  • 7G tronic gearbox takes blueish green 722.9+ ATF fluid. You can drain the torque converter if you unbolt the electric pump for the start stop lubrication. (if it has it). You will see a rubber grommet. Take it out and spin the torque converter with a screw driver until you see the little drain bolt. Remove the little bolt and hang sometype of little hook on it so air can get easily in the torque converter to drain it completely. Almost all of the 722.9 gearboxes you can drain the torque converter. When refilling put 9 ish liters in the gearbox. Run it to around 40°C. Let it drain till it begins to have a flow with bubbles. Than you can seal it back up. MB 236.15 ATF fluid for 722.9+. Not sure about the standard 722.9 ALWAYS use new bolts for the transmission oil pan. Torque specs 10nm for torque converter. 4nm and 90° + 90° for the oil pan. 22nm for the drain plug.

His energy, humor, awareness, the way he incorporates and interacts in general, adapting to everything thrown his way to deal with any situation he's, full of charisma wisdom and knowledge, and I could honestly keep going on and on no problem but instead I'll just say you have such a great man as your father, take care of him he must be protected at all costs. • Good video guys. I've got a C63 and I'm going to be doing a transmission service in a few weeks. Have you swapped the injectors out on yours? There's a common issue where an injector can fail in the open position and hydrolock the engine. So a lot of people swap them out as a precaution. I changed mine this week. Glad I did, lots of carbon build up on the old ones and my cars only done about 35000 miles. It's's quite an easy job and bosch OEM injectors are not very expensive. Looking forward to the next video.

  • You can drain the torque converter (there is a rubber cover on the bottom of the bellhousing which exposes a small plug in the torque converter, you may have to rotate the engine to find it, some 722.9 transmissions had drain plugs which were the later trans) do all this at the same time as you change the filter, remove both cooler pipes and blow out the cooler lines as well this will help the convertor drain as well, the little green tube you can actually just knock it into the transmission sump (usually breaks) which will help drain 99% of the oil, I only use the Merc trans oil it's green in colour just quote the VIN to mercedes dealer, I think the manual states a 6 or 7 litre refill, I always get 8 litres, when you refit the filter and the green oil level tube to the sump, simply pump in about 5 liters of oil, start run for 30 seconds, shutoff pump in the remainder of oil, then start run through all forward and reverse gears, then using your diagnostic tool get up the trans oil temp, I think from memory wait until oil temp is at 45 degrees c, shutdown engine and check the level of the trans sump if oil pours out wait until its just dripping, if no oil pours out add more oil until the oil is just dripping out of sump plug hole. Remember the green tube sets the level of the transmission at 45 Degrees C

That drains most of the pan.The standpipe should be replaced after and with same color pipe, there are many colors/ sizes. There definitely should be a super tiny drain plug in the TC as well hard to see bc it's a teeny tiny Allen and you have to rotate engine to find it.

  • Hi Matt love the videos you do and your dad as well. My 1999 ford mustang gt did the same thing as your Mercedes and mine I could get it to drive if I gave it gas right away when I shifted to drive and then it would sound like a manual car taking off and once the oil warmed up then you could stop without it dying. When I pulled the pan off it was the same as yours with a bunch of metal stuff on the magnet and from what we seen it was the torque converter causing it because it was engaging when it wasnt supposed to when was burning the clutch off. I ended up replacing the whole transmission since it had 81,000 on it. Yours might be doing the same thing as my mustang was doing. Also I changed the oil first and filter like your dad did and the trick to change the oil was to disconnect the transmission lines running into the radiator that cools it and start the car which will pump it out and while its doing thaty your pour in the new fluid and when you added the full amount maybe 8 quarts then shut it off and check the level and reconnect the lines. If you have someone helping you then he should be able to see the blue fluid eventually come out once all of the old is out.

  • Mat your Dad made my day! Torque converter clutch is probably stuck on, don't know how or why but it's the only thing that can mechanically link the engine to the final drive. Either faulty TC or TC solenoid.

  • It’s amazing see mat’s dad working. He’s always keeping his smile and laughing at everything. Make the video so much better . Best regards from Brazil 🇧🇷. Wouldn’t you think in translating your videos into Portuguese or at least the subtitles ? I presume there would be a big audience of your content. If you have any interest I can help you with.

  • I work at merc, the reason why that tube is in the sump has number settings and you need a special tool to change turn it to (fill/empty/top up IF this is the gearbox I’m thinking of) On all refiill procedures - with a special pressure pump tool that screws into where the sump bung with the Mercedes software running the oil change procedure. Otherwise you’ve not put the correct amount in and it’s not bled properly. I love Matt and his Dad but maybe try give it to a merc dealer/specialist to fix what you done? All the best keep up the videos😎

    • Really? Maybe don't try giving it to your Mercedes dealership then ... You work for Mercedes, but don't know this is a 7 speed box not a 9 speed box as what you just gave the procedure for! Two totally different boxes with different filling procedures

    • @@MrWolze yeah that’s why I said if it’s what ‘I’m thinking of’😂regardless the refill procedure correct. I worked at merc for 6 months didn’t learn much on the cars😂was a Vauxhall master tech thought going to a big German company may spark my heart in the trade again but it didn’t💀left that trade now gone into aerospace
