  • In his first two years in the NFL, Moss helped Randall Cunningham and Jeff George - both on journeymen’s stints in Minnesota after being relegated to bench duty at their previous clubs - have the best years of their careers. From 2000 to 2004 Moss helped make Daunte Culpepper an All Pro. After Moss’s departure, Culpepper struggled to stay a starter in the NFL, ultimately playing five more years for four different teams, with a combined record of 5-22. In 2005, Moss went to Oakland, where he underperformed for a round-robin of QBs. Then, in 2007, he helped Tom Brady break the all-time passing TD record for New England (at the time, such gaudy passing stats were uncharacteristic for Brady). In 2009 he helped Matt Cassel guide New England to a surprising 11-5 record (and Cassel’s best season to-date) with Brady injured. In 2010, Bill Belichick dumped Moss in a shocking move, after which - despite briefly teaming up with Brett Favre - Moss bounced around on his way out of football, seemingly for good. In 2012, he returned to play for the San Francisco 49ers, where he was relegated largely to role-playing and decoy duty. Whether Moss is at all responsible or not, it’s worth noting that Alex Smith and Colin Kaepernick both had their best statistical seasons with Moss in the rotation that year. He made every single QB he played with significantly better: photos.app.goo.gl/1oxc70kIatGL3nxo2

  • It shows how good Moss was to still be so dominant 9 years into his career with New England, because he noticeably lost speed by his 5th-6th year, due to nagging injuries or what not. The separation he had in those 98-2000 highlights was insane. By 2004 or whenever the Vikings dealt him, you almost could live with it because he didn't seem like the same player. You can see it in the highlights.. guys in that later period would catch up to him, where as in some of the 98 and 99 highlights out there, he just gained separation after the catch almost immediately. He was still crazy fast, but he was like a 4.20 early, a 4.35 in the middle years, and about a 4.4 at the end.

    • When I watch Randy highlights I usually think many of his best catches are him having to wait and win the jump because they under threw him. As for your years and speeds, that sideline catch obviously falls in the early zone, that was ridiculous. They had angle, a mini juke, afterburner and he is in. Just nuts.

    • @@thepubknight6144 you are exactly right! people always say moss wasn’t on great teams…”if he played on the teams rice played”…but when you actually break it down, he played on better teams than rice had…that Vikings team went 15-1. The patriots went 16-0. moss played on historically great teams. He played with a goat coach, goat QB, on a goat team. Rice was never on a team that won 15 games. So, how did moss play in the playoffs when he was on a historically great team? In 5 playoff games, moss caught 17 catches, 242 yards, and 3TDs (that averages out to 3 catches a game for 48 yards). So how can anyone say moss was unstoppable? When he faced playoff defenses on historically great offensive teams, he was impotent. He was a nonfactor. Wasn’t even the best receiver on his team.

Wes welker in those 3 games was 19 catches 168 yards and 1 TD. Defenses took away the deep ball, and moss was impotent. It’s the same reason moss was done as a player in his early 30s. • His hands on the deep ball are just unreal. Size speed jumping all that is amazing really, But there's been big fast athletic guys before and there will be others but on those super deep throws you see so many wide outs sort of run "at" the ball run near the ball and it clang on the ground randy really was able to consistently get in position and catch those deep speed rockets. So rare.
