  • We listened this song twice at my daughter ‘s funeral. She died -at 24 years- by a car accident in 2016. She was great fan of paolo since his first performance at the roundhouse in london. Now, 7 years later , i listen and cry but she stands near me and whispers in my ear, freedom rain on me... I am 60 years old , this song gives me the power to live on.

    • @@thyowen this is freeman of the land stuff. I was into it about 6 years ago. The belief isn't that it's illegal to use your legal name. I don't know where this guy got that from. The belief is that your birth certificate acts as a strawman of yourself in name, and that is expressed by capitalisation. And that when you defend yourself in court you're defending this strawman that is assigned to you by birth via a birth certificate, which is property of the state. Which means by extention, you're property of the state through this written document. And that if you state yourself as "[first name] of the family [surname]" you're now truly acting on behalf of yourself rather than your strawman. But it really makes no difference to the court. Mainly, because it's a load of hokum. Yes, we are not free. Not in thr truest sense. For civilisations to survive they need to wield power. This means; working, no dodging tax, no claiming property for your own without purchase, and sticking to the laws of the land (both criminal and civil). I despise this. I don't want to hurt others, or steal from them, or even break common law in any other regard. But I don't wish for power to be wielded over myself. But even I know that for the survival of the state all rules must apply equally. You can't allow some people to get away with paying no tax and taking private or publicly owned land/ or property and not others. The 'freemen of the land' think if they use certain ways they can circumnavigate the system to be "free". But that doesn't work in reality. The only thing which would work is anarchy. Meaning; a destruction of the state which requires such things. Which I am in support of. And frankly, I can actually see happening within my life time. (If you can check back in this comment in 5-10 years time. I was wrong)

Music is a passion that if you strive to see the bigger picture rather than commercial bullshit spoonfed to all of us you can see the true message and meaning behind the feelings and ideologies another artist believes in. Music will never die nor will ever be unnoticed by people who understand. Music is like food. Untill you learn how its made you will now understand good from bad. The Great Dictator speech was one of the most intense speeches ever made. Even though it was made for a cinematic approach the sincere reality behind its meaning is still relevant to this day and age. Music is the key to everything.

      @annanimal6@annanimal68 жыл бұрын
    • +Callum Connolly I agree with you in most parts. It could well be his best song as to date, production wise etc. His songs always have a meaning or a message to portray, the best thing is we all portray them differently. Giving the song inner meaning unto ourselves. I agree the quote was a bit of genius and really strips back the song to a level where the quote itself with the music would make it powerful enough, but with the added lyrics and voice gives it no constraints to the power and profound message however you may read the song to be. It is but a piece of art. We are the lucky ones because it is not just a canvas, it has has the audio and passion you can hear and feel and through that you can then be the painter / sculpture and direct your own imagery for it. No one is correct in saying the song means this and that. You are only correct in knowing what this song means to you. Through that, if you find it beautiful, then it has meaning in your life. If you find it horrible, you too have found its own meaning in your life. Pieces of art like this are rare. Does it mean it is more signifigant than other than other songs? No. Other songs have more meaning to other people, though none the less it is a masterpiece in its own right, love it or hate it you will never have a middle ground with this song. It either speaks to you or it doesn't. The Chaplin speech gave the song a backbone / a structure for the song to become real. I agree with you and does make the song what it is and you now cannot imagine the song being the way it is now any other way. So 2 thumbs up. I concur.

They don’t truly question what is it to live ethically, and how to treat others, only what their religion allows. • We are proud individuals living on the city But the flames couldn't go much higher We find gods and religions to To paint us with salvation But no one No nobody Can give you the power To rise over love And over hate Through this iron sky That's fast becoming our minds Over fear and into freedom Oh, that's life Left dripping down the walls Of a dream that cannot breathe In this harsh reality Mass confusion spoon fed to the blind Serves now to define our cold society From which we'll rise over love Over hate From this iron sky That's fast becoming our minds Over fear and into freedom You just got to hold on! You just got to hold on! Oh oh oh oh (To those who can hear me, I say, do not despair The misery that is now upon us is but the passing of greed The bitterness of men who fear the way of human progress The hate of men will pass, and dictators die And the power they took from the people will return to the people And so long as men die, liberty will never perish Don't give yourselves to these unnatural men Machine men with machine minds and machine hearts! You are not machines, you are not cattle, you are men! You, the people, have the power to make this life free and beautiful To make this life a wonderful adventure Let us use that power! Let us all unite!) And we'll rise over love And over hate Through this iron sky That's fast becoming our minds Over fear And into freedom Into freedom! From which we'll rise over love And over hate Through this iron sky That's fast becoming our minds Over fear and into freedom Freedom! Oh, from which we'll rise over love And over hate Through this iron sky That's fast becoming our minds Over fear and into freedom Freedom! Freedom! Rain on me! Rain on me!

It'll mean that the rest of the UK no longer has to sink taxes into a nation whose industry is non existent, and whose citizens receive £700 more than the average UK citizen. If Scotland leave, you can wave goodbye to your cheaper university fees as well as the majority of your international trading arrangements. Bon voyage.

    • Nobody seems to have pointed it out to him yet, but I'm also going to assume his heads too far up his pompous arse to do the research for himself, so il do it for him. Blazara, Scotland Subsidises the UK. HEAVILY. And has done for as long as the "Union"s historical Financial records go to show. University fees, NHS prescription charges etc ALL come from the Scottish budget "granted" to us by Westmintser. The budget they set is and always has been smaller than the sum of taxation revenue we put in to the UK system. So please, take your Bigoted ill informed Nationalistic self where it doesn't look so silly. Peace x

      @highlandwildcat31@highlandwildcat319 жыл бұрын
    • highlandwildcat31 I'm not a Nationalist by any stretch of the imagination; I despise the very notion of rallying around a flag. I would just like to get as good a deal from my government as is possible. -shrug- I have no real problem with Scotland being in the UK; but when people pull the whole "Freedom for Scotland" bollocks, I feel forced to respond in a way that will piss them off; because frankly, Scotland do not have a bad deal. Being in the UK gives Scotland an economic foothold for trade throughout the rest of the world which many have speculated would not be the case if Scotland were independent. Seeming as you didn't actually provide any statistics to support your claim, I shall; but for the opposing side: Scotland accounts for 8.4% of the UK population, 8.3% of the UK's total output and 8.3% of the UK's non-oil tax revenues - but 9.2% of total UK public spending. Scottish Executive figures for 2009-10 show that spending per capita in Scotland was £11,370, versus £10,320 for the UK. In other words, spending in Scotland was £1,030 - or 10% higher - per head of population than the UK average. Many people will argue that Scotland (simply based on Geography, and disregarding the fact that many of the workers and company owners come from other areas of the UK) inputs up to 90% of Britain's oil exports. This then skews the figures to make Scotland look like they're independently putting more in to the economy than they're receiving. However, North Sea oil is drying up quickly and is thought to practically die out as a source of income within the next few decades. As I said before, many of the companies and company heads are not of Scottish nationality. With all that taken into account; if Scotland do "gain" their independence, they're going to have a major problem within the next few decades. A big, big problem. Scotland will end up with a national deficit of billions every year as soon as the North Sea is no longer a viable avenue for oil exports. Seeming as Scotland has very little in the way of industry, it simply can't get a better deal on it's own. That, partnered with the fact that being in the UK provides Scotland with trade opportunities across the globe, makes an independent Scotland seem very bleak. Please don't label me as "bigoted" or "ill informed" when, unlike you, I have actually done some contextualised research.
