about twice a year to care for Gabe, Abi and her cubs. One day I'll have my own private project.
Hello Dolph, how is your sanctuary building coming along?
Not great. I'm still paying for space from another project to house my cheetahs. Maybe in 2 years.
@@CheetahWhisperer Sorry the hear that. Keep up the good work.
Well it would seem that male cheetahs are a lot like human males than 🤣!
Yup. We all want that 'something' and getting it is the game of life we play.
Cheetahs seem more affectionate then most housecats
Dolph, what's your opinion on cheetah reintroduction program in India? Do you support it or a bit more skeptical about it?
I like the concept but not sure about the delivery and chances of success. Too many variables that I don't know about and even these cheetahs may or maynot be prepared for. They will be competing with a predator and prey they are not adapted for; tigers and different larger prey; different terrain and climate, mass human population, and their makeup is questionable. I watched Modi's video and saw a female and some males. Lots of questions for me. Are they all related? What is composition of males to females? I assume they are not related, but the females need separated from all of them like in nature (females are solitary and don't visit males until ready to breed). You don't want unrelated males mixed with females until ready to mate. THey could become familiar and not breed because they are friends. Males and females prefer unfamiliar NEW partners and that is how to stimulate breeding (like in captivity where a loaner adult is brought to a breeding project to stimulate breeding). I hope they have additional breeding individuals to arrive later to create a self containing population, but have my doubts about it. It looked more like a photo op for prestige rather than conservation. Hope I am wrong, but it will be very tough for these cheetahs to survive and thrive in my view unless they have their own large reserve where they won't have to compete with all the other predators that have 75 years ahead of them (how long extinct from India). The African Cheetah is not the Indian Cheetah subspecies, so adaptation is missing due to adapting on another continent. I do hope and prey they prosper... The same sense I do for my project which is happening! My female had (2) cubs born in captpvity.
Reminds me of being a teenager
Gabriël is sutch a cuty and funy cheetah and iam asking myself where is he located running wild cheetah experience or somwhere else? (If your not comfortable with teling me that ok)
All good. He and my other cheetahs Abi mom and the cubs are cared for at Running Wild Conservation when I'm not there. Their website. www.runningwildconservation.org.
@@CheetahWhisperer ah ok good to know for when iam older so i know where to go if i want to see gabriël with my own eyes
Gabriel's kittens when? He's part of a breeding program, right?
Na, it is a hope. He mated once before with another cheetah female but no cubs. These next two years are the most important for him and he may or may not. We shall see. The female cheetah decides and this one he likes, growls at him so they were not paired.
everyone asked, i must too, are you going to allow them come together when the female is more keen on it or is it still harmful in other ways?
The female cheetahs decides and so far after several heats, she growls at Gabriel so they were never allowed to meet. If both male a female agree and friendly, then a safe encounter can happen, otherwise one or both may get injured or killed from fighting/biting.
Would be viral if you have Louis CK feeding these cheetus.
How do I get a job like this?
I volunteered 1st, but I don't work there. I have another job that pays for my cheetahs. www.runningwildconservation.org
Would he be friends with me? how much time would he take to start to know me?
Yes, but not like with me who he knows very well. He can be friendly and mostly is because he enjoys breaks in his day.
Do you ever allow the Cheetahs to breed? It must be very frustrating for them to know there is a female in heat close by and they cannot breed.
The main purpose of my cheetahs and the project where he is cared for is to breed cheetahs to train for release. It is why he is there but no cheetah will breed with him so far and the owners of the females is worried Gabriel will injure them. He can be aggressive. I will decide Gabe's breeding fate this year and may place him on loan at a different quality project so he can produce cubs... To the point about the 'frustration'... isn't the way of this world. How many of us get what we want... out of trillions of the living here? Granted Gabriel is captive but he'd probably be dead by now if wild. He lives and much of his life driven by instincts like most all of us on this planet have. I think it is better to be awake and wanting something more in this life than to give up and sleep your days doing nothing. I think Gabriel got to sense something rare for his captive condition, the interest in a female. He's mated before with a different female but no cubs. How many living beings never find that 'someone'? It's too enumerable to count. I consider Gabriel's pursuits as an enrichment. He does what a male cheetah is programed to do, like one of us who pursue our interest. Gabriel awoke from his instinctive slumber. He has something else to get up and think about. When the heats are over, the wanting is less but he remembers her and follows her along the fence. Sometimes she is taken away and another female next to him and other cheetahs. It also promotes and stimulates other male and female cheetahs to 'get involved'. A female cheetah in heat can induce another female in heat and that is the purpose of a project like this who's goal is to breed cheetahs, raise cubs for release into a wild.
@@CheetahWhisperer I didn’t mean anything negative with my comment although I could have worded it better. Of course Gabe is in the best hands possible and you all know best. I know nothing about Cheetahs. I just a silly old woman who happens to love cats big and small. Thank you for the education and I truly am sorry if I offended you with my comment.
@@irenejerzygirl27v18 I responded with my opinion about yours. Nothing more to read into it. Was not emotion, just opinion. Only Gabriel knows how he feels but he seems real happy.

Thanks for watching and commenting!
Do breed them? If not why don't you "fix" them?
Yes, the main purpose of this project is to breed cheetahs for training and release. Gabriel has bred before but the female did not produce cubs.
Gabriel got no rizz
So his girlfriend is coming over?
:( Naww... she does not like him, growls and swats through the fence at him. He LOVES her though... it won't be her.
Soooo, like humans then? :p
I want to know the reasoning behind declawing a big cat, I understand it's safer to be around them, doesn't it cause health issues for them??
For any cat someone possess, there is no reason to declaw them. The only reason people do is self indulging to prevent injury to themselves or property. In most cases, people should not own a BIG cat. To declaw is not natural, painful, may cause permanent disability, and not allow them to defend themselves. In the example of cheetahs, if they don't have proper space and terrain to walk, exercise and wear down the ever growing claws, their claws continue to grow and became a problem. Rocky, sandy, hard terrain helps naturally wear down claws that naturally grow continually. Having trees to scratch on helps as well. A lot of captive cheetahs don't have the space, terrain, or trees required to wear down their claws and so they need trimmed occasionally. Either when sedated for checkups or if extremely tamed and trusting of their owners.
I hope Gabe is accepted by the female, I kind of feel bad for him.
Na, she growls at him. But Gabe did have a female at another project that allowed him to mate but no cubs. I had Gabriel tested for sperm viability after that and he is OK! Its the female who has egg production issues.
why does he go for females before food though/
:) Many mammals and other animals of this world have reproduction on their mind over other instincts like hunger and thirst. Some insects and other animals like salmon die once they have bred. To breed is the main purpose in life for 'Life'. It is this way to keep a species from extinction. If the drive to reproduce was at the bottom of the instincts, lazy animals would not want to breed and die out. Cheetahs like Gabriel will have breeding on their mind FIRST by design so they have the best chance of passing on their genes so they can pass on their legacy. It is instinctive and not taught.
@@CheetahWhisperer I understand now. Thank you.
@@CheetahWhisperer it has nothing to do with personality and is just instinct. Can I ask why the female cheetahs wasnt acting the same way of being extremely eager and ettentive at the prospect of breeding?
@@WolfStarsDream So good you question things! Always question, that way you learn and become educated and can formulate your own answers through knowledge gathered. Like us humans, we have selective attraction to someone. It can be based on anything, and not necessarily objective or subjective and could be instinctive or simply based on the individual's likes or dislikes. As for a female cheetah, she selects the mate and if the color is off, he's not bold or aggressive enough, or too aggressive or maybe timid she likes, or doesn't walk right, smell right, or not big enough or small enough, she will reject or accept him. In Gabe's case, it might be the female does not like to be mounted and then she may not allow any male to mate with her. This female did allow one very friendly male to mount her but it was not successful as she kept pulling away. There was a study done about female cheetahs selective processes and it showed how females prefer the smell of the DNA of a male that is farthest distant from their own DNA smell. That helps assure genetic diversity. Maybe Gabriel was too close to her own lineage, but in the International Stud book of cheetahs, Gabriel is distant from her genetically. Male cheetahs seem to be ready to mate with any female regardless of anything. I've seen sons get very horney over their mother, wanting to mate. It is how they survived the last Ice Age... in-breeding. Maybe that is a male cheetahs survival trait.
gabriel is name of angel you can not name animal or creature it is sin (haram)
Only thing that's a sin is evangelical false prophets preaching bullshit. No sane God would not allow you not to name an animal, that's absolute bullshit, humans have befriended foxes and wolves long before false prophets started warping the words of god.
There are dozens if not 100s of subcultures and religions in this world. Not here to debate culture and religion, just teach about cheetah conservation, but in many other cultures and religions, the name Gabriel is just a name. The original owner of Gabriel gave him his name and was based after a Christian faith where it is not an offense to do so. Like many people of Christianity named Jesus. And we are all animals... That is how we are classified and mostly alike biologically to the rest of the Animal world. Glad you watched the video and take care...
Great point we are animals…
Hello Dolph ! I have an idea for your project that I have kept in my mind for too long. I know this is something that might take a little work for you but I hope to see your cheetahs running one day. Let me explain. Dolph, you told us about all the things your cheetahs do ; sleep, eat, play, cuddle and more. But you forgot to talk to us and show us what they were born to do : RUNNING FAST ! Don't take this the wrong way, I know that caring for and investing in these animals takes a lot of work and time. So here is the idea, you could set up a lure racing machine on your land but not for greyhounds but for your cheetahs ! There are solutions that are not (very) expensive and are easy to install. Like this little system called "BullX Deluxe 24v Lure Machine" that goes up to 90 mph : www.bull-x.co.uk/deluxe-machine.html I have see on youtube many zoos whit cheetahs already using this systems. It's obvious that running for cheetahs is essential for their physical and mental health. Hope you find this post interesting. Well, regards to you and your coalition. :)
My project remains in its infancy. I have Gabriel, Abi and her two cubs now and the male cub is owned by another. I don't have enough funds to form my own project so they are kept at another cheetah project for care. It means I can't do the things I want as I have to work to maintain them. This project they are at has this zip-line for exercise and is used by their trained cheetahs, but Gabriel is not one to chase things and Abi cannot due to her bad hip, BUT I will ask for Kimi (my female cub 3 months old) to start using it. I will be there sometime in the future and will film Kimi using the zip-line and post here. Since I only have two females now, I plan on having Kimi become a breeder rather than released, but I need to train my cheetahs to hunt and keep fit so this helps. Gabriel has certain congenital handicaps (bad spine) where he cannot be released and should not run much either. They all have one hectare (about 1.5acres) per cheetah to walk, run, hide if they so desire on their own. It is hilly terrain so forces exercise when they pace about. It helps but not preparing them for release so this zip line and actual live hunts helps.
I knew that Gabriel and Abi had health problems related to their backs, they are like me... lol But to exercise the cubs, as you said, that could be a very good thing. Anyway, glad to know that your cheetahs already have access to a zip-line in the other project, it seemed obvious. Besides, I hope the two little cubs are doing well, it's great for Abi! And I can't wait to see little Kimi run! ^^
