  • The last 19 on the list were all offensive players, and that's okay. Also, the entire legendary 2015 Broncos defense was full of Hall of Famers, Pro Bowlers, and studs, and that's okay too. But objectively, Von Miller's performance against a 17-1, MVP QB might be the only reason Denver wasn't blown out, and even won the game. That was as close to dominance as a defensive player will ever be on the biggest stage.

    • Completely agree with you, the man won them that SB. Von Miller and JJ Watt (who unfortunately never got to the big stage) are the most recent defensive players who, generally speaking, simply don't get enough love despite the fact teams actually had to game plan against them for years - in much the same way they famously had to do it against Ray Lewis and Ed Reed (both absolute legends in their own right at their respective positions ofc...)

  • I'm confused as to how Eli Manning is at 34 (30-40, 296 yds, 1TD plus game winning drive with one of the most gorgeous throws ever to Manningham) is outranked by Brady at 33 (16-27, 145 yds, 1TD plus his own game winning drive). I get that Brady is considered the GOAT by many, but this particular game was utterly pedestrian outside of that game winning drive.

    @minecraftphenom0892@minecraftphenom0892 Жыл бұрын
    • Simple. He was lucky to be 34. Below average Eli was carried by the defense through both postseasons. The defense gave up an average of 15.1 points/game, no game over 20 points, and an opposing passer rating of a mere 74. And Eli still barely managed to win on last second plays despite multiple pro bowl QBs having what may have been their worst game of the year. The defense didn't allow more than 20, despite those same teams putting up 45, 31, 35, 38, 28, and 37 points against the Giants in the regular season in mostly blowouts. Overall, Eli scored less in the postseason and was hailed as the hero. To put this in perspective, with what Eli did in those "SB runs", if the opposing teams just put up their average points, Eli goes 2-6. He beats the Bucs by less than a point and the '11 Packers by 2. That's it. 8 straight playoff teams that were 13 points below their season average. And Eli still barely managed to win 5/8 games. And 2 of those "Eli wins" were overtime games in which Eli literally did nothing on the game winning drive, but he is given all the credit for the win. Eli deserved neither MPV. Someone on the defense did both times. Without the defense doing what they did, Eli's points in the SB of 17 and 19 are blowouts.

    • It's hard to pick out an individual in some scenarios. Offensive line play is so interdependent, same with defense. How many Super Bowls were won by a dominant defensive line, but you can't really pick out an individual cause they just caused constant pressure. The NY Giants come to mind beating NE twice.

  • They put too much emphasis on stats over the eye test. Lots of these players (especially quarterbacks) had great stats but didn't have to do much and made very few difficult throws. Aaron Rodgers in 2010 had a top 5 performance ever from the eye test in my opinion, although I agree with Young being put #1 and in the Super Bowl it's fair that lots of non-quarterbacks win, because over half of all Super Bowls have been ugly blowouts, with many of them having sloppy play. Because of this people shouldn't complain about defensive players not getting recognized. Of course, a lot of the time a quarterback gets it by default for playing okay at the most important position.
