I rebuilt a wrecked Audi RS6 that i bought from auction and then sent it all the way to America to take part in the car show SEMA. But moments into driving the RS6 in LA the engine seized, so now we have to find out why and start rebuilding this car out in the US.

If it started to knock, then the ECU should have detected that and reduced the ignition advance almost instantaneously.

After watching this video, I am never... E V E R buying an Audi. That V8 looks like all my worst nightmares on a car combined into one gigantic clusterfuck of a mechanical disaster just waiting to happen and all it took to blow it up was some shit fuel.
I don’t know if anyone else is the same but when I’m watching I check how long left every few mins because I just don’t want the video to end 😢 Hopefully won’t be too expensive Matt 🤞

If there is a catastrophe, then it is even better for the channel (more viewers = more money). That is how this business works. Many of Mat's projects wouldn't be probably worth doing it without money from KZhead.

Love the RS6, but wow is that engine such a crazy design to work on. As soon as I saw the cylinders I thought…yeah I know what that is. No good…. Can’t wait to see it fixed
Sadly this is all german cars... the tech is nice but if you work on your own stuff it's a lot nicer to pop the hood on a ford/chevy and actually be able to SEE the motor
@@joshb8209People do work on modern German "premium" cars here in Europe a lot. It's all sort of logical just tight and fiddly. You make fixing these sound like rocket science 🙄
@@joshb8209 It has nothing to do with the origin of the car. This is what you get when you want to get crazy amounts of power out of a combustion engine while at the same time keep emissions as low as possible. But just get a Ford model T and you can wrench every problem away

My heart goes out to you , that is a massive engine. And Remember an electric motor only has 3 moving parts😮 I have learned a valuable lesson about fuel hopefully it will help some of us not get caught out by this.

well it's not really totaled. They just need to restore engine block and a new engine head and it should be fine.
Yeah, but what would getting upset change? It happened, the engine's buggered so now the only way out is to fix it/replace and implement changes for future so it doesn't happen again.

@@Triggerboy78 may be ugly to you but your preference isn’t the preference of everybody. And a simple mistake of wrong fuel? It wasn’t like he rebuilt the engine, did it wrong and then blew up. I think you shouldn’t get so “triggered” no one is forcing you click on this video, if you don’t like it do yourself a favour and stop watching

Maybe Mat You can now a build an high performance engine like DDE f12 for RS6 with all custom engine parts like pistons and all the stuff who know maybe converting it into a full race car with pre designed roll cage like michel essa's drift taxi cause i have never seen an Audi RS6 race car🙌🙌🙌🙌

Hey Mat, every modern Engine have Knocking Sensors. If you put bad fuel like 95 Octane in the Tank, the Car automatically change the Ingition for the Conditions. The Tuner has to recalibrate the Maps for that. But if you turn Off the Knocking System or Component Protection the Car will do everytime the same Performance also with bad Fuel. Otherwise your Engine Pistons or other Components can be broken like in your Video. Greetings from Germany ✌🏻

I also posted something similar. It wasn't just the fuel, as the knock sensor would have protected the engine from pre--ignition. Something probably happened during the remap that bypassed that safety. 100% user error.
Exactly..a very bad tuner is the cause, not just the fuel.
Fair play man , when faced with a major problem you all greet it with smiles and laughs. 😁 Freddie really is a gem coming to the rescue and letting you use his workshop. You did more than well to get it to Sema , i saw it in hard up garages coverage last week.

So, so very sorry to see this issue, and that you are all having to deal with it on the other side of the world. It's great that Freddy is able to help you with his shop, the irony is that you are surrounded by two other buggered Audi R8's. I am glad you are able to get it sorted, and look forward to the next steps. It is also a big lesson for all of us about cheap gas in a high performance motor. It’s so obvious to me, that Mat, as so many of us, have watched the “real” top gear lads: Jeremy, James and Richard for so many years. Mat drops some lingo and phrases every ones In a while. And I love it!

It's unfortunate that this is going to be so expensive to fix, but I feel like these are the painful lessons about modification / tuning that are worth learning as you go. Hope you can get this beast back on the road for minimal outlay!
An expensive fix that I feel like the tuner should have warn them about or built into the tune. Maybe the tuner told them, not sure I would trust them.

I have a 2017 Audi S7, same motor and it is a PITA to work on.... the most cramped engine bay ive ever seen. To change plugs is a 4 hr nightmare! And to watch you guys rip that motor out and tear into it was impressive lol...Love watching you and your dad !

Never thought you could get a hole in your engine block if you use lower octane fuel after remap. This channel turns into a car documentary. Keep up the good work!
Normally you shouldn't, unless the tuner disabled the knock sensor and other engine protection systems to make it easier to map. It could very well still be down to a poor re-map
