  • GOAT WR. He didn't have Randy Moss' leaping ability, Terrell Owens strength, or Odell Beckham body contortionist catches. He just ran perfect routes, sure handed, and was the hardest working WR for his era.

    • It's all footwork, quick cuts, precise route running, timing, hands and great running after the catch...he was simply superb at it, and I have seen no one since who even comes close to Jerry Rice. Jerry didn't have track speed, he had football speed.

    • yeah 40 times can be misleading. Jerry came out of college running 4.6's... BUT when he catches a ball, you never see him get caught from behind.. He runs like a 4.2 with the ball.. 40 times on a track is not the same as game speed with pads on and a ball in your hand.

    • He's clearly overrated. Gloves are nowhere near the gripping power Stickum provides; let alone Stickum and gloves used together. ANY half decent WR with Stickum in his hands can look like an all pro; let alone overrated ass Jerry Rice and his 4.71 40 yard dash time.

      @75erick75@75erick756 жыл бұрын
    • Breezy Brees Because of the use of a banned substance known as stickum. ANY wide receiver with this stuff in his hands will look like an all-pro because their gripping power and catching radius will instantly magnify to greater lengths. If your gripping power and catching radius get that much greater, your ability to run routes and your route tree in general gets that much wider because of the fact that all you need to do is place a few fingers on the ball and the stickum will do the rest of the work. You are literally unguardable because as soon as the ball hits your palms, the ball is essentially yours; making any route you run, and any catch you make all that much easier. I'm not a hater and I do think he's a talented receiver, but the use of stickum taints his legacy to me - immensely.

    • Daniel D How you ask? -Better at route running -Better at reading the zone -Better at gaining yards after the catch -Better at blocking -Better competitiveness -Better longevity When it comes to actual football skill, Moss only did ONE thing better than Rice....catch the deep ball. Rice was better at EVERY other aspect of playing wide receiver. This is why Rice was still kicking ass at age 40 while Moss was washed up by age 33 when he lost half a step. Without his athletic edge he frankly was just another guy. There is a huge difference between being a better athlete (Moss) and being the better football player (Rice) Rice>>>>>>>>>>>>>Moss. By EVERY objective standard possible. -

  • I was there for two of these plays. @2:50 against the Lions and @4:35 vs the Broncos. My father brought me back to Detroit every Thanksgiving to visit family and we would attend the Lion’s games. I think I was 15 at the time. My home team, the 49ers, just happen to play the Lion’s that year. I had a perfect view of Rice’s catch, I was sitting right next to the end zone, and you could see his knee just almost touch the ground, but he got up and kept on running and no one was even near him. It was beautiful….I was there for the Bronco game as well. They retired Montana’s number that night. Eddie D was there and everything. Rice just returned from being injured at the beginning of the year by Warren Sapp in the opening game vs the Bucs. Rice came back, got a TD and was out again. No one knew how serious it was going to be though. We thought he would be right back. That was also the game Bill Romanowski spit in JJ Stokes face. Niners won though. We went downtown SF to celebrate and my buddy made a u-turn right down Columbus st and a bicyclist smashed right into us; totally my friends fault. My friend begged him not to call the cops and gave him all the money in his wallet. The bicyclist was beyond cool and just took the money. Then we went to the Mitchell Brothers strip club and had fun all night long.
