Lyrics
Standing now
Calling all the people here to see the show
Calling for my demons now to let me go
I need something, give me something wonderful
I believe
She won't take me somewhere I'm not supposed to be
You can't steal the things that god has given me
No more pain and no more shame and misery
You can't take me down
You can't break me down
You can't take me down
You can't take me down
You can't break me down
You can't take me down
Love and hate
How much more are we supposed to tolerate
Can't you see there's more to me than my mistakes
Sometimes I get this feeling - makes me hesitate
I believe
She won't take me somewhere I'm not supposed to be
You can't steal the things that god has given me
No more pain and no more shame and misery
You can't take me down
You can't break me down
You can't take me down
You can't break me down
You can't take me down
You can't break me down
I can see a place of trouble
And I'm on the verge
For the love of everybody
I need something more
Now I feel some days of trouble
I'm in the house of war
For the love of everybody
Look behind the wall
Standing now
Calling all the people here to see the show
Calling for my demons now to let me go
I need something, give me something wonderful

    • Well, I love you for sharing about your baby dancing inside! I was unable to conceive, likely due to a rape decades ago, and I have always had some sorrow about never feeling that life inside.... but the thought of your baby rocking along with Kiwanuka helps me feel it along with you, so, thanks :) I wish you and your child all the joy your hearts can hold. My adoptive son is now 35, and the journey with him has been pure joy - even the rough bits. So enjoy, enjoy the adventure of you and your child's lives....even the rough bits! :) Wishing you much, much love. Thank you.

  • Yesterday, I decided to go for a lunch with my son, didn´t feel like it really, but dragged my lazy butt to our favorite eat out place anyway. While I was getting my food from a buffet table I heard THIS playing from speakers. I froze immediately. I sat down and started eating, listening... I was in awe. I couldn´t help myself, with mouth full and still chewing, I rushed to cashier´s counter and asked a man behind it who´s music they were playing. A lovely man just smiled and gave me a 10-minute long lecture about this artist I have never heard about before.... how happy I am now I went for that lunch yesterday. I discovered a gem.

      @pianojacq@pianojacq2 жыл бұрын
    • @@MH-gc2hr That's fair, but the truth is compared to the 70's and the 80's there is suspiciously little talent that makes to to any degree of visibility. I was visiting a store in Eastern europe to get some coffee for someone and ended up standing there nailed to the ground to listen to the song. Not a whole lot of music made today has that kind of power.

    • Why would you care whether someone curses or not? Especially why would you not listen to awesome music just because of a word choice?

      @Ninjalectual@Ninjalectual7 жыл бұрын
    • Ninjalectual The music may be awesome but words give you thoughts and that can affect a person. Cursing has a negative effect on the human mind. Combining that with music and instrumental vibration makes it more effective (destructive more to say). Positive poetry and metaphorical lyrics can help you develop and think better. Just senseless cursing on the beat is not very inspirational. Every person is free to choose his or her music. It's just the way I interpret music.

      @Broeske3@Broeske37 жыл бұрын
    • Cappah why are you so mad. This is the music I like. A lot of people don't like Lequid Swords 😉 (I do). Do you judge all these people? Don't hate.

      @Broeske3@Broeske37 жыл бұрын
    • Cappah It's OK to be mad. Maybe my comments hurt your feelings. That was not my purpose. I didn't say that any curse word in a song is bad. What I am talking about is that a lot of music only talks about ass and sex. All day. It's a positive change to hear some music like Michael Kiwanuka. Again this is my choice of music.

      @Broeske3@Broeske37 жыл бұрын
    • You say "cursing has a negative effect on the human mind." Can you cite your source on this? Because I've never heard of any study finding this result. I'm beginning to think you just made that up, because it fits what you *WANT* to believe, rather than fitting how reality *actually is*. This, sir, is how ignorance proliferates.

    • it is by design. it used to be called brainwashing, but now it's just the new normal. Also, people don't appreciate sadness, melancholy, soft, deep emotions that make you look into your soul and ask questions and truly feel reality anymore. Today people want fake shallow things that confirm their status and power, that gives them adrenaline and a sense of dominance over the others. Just like in a prison, the worst and the most violent are in control. Instead of compassion and healing we choose destruction and chaos. It's the inherent violent nature of the evolutionist approach to life. And although the nature of this song is incredible optimistic and beautiful, it probably comes, like all true great art, from pains and shame and misery. And the establishment can't admit that in a world of glamour and virtual happiness. Even if 100 M views say that we're still human.

You may face even worse now that you are out of that system. Being institutionalized has nothing institutionalizing about it in the current prison system. Pick up where you left, complete everything you start. save your time, money and your heart for thing that matters the most, which is you. Only you can pull yourself out of this.

We live in a media world, you got to experience the step from being a kid into adulthood without influences, ofcourse other than the people in prison you were with, people who have made mistakes in their life or that got screwed by others or the law system. But I think in these years you get to know your trueself without influences of perfectionism on social medias. Everything happens for a reason, it might not always be a reason that we understand but it will take us to where we need to go. My bestest advice is, be stronger than your impulses and stick for what is right for and to you.

  • Quite possibly one of the greatest songs ever written. The melody is buttery smooth and his transitions are flawless. Vocals are pitch perfect. There are rare compositions that can transport you to another level, and this one accomplishes this. Bravo.
