Lyrics
Did you ever want it?
Did you want it bad?
Ohhh, my
It tears me apart
Did you ever fight it?
All of the pain
So much pride
Running through my veins
Bleeding, I'm bleeding
My cold little heart
Oh I, I can't stand myself
And I know
In my heart, in this cold heart
I can live or I can die
I believe if I just try
You believe in you and I
In you and I
In you and I
In you and I
Did you ever notice
I've been ashamed
All my life
I've been playing games
We can try and hide it
It's all the same
I've been losing you
One day at a time
Bleeding, I'm bleeding
My cold little heart
Oh I, I can't stand myself
And I know
In my heart, in this cold heart
I can live or I can die
I believe if I just try
You believe in you and I
In my heart, in this cold heart
I can live or I can die
I believe if I just try
You believe in you and I
In you and I
In you and I
In you and I
In you and I
In you and I
In you and I
In you and I
Maybe this time I can be strong
But since I know who I am
I'm probably wrong
Maybe this time I can go far
But thinking about where I've been
Ain't helping me start

I'm 71 years old. I love this song . . can listen to it all night long. I wonder how many other "geezers" my age can appreciate this young man's incredible talent.
Me for one. Got into his music a couple of years ago (except 'I'm a black man in a white world' which I resented
You're 7 years ahead of me. All I can say after the first listen to anything from this artist is, wow.
Not also the man... everyone!! 💖 Luved the choir~
There are plenty of us old geezers here.
I agree with you i can keep on listening to this song
Saw him live when I was battling heroin addiction and it was like a spiritual rebirth for me and this album helped me get clean. Been sober for a year and and a bit.
Keep listening, enjoy 'clean' music!!!
Bro, I've been clean for 12 years and am so thankful every day I have real relationships and live life. Life hurts, but its real and I'm proud of you for choosing yourself and your future. All the best, compadre. Stay the course, I wanted to turn back sometimes, it changes the brain, but you got this!
Wonderful. Keep it up.
Congratulations, I'm so proud of you!!! You got this, one day at a time, and hell, one hour at a time if need be - that's how it is for me sometimes at least. . . . just know that you are stronger than any addiction you may battle in life, keep your head up always, forgive yourself, and ALWAYS ALWAYS love yourself more than any one else ever could!
@@Macamposd So proud of you bro!!! Keep loving yourself and lifting yourself and others up on the daily!!! The world needs more people like you who show understanding, love, and encouragement to others 🤜 🤗👏🙌

Would love to connect and share music! Music is the one thing keeping me from feeling lonely. I would love to share more with you
I wish you all the best bro! You should listen to that song "arriving somewhere but not here". ❤
I wish you all the best!
thank you and your family for everything you do for this country..stay safe.. n my prayers
Be safe on the road. And thank you for doing what you do. 🙏
Pink Floyd meets Marvin Gaye meets Leonard Cohen. Brilliant sound.
My wife and my baby are sleeping right now, long day by the way... i just opened a beer and this song came just to make the day perfect.
Congrats on your newborn sir!
Wish you many more perfect days in your life❤😊

The intro is so Pink Floydish........ I love it and can't get enough of it!

amazing yes. but I can only wait so long, so many times for 6:22 to arrive.
*the intro
Totally!! Even, when i heard this song for the first time, i thought it was pink Floyd but then I saw that it was Michael.
@@void-were-prohibitive nah man, the whole experience is what does it. What you are saying is like wanting to have sex just for reaching orgasm. The whole experience is much more fulfilling than actually reaching the end goal
The guitar is a story in itself. A story of longing and regret and wanting to atone for a mistake made. What a beautiful masterpiece! 2024 and I am still here.
For everyone wanting to skip the boring intro parts, the good stuff starts at 0:01.
You had me in the first half.

I don’t think many people fully comprehend the level of skill that it takes to execute such a flawless performance. Every unit in this musical group is working in perfect harmony.
Yep, this is bloody amazing (although recording in a studio does permit to edit and mix)
The song unfolds magnificently, this version is thoroughly mindblowing.
Pink Floyd?

How can someone so young, and all alone, be so similar to Pink Floyd? This guy is a miracle
Why? Because PF's influence is all pervasive. Any serious young guitarist / musican at some point gets the recommendation to listen to Pink Floyd, follows up on it and falls in love with. PF is truly timeless music that will continue to inspire musicians for ages to come. BTW, loving this :-)
He's not quite all alone but being influenced by such an influential band as Pink Floyd is no surprise.
We all are influenced by Pink Floyd, just like every good musician should be. But creating songs similar to Floyd's songs is not an easy job, and he did it brilliantly, despite his age.
Michael you are really special..your music gives me all kind of emotions..
Piero Pasquini Yeah !!!! amazing sound!
Ah man! I think I lost my virginity again listening to this master piece. You are a genius sir and your cold little heard is bigger than the world now... Sending love from Canada and Iran.
This is music. Rich music. Expect no better kind of music from our generation. The legends are proud to have Michael Kiwanuka as a heir of rich music.
I'm tired of old farts like me saying there is no more real music like in the 70's and 80's. This is beautiful and well made music. It's just a matter of exploring and finding. Wow.
👏
Because it just sounds like the old Songs ;)
Don't even mind that he's borrowing the Gilmore tone/feel a bit....
I recommend listening to KEXP (listen online or with their app. Their KZhead Channel has AMAZING live sessions). They are a cut above the rest as far as genres of music they play. I find alllll my new music there. I found Michael Kiwanuka there as well. They are public ran radio too.
To be honest, this music does borrow greatly from music from the 70's. His guitar tone and feel, and the ARP String Ensemble are staples of the Pink Floyd sound.
that opening sequence with essence of Pink Floyd.... mucho bad ass!
Yeah Remember me Gilmour a lot
@@dariosepulveda4445 In the 70s, this type of entry into various prog-rock groups was very common, it was not Pink Floyd who invented the genre. It was a musical genre very typical of the time and Michael Kiwanuka was inspired by it. I advise you to listen to more music from the 60s / 70s besides Pink Floyd, such as for example Camel, E.L.P., Genesis, Uriah Heep, etc.
I thought the exact same thing. Amazing
Thanks for the uppity music history lesson Luis - complete with 'advised' listening list - but this is Pink Floyd all over, namely Shine On You Crazy Diamond from the Wish You Were Here album of 1975. If you're not recognising that you have no place advising anyone about anything to do with music. No thanks to your 'prog-rock' wankery anyway, can't stand any of those bands. No one is saying they "invented the genre", but Floyd were in a class of their own.
@@compassolargo ...Kool and the Gang's Summer Madness, Carlos Santana, George Duke, Lonnie Liston Smith, to add my 2 cents to your impressive list.
The first time I listened to this song was September 17, 2018. It was a bad time for me. I remember sitting on a makeshift roof, having climbed it with so much difficulty, at 4 in the morning. I listened to this song on loop till the sun came out. That was the first time I ever wrote and here's the poem I wrote that day: Cold Little Heart You win. Amidst the tyranny of my agony, I realize... My heart succumbs finally, To my guilt, or to your absence? Burdened by something, Is it your virtue or my sins? Can see myself fading, Is it the growing dark or the shimmering light? I feel myself sinking, Is it a dream, or just the starry night? Want to ask you once, Should l stand again or give up the fight? Bewildered,I run searching around, Am I blind or is there no one in sight? Rush to me, strap me in your trap too tight, This cold little heart may bleed yet again, Another day, Another plight. This song will haunt me forever and I'll happily let it.
Wow, just beautiful. Music is an incredible thing for sure.
That is poetry! Fantastic. So well written. What can I say. You have a true gift.

Yes!! Very Pink Floyd sounding!!
This song is addictive to the soul. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I just said the same to my mum actually, lol I thought I was alone with that observation. Very much the Pink Floyd vibes going on at the start 👌🏼
Exactly my thoughts..
That's exactly what I thought. Those beautiful haunting complex harmonies in the instrumental lead in are hypnotic. Reminds me of vintage Pink Floyd. The vocals are incredible. If we all still lived in the age of super groups this would definitely he heading to the hall of fame. These guys are real craftsmen.
dude is channeling otis and bill withers, and then takes it beyond. we're blessed to have a young musician with this kind of deep talent.

With a little David Gilmour thrown in on the geetar.
Not just a little. Don't sell David short on this one ;-)

this young and over talented man knows what he is doing..now this is what you call serious music that's very good for your ears and soul...just absolutely brilliant
The opening of this song takes me back to my religious days in church. I haven't had that sort of experience for years. In this heart I can live or I can die. I choose life
Definitely has a David Gilmore feel to it. Wonderfully done.
Yes! That is what I felt, as well. I was lucky enough to see Pink Floyd back in like '74 or '75. Tremendous respect for Gilmore. This band is quite good, too.
First thing I thought also. Definitely Gilmourish..
Great gig in the sky comes deeply into mind , cold little heart is moving too.
Pink Floyd's spirit will live on through many beautiful wonders such as this one.
Total Pink Floyd vibes 🌈 🌚
I get what you guys are feeling here. But man, it's actually a little more subtle, a little more gentle hey? Keys are so sweet and Michael's guitar playing is beautiful. Vocals are almost tearful. You know the world is feeling you when you're viewer 22,979,130

I can‘t explain why this song triggers me so hard. I am working a lot and missing so many moments with my loved ones. Listening to this gets be back to earth, my memories with lost ones passing by and I remember how fast life can be over. I want to cry and then I feel emptiness and moments later I am just happy. This song drives me to be a better person after realizing how dumb it is to waste time for nonsense. This is a masterpiece! Thank you for this! I can‘t stop listening to this.

Loving the Pink Floyd influences, utterly beautiful music, a classic in the making.
What Pink Floyd song(s) come to your mind with this?
No particular song, just the general atmospheric mood of the instrumental intro.
Ok. I'm going crazy trying to think what song 3:42 riff reminds me/is similar to.
Well, that bit reminds me of "Shine on your crazy diamond".
Most of The Wall, obviously.
The notes you don’t play are just as important as the ones you do! This guys ability to leave space and build is incredible. Just a dynamic guitarist / musician so underrated it should be a crime

You described it PERFECT
Michael is one of those rare musicians with the confidence to make you wait that little bit longer, before hitting you with another masterful chord change, alteration in tempo or subtle shift in sound. Absolutely magnificent.
The music is so refreshing and moving! I'm nearly 60, and this crosses genres and types...it speaks to me.
I smoked some joints with my wife and then we laid down in bed to go to sleep. Lights off and we put earphones and this song came up. All i remember that i was taken to another dimension with an Afterlife vibe. I certainly couldn't feel my body and it somehow felt like I'm in contact with dear friends and relatives who passed away during my lifetime. My wife said that night she was trying to grab my arm, but it felt very cold to her and i wasn't reacting to any kind of touch, she also stated that i was smiling real wide while asleep. Amazing experience

music is ageless
About five years ago, I was broke, about to be evicted and just straight up depressed. My only friend in the world sent me this song (we dated back in the day but we're still close). I would play this specific version while I took long walks at night just vibing. This song became my staple for the first part of 2017.
Now you have 3 likes lol 😂 and good taste in music 🎶
Go girl go.
The deal with matter and flesh (versus energy and abstract which is what we are ultimately made of) is that we FORGET the reason we came to this planet. We know IN ADVANCE the troubles and hardships we will face, the temptations and falls we will encounter. This being the constant for everyone that signs up to the matrix of the little blue planet... What would then be the variable? THE WAY WE GO THROUGH THE HARDSHIPS OF LIFE. The attitude, the temperance we choose to undergo experiences while we 'walk through the valley of death'... You faced your grim reality and pulled through by playing sounds, appealing to VIBRATIONS. That was your coping mechanism. Some will do it appealing to substances like alcohol, pot, chemical drugs, some others will do it through tasting violence, control and some, the least, will even choose murder... very dangerous choices we will pick as we go through life but those will be the memories that will stick through, long, long after we are no longer physically here.... So good on ya Chelsea!. "It takes a very long time to clean out the garbage that we, luminous beings, pick up while in the world..." Book The Eagle's Gift by Carlos Castaneda
God wiling. Hope you are doing better
@@daniluchison you are a wise genius..
Outstanding, the album is quality. How stuff like this goes under the radar when the "charts" are jam packed with rubbish. True talent this, deserves more attention
stephen percival conspiracy
It's not a conspiracy. The thing is, the vast majority of people don't dig around for good music. They take what is put in front of them. Back when the internet was first going public, so many people argued that it was going to take away the 'filters' of the music companies and let everyone get out there on their own. And of course it did that. But what those folks never understood was that you could ALWAYS get out there on your own. The difference between the ones who got big and those who didn't is money, in almost all cases. Doesn't matter how good they are, unless they are gotten in front people on a broad scale, they will almost never become big. Nothing to do with talent, it's all about the human nature. And, the other thing the internet did, was let EVERYONE get out there on their own. So now there's a massive over-supply of music. By next week, most people can't even remember what it was that they were listening to last week. They stumbled across ten other acts or artists in the meantime. Add to that the fact that so much music is now synthetic and edited to the gills on the computer, it's undermined the value of talent. We don't live in an era anymore when people are respected for talent like was the case before the 2000's. That makes it a lot easier for 'beautiful people' to appear to be talented artists, and beautiful people always have the advantage with the wider audience. So it becomes about image and fashion and being a celebrity and all that. People like this guy need to be in an era where talent is celebrated. And an era where the ability to actually play your own music is important. That's just not the case now in mainstream popular music, and hasn't been since the 2000's really. I watched a video a few weeks ago of a festival where people just played their recorded music and basically just stood around on stage without actually performing anything at all. Where does this guy fit in that? With everyone stealing music like crazy, those folks with the money to put behind musical acts are going to take no risks. They'll put their money on the most formulaic, digitally produced music. The guy who just plays his music off of his laptop on stage and stands there just costs them plane tickets, unlike a real band. Back when music made a lot of money, music companies would put money behind a lot of acts and see what worked. And guys like this would get a chance to see if he could find a real audience. But now, most folks like him are going to be just another dude on KZhead, amongst millions of the same, struggling to get above the noise.
Well said. I heard this on satellite radio. Far better than any of the " top 40" crap.
stephen percival I so agree!!!!
I can't stand the music now a days..no talent and no depth or message..this is a breathe of fresh air and Michael and the rest of the band should gets noticed.
I discovered this song 6 hours ago, and i listened to it at least 30 times....then i discovered there is a Live session of the song...its going to be a long night
I was feeling very heavy today when I got home, and I found this pearl. It was like finding a glass of water on the desert.
Of course this song is incredible, but I was just wondering who shot this video. I love how it starts on the pianist and Kiwanuka and expands its perspective as other people are brought into the song. At one point you can even see the engineers in the booth. Also love the choice to not focus on Kiwanuka as he starts to sing... to cut back to Kiwanuka would be the most obvious choice, imho, but he's not even in the shot at this point! The camera instead seems to highlight the ensemble of performers around him. Which is perfect because it is really quite a brilliant ensemble.
Stephanie D I was thinking the same thing, Stephanie. Terrific camera work, congruent with flow of music.
Stephanie D...and the lighting. The religious feeling...
Stephanie D yes. You can actually see the (fab) musicians playing their instruments . . .no fade zoom fade cut zoom fade. Its quality production to go with the music.
and the way you described all the thing, the way you writed that down is indeed quite pleasent to read
Absolutely! Starting with the coffee mugs, then the pianist with his delicate play to start the song and slowly introducing the others members, standing behind Kiwanuka when he's working on his pedals, including the drummer just in time in the shot at 4:10 when he makes his debute, then the light into the lens at 6:10 to visually make the transition of the song from intro to the 'actual' song, subsequently getting behind the drummer and shifting the focus at 7:20 back to Kiwanuka and the rest of the band, including the percussionist at 8:20 at exactly the right moment to show his work on the shakers and make you actively noticing them, geting the guitarist at 9:10 in shot when his individual work is more prominent, getting the backup vocals and Kiwanuka in the shot at 10:00 when it is all about them, standing behind Kiwanuka at 10:30 when it is all about him, subtle moving him to the left side of the shot to include the drums and percussion as they kickin in again at 11:00, getting the backup vocals back in the shot when they re-emerge at 11:20, idem for the guitarist and then going back to the starting position and the coffee mug to close the video. Definately not by coincidence all this and it must have taken them a lot of tries, but the result is very natural and subtle. Makes you really part of the whole live aspect. Love it!
Some things in this world makes us feel that life's worth living. This song's for sure one of those things.
Me too my escape room
Absolutely. Aahh to be reminded that you're alive.
I severely hope you don’t feel like that all the time. I know life is hard, and it’s easy to go down the rabbit hole that is depression. But like in the song, you can try or you can die. Merry Christmas and happy new year my friend.
There is something very special about this. It deserves to be up there with all the classics. Thank you.
They Pink Floyded me 😍
Kiwanuka is already a legendary and original musician unlike no other. Pure class. Musical, original and instrumentally and vocally elaborate and stunning. Would love to see him on NPR Tiny Desk!

It is the long intro before the song that is why just God dam whoooooo
Maybe this time I can be strong But since I know who I am I'm probably wrong Maybe this time I can go far But thinking about where I've been Ain't helping me start These words turn into water in my eyes and a stone in my throat.

Gorgeous, I agree, music can be gorgeous. This is gorgeous.
Did you ever want it? Did you want it bad? Oh, my It tears me apart Did you ever fight it? All of the pain, so much power Running through my veins Bleeding, I'm bleeding My cold little heart Oh I, I can't stand myself And I know In my heart, in this cold heart I can live or I can die I believe if I just try You believe in you and I In you and I In you and I In you and I Did you ever notice I've been ashamed All my life I've been playing games We can try to hide it It's all the same I've been losing you One day at a time Bleeding, I'm bleeding My cold little heart Oh I, I can't stand myself And I know In my heart, in this cold heart I can live or I can die I believe if I just try You believe in you and I In my heart, in this cold heart I can live or I can die I believe if I just try You believe in you and I In you and I In you and I In you and I In you and I In you and I In you and I In you and I Maybe this time I can be strong But since I know who I am I'm probably wrong Maybe this time I can go far But thinking about where I've been Ain't helping me start
