I've left Gabriel to express his behaviors naturally and only trained him to come when called and learn his name. I wanted him to to natural as possible as a captive breeding cheetah. But, I was charmed by his 'rubbning' behavior, like a house cat. So, I started to re-enforce the behavior to help our bonding and eventual training for future basic health care, like examining his paws. Gabriel would rub between the fence all the time and so I wanted to see if he could be encourage and trained to rub face-to-face. I had some success and here it is! in 4K in most clips.
Eventually, I want all my animals to allow basic healthcare examination. It can be done quite easily with some basic operant conditioning, where the animal chooses to do a behavior you want. Some examples of the things I wish to train my animals in my care is to allow me to examine their bodies, to include inside their mouths, between their toes, in their ears, and accept needle injections so I can administer medication, give vaccinations, and draw blood WITHOUT sedation. Sedation drugs are very dangerous and damaging to cheetahs or any animal. Bad reactions can occur and lasting damage to their immune systems and kidneys. I don't like it and will do everything in my power to avoid sedations.
Gabriel and I only get about 6 weeks a year to re-acquaint. I don't have the best trust and relationship I need with him to train and get the results I wanted to train him for simple medical examinations. I hope to change that for future cheetahs and animals I have, but it requires me to have my project in order, which I do not... yet.
Thanks for watching!

I feel like you give him the respect and love he deserves, while still making sure he’s taken care of and not overly “domesticated” as others might do with such a large and adorable cat. Well done.

    • I love when animals sniff things. Very cute to me for some reason. I make fun of my dogs by pretending to sniff things, mimicking the sound by blowing air from my mouth at a rhythmic sniff and having my lower lip touching my bottom teeth as the air flows through (makes a perfect dog or cheetah sniff) and they laugh... wag tail, watch me with wide open eyes, run to me and try stopping me and shocked about what I'm doing. then run around. I love connecting with animals.

    • My dear friend, the bible tells us some AMAZING things about Paradise. The Lord Jesus Christ promises to make mansions for us in Heaven John 14:2. John 14:2 KJV [2] In my Father’s house(Heaven) are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. {I go to prepare a place for you}. I don't know about you but i wanna have a Mansion in Heaven! If you like cheetah's a lot then your mansion will probabbly be built in a place in Heaven where there's many cheetah's. Also, the bible promises us that Heaven will be better than we can EVER IMAGINE!!!! 1 Corinthians 2:9 [9] But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. {Eye hath not seen} This means that if you have seen something, it's not worthy to be compared with what you're gonna see in Heaven! {nor ear heard} This means 2 things, 1st That if you heard something, it's not worthy to be compared with the sounds you're gonna hear in Heaven! And 2nd It means that if you heard a spoken description of something, it's not worthy to be compared with what is in Heaven! {neither have entered into the heart of man} This means that Heaven is better than we can ever imagine, in fact, the bible tells us that God is able to do EXCEEDING ABUNDANLTY BEYOND what we could EVER ask think or imagine. That's beautiful!!! Even if you're an atheist/agnostic it's still pretty amazing to think about this concept in the bible. There are MANY more scriptures about Heaven and what awaits the bible-believer, but this comment would be far too long i think. God bless you!!!😁💜🔥

    • Right... We're all wild. People define wild versus tame versus domesticated a bit differently. For instance, domesticated farm animals and pets were artificially (by humans) engineered for some purpose. You can argue that 'man' is a wild animal that cross breed other species for it's benefit and these animals lost a lot of their wild bred adaptations. But a dog and cat and cattle are still similar to wolves, wild cats and wild ungulates. But a cheetah is only tame and still wild for now, until one day people start breeding not for the wild sake but for domestication. Then you loose the wild in them and get something else closer to domesticated animal. A huge debate can erryot from what is wild, tame and domesticated and the ethical questions about it. I'm sure the debate goes on even now online and in environmental and animal husbandry and pet trade business now.

    • YES. One day I will do a video about the breeding game of cheetahs. Both males and females make that sound you heard! The cackle sound.

    • It would be nice. But you can make it happen if you save money and time and visit a nice cheetah project in South Africa. Running wild conservation has a great volunteer program.

  • How would you like a big cat catnip toy, Gabriel size?

    • HA I tried some cat nip with Gabe and others and they didn't care. Lessoned learned was to use more, fresh catnip. I may try again with Gabriel again. kzhead.info/sun/jbaqnLeqaIumZIU/bejne.html

  • What would happen if you accidently stepped on its tail? Would it attack and try to kill you?

    • He screals! It happened long ago and that is all he did. One time I had my shoe stepping on his back foot and he looked back there and began growling a bit. I moved my foot when I saw it. He can react badly to pain and that is why training for discomfort is important when young or even old. That is how you prepare a captive animal to accept a needle... some discomfort/reward training and it also helps them not overreact to pain that accidently happens to them by YOU!

    • Gabe has a nice concrete water dam to drink from, but in the wild, male cheetahs don't ever live with the females they breed with. Cheetah moms live solitary lives. Some brother and sister cheetahs can live together in captivity but in the wild they always go their separate ways... To eventually find a suitable mate other than brothers. So Gabe can have a girlfriend but only if she wants to breed for a week and then runs away and must be separated to develope cubs in womb, give birth and raise these cubs in captivity or in the wild.
