He was tweeting live from NYC while everybody was waiting for him to show up. Funny thing was nobody at the event was either surprised or even disappointed.

  • Stunned Rashaan Salaam wasn't on the list. He was an absolute monster for Colorado in 1994, running away with over 2000 yards and the Heisman Trophy that year. He was drafted by the Bears the following year, but the workload from his time at CU (and playing almost all his games on artifical concrete...er turf) led to injuries and he only stayed in the league for two years (I think). Rest in peace.

  • Jason White went undrafted due to injuries. He missed two years due to knee issues and got a sixth year of eligibility after winning the Heisman due to medical hardship. Though the Titans signed him as a free agent, White retired to avoid further knee injuries.

    @sirstewartwallace3917@sirstewartwallace39174 ай бұрын
    • Kansas City also gave Jason a workout as a courtesy to see if there was potential, but his knees did not give him the mobility he would need to withstand the rigors of the NFL. He can't be categorized with the worst Heisman, that should go to Johnny "Football." Jason was and remains a leader in his home town and a credit to the Oklahoma Sooners.

    @nascarsteve@nascarsteve4 ай бұрын
    • Agreed and this deserves more elaboration. Miami in the 90s was what 'Bama is today and Torretta was an example of giving the Heisman by default to the quarterback of the best team in the nation. Other players like Marshall Faulk, Charlie Ward, and even Drew Bledsoe were all better candidates for the trophy than Torretta, but the media had such a hard-on for the Hurricanes that they basically dictated the result without regard to the players' merits.

Stats in college can be other-worldly, and many fans and some owners become enamored with some Heisman winning college QBs. The NFL-ready QBs are not always crazy successful, statistically in college, while just about every Heisman winning QBs are.

His rights were sold by the Eagles to his hometown Bears, but the Bears could not come to terms with his salary demands. Though he made a fine living as a successful businessman, making higher salaries than he ever could in the very low paying NFL of the 1930s, later in life he expressed regret at not taking George Halas' offer and playing in the NFL.
