In the 1st verse he wakes up from sleeping on the ground and shakes the leaves off himself down to the brown earth. Then he walks under the shade of the trees, meaning he feels and reacts to what he feels(hot and cold). He’s alive. He then sees his brothers and sisters(the humanity around him) all different colors. He sees them like no other - he sees them in a different way, they are all his brothers and sisters.
