Hey, I’m Sonny! I’m from the US but I’ve been living in Asia for 10 years and started making food and travel videos to document my experiences. I travel to different parts of the world, hunting down and documenting the most unique food each country has to offer.
If you see any factual food errors in my videos, please feel free to politely let me know in the comments. I'm a huge fan of trying different, interesting foods in each country. My show is from a Western point of view, but more importantly, MY point of view. It is not meant to offend any person or culture.

That woman who sells food for only $0.20 isn't just selling food, she's spreading love through her food. I have tremendous respect for her. I wish her and her mother good health. Thanks for sharing this heartwarming episode Sunny.
The first was doing it for her community. The second for her family to rise. Both are goals and ideally you should do both. I respect the first one a heck of a lot more because I know exactly how petty and selfish a family can become but I cannot say the second is doing the wrong thing.
Yes! The way she served not only affordable food but also great quality's and also big big portions of it to the community ❤
The food she makes looks sooo amazing as well and I love meat, fish and poultry. But that vegan food looks banging!!!
Also spreading small hairs @ 3m 40s xD
God loves you, seek him and if you want forgiven of your sins and want to be certain that your sins are forgiven believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved
“I don’t push too much complicated stuff into it”- proceeds to add A5 wagyu, gold leaves, truffles and foie gras
i mean they're not wrong. those ingredients arent complicated, theyre just expensive
Random stuff that make absolutely no sense on a pho
"complicated stuff" means not including normal and inexpensive stuff. 😅
Whenever one of these shows come out you can guess the 5 ingredients that will be in it, regardless of whether they have any purpose. All it's missing is the caviar. The gold leaf in particular is super lame.
He's was right, he didn't put in bird nest, grounded pearl, shark fins, abalone and whiskey
Once you start adding gold leaf to a dish I automatically assume you just want to boost the price. Same for Truffle.
And caviar. And wagyu. And foie gras. Hahahahaha but yes gold leaf is the worst. You'll just poop money
I have no issues adding truffle to a meal, at least it adds some sort of flavour. But Gold Leaf is literally just to boost the price and justify the insanely high price tag, it offers no benefit to meal other than that.
More with Calvin please. The two of you together is the best thing!!!
Gold leafs and a ridiculously large peppermill - everything about it was pretentious and stupid.
@@daveland3599why tf are you putting this under somebody elses comment and rather than just make your own comment 🤡
The first women is a legend! ❤ Selling food at such low rate so that everyone can afford it is so noble. And her food looks really good. She is doing such a great job. And the community where she lives is also really kind.
agreed! i could easily pay like $15 for a bowl of her noodles in america. i can only hope she's still able to make ends meet and still have enough to treat herself once in a while.
Something the West has left behind in our pursuit of bank account wealth, instead of a wealthy heart and soul😢
Mad Respect to her and Pretty Tenacious too making it 3 years with that price range... Been following the similar Philosophy in my mini Restaurant for a while now.. selling at half prices of other well funded restaurants in town. Done good for a couple of years but.. came to a point where I say" Fack it while people serving with half the quality we maintain get all the goodies, houses, Cars & whatnots. Whyd' I have to still ply through the markets with my old scooty??? Still can't be progressive enough to charge equal prices as others though.. 25% profit is enough for me and my family😅😅
Most soup costs less than $2 in Vietnam
God loves you, seek him and if you want forgiven of your sins and want to be certain that your sins are forgiven believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved
2nd lady is smart businesswoman that dish was expensive but atleast taste look justified she is confident in her skills and was even anle to send her daughter for even wide range of culinary skills in foreign nation. Goodluck to her and her kids
The local call her scammer and only tiktokers and youtubers visit her. Imagine paying 1.5 dollar for a bowl in Vietnam and you have no meat for it. Selling food in the price of Europe in Vietnam.
she just a scammer, the food actually so suck, and the owner attitude is bad
@@DylanRoy666what are you talking about? She put a high price, gave back in quality, good flavors, and quantity. I don't see any issue here.
@@N2O_The1000thElement go visit her and see it yourself, I don't wanna waste time explaining.
@@N2O_The1000thElement $14 is still expensive for that. You can easily find the same bowl for a cheaper price from many different vendors. Additionally, she is selling a cheaper version for $1.5. You'll receive noodles and soup, but no meat or fishcake, that's just ridiculous in VN.
The first seller is such a beautiful soul! She is positively affecting people's lives by offering them delicious food that everyone can afford, food that is GOOD for them and their health. She is also helping the animals and the environment. What a great business concept!
I had eaten there just last month and the food so good, the ordering was tricky though as my Vietnamese not so good, but I received a great bowl of this mismatch stuff amazing broth

@@desert_holly oh yesss! And that was one of the most beautiful sight I’ve seen in a long while. How was the experience for you?
20 cent a bowl is insane even in Vietnam. I'm impressed at how she maintain the price so low😊
Some other people donated ingredients and supported her. Even the people who serve there may be volunteers.
you cant, unless she's getting donations of some sort.
I think a lot of normal-income people would give her more than 20 cents. Those customers feel they're contributing to a good cause and the owner can continue to provide 20-cent meals to those who really can't afford it. It's a win-win strategy.
The price is actually symbolic, it does not cost actually 20 cents.
@@kdfooaijfea3asdf,You're right because this video only goes through it and doesn't go into detail, so many people will wonder how she can maintain it at a price that's not enough to buy 1/10 of the ingredients. In fact, her restaurant is called "Tuỳ Tâm", which means depending on the customer's heart, depending on the amount the customer wants to pay. In fact, the average price of the dish is 25 to 30 thousand VND, equivalent to 1> 1.2 USD.But poor people will come to eat at certain times and days of the week for a symbolic price of 20 cents,During other hours, she still sells at the normal price of 25 thousand and buyers are willing to pay more as a contribution to her kitchen.
That second woman's technique is what I do for my kids. The whole crab is deshelled. This is very effort intensive. $14 for no shell dining is worth the cost.
nah it just scam, her attitude n food just so bad
14 dollars is 2 days worth of minimum wage in Vietnam. Does a bowl of noodle in an alleyway justify its price?
@@huynhkhangle5391 i dont think you know what the definition of a scam is. a scam is you promise something for the price and you give something else. she is selling exactly what she is showing. she doesn't owe it to you to provide it cheap, she doesn't owe you anything. if you don't like the price just buy from one of the other hundreds of noodle shops around offering it much cheaper i tried it when i visited vietnam. it was good, better than many of the other noodles, but i wouldn't say it was the best. i probably wouldn't buy it again, but others would, and that's their right
@@bigboiganiga8356 then don't buy it? Who the fuck is forcing people to buy?
@bigboiganiga8356 you are delusional even in our western country there are more than enough Restaurants who charge more than what the average gets in one day and you get less meat than with hers. So just chill, eat somewhere different but don't bully her for making good, expensive food! People go eat it and her children have a bright future because of her. You can be jealous and all but just shut up and keep it for yourself! You treat her like a criminal but she did nothing wrong. Judge the real bad people but nod her
Of all the countries I eat noodles ,, Vietnam have the best dry noodles and liquid noodles in the world it’s soo delicious their broth is another level ,, their meatballs and springrolls aresoo good and fresh
That's what I tell everyone but I'm biased bc I'm Vietnamese.
Vietnam also has the best sandwich in the world the banh mi and the best spring rolls in the world
My goodness, this first woman- is absolutely amazing & awesome. Much, respect ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️!
Good to see my Vietnamese Brothers and Sisters safe and strong. Love from the Philippines.

🇻🇳 🇨🇿
The first one is astonishing about how caring she is to give good food for only 20 cents ❤
The first lady is very humble and has a great heart. It's incredible to me that her restaurants can make a profit at selling her bowls for $0.20. As Sunny said, it does seem like cost of the food itself exceeds that amount.
The community will help her maintain the restaurant. Her work is a good deed so many people will pay more, or sponsor her.
I'm guessing she probably makes most of the profits from tips. I would bet that half the people probably tip at least another $0.20, which is still a bargain. It's almost impossible to find a meal under $1 anywhere in the US.
she said in another show she quoted the price instead of free so that poor people don't feel pity. They actually paid for their meals. No one could survive with $0.2/dish nowadays.
@@trentonatorno such thing as tip in Vietnam lol only in America n Europe. You can tip if u want but local there don't tip. Only Viet Kieu n forgeiner.
She's probably operating at a loss as a charity. I've seen restaurants in Korea that do the same thing, they provide very cheap meals for people who can't afford to eat anywhere else.
Man what a lovely that first woman, man it's hard but really appreciate her work, may she prosper in every aspect of her life
It's amazing how far Vietnam has come since the war. It's a testament to their people. No victimization, no blaming, just decades of hard work.
BLM! 😂
Yeah up to 80% of Vietnamese have positive view of USA. They literally said GG after war .
In vietnam, the north and south people hate each other more than they hate the US.
funny how u say no blaming when the US is the only country that carpet bombed Cambodia and used nukes twice. no repercussions
@@shivanshna7618 and there is still 20% of a very specific group of weird people.
Nice, this show is going back to Vietnam. Calvin and Thuyen just make the Vietnam series my favorite.
you know the price is bullshit when they start putting gold leaves on a dish
Only thing I disslike about expensive dishes is that eatable gold paper every chef ever adds when they want to make something fancy, It's useless.
Not to mention the truffle, it tastes like old socks lol.
@@daniels-mo9ol it definitely doesn't go well with half the stuff they throw it on top of. I don't see it going well with pho.
Nah,the gold isn't totally useless..It let's them charge more for a bowl of soup.
Was about to say the same thing. I never understand why it’s so common in these “expensive” dishes. It adds no texture or flavor. It doesn’t even look that pretty.
You gotta have Calvin on the show more. He's so funny man you guys make such a great duo
Lovely couple
That 14$ seafood dish looks amazing. The colour reminds me of this thick fish soup we have here in Belgium. I wish Sonny would come over here for our classics: (north sea) shrimp croquets, blood sausage, waterzooi,...
Probably some of the best, most well produced food video series I've seen on KZhead.. It was like watching a movie. Sonny makes it so compelling. You can't help but root for him. 👍👍👍
He's the best!
You made some valid points.
the beautiful story associated with the cheaper noodles make it priceless!!
Just brilliant. Thank you! Been watching your FUN series for years. Keep going!

The woman in the beginning I wish her all the best and for her family may they blessed with many blessings 🙏
Definitely going to try the 2nd one featured here.. expensive yes but super value for money if you are a seafood lover. Btw the bloopers section cracked me up and you guys as usual have such great chemistry together.
Great episode! The authenticity of the banh canh cua of that lady is mindblowing. Its one of my all time favorites of vietnamese dishes (even in the states, not many restaurants even bother to have it on their menu, which sucks) The color of the soup here is so vibrant and rich, you can really see how gelatinous the soup is from being slow cooked and how fresh the udon noodles are. The soup is like drinking creamy bone marrow with a crab essence and is not fishy at all. Her positive attitude for not wanting to change the recipe or lower the standards is awesome enough, and so is the portion size. I want a bowl NOW. Also its great to see Sonny and Calvin appear again!
Time to pretend my food's this good while having breakfast 🙏
wrrr
Exactly what i do lmfao
Happy Easter, thank you for the upload those are some good looking noodles 🍜

It's impossible to stress how cheap that first bowl is. In America, you wouldn't pick a quarter off the ground if your back hurt a little bit.
I would... lol but that is because those ground cents have really saved my butt a few times.
@@celticluvr yeah well your back pain is probably bullshit. If I see a $20 I have to do weird cheerleader moves to get it.
so refreshing seeing sonny back in Vietnam
Yeah, fantastic comparison! I remember back in 2006 they seved Bánh mì for 6500 dong on the street for breakfast on my way to work in Trương Định in Destrict 3. Phở for lunch... and Cà phê sữa đá after lunch. Vietnamese cuisine is one of my favourite.
I am really falling inlove with vietnamese dishes.
3:20 "Drizzle clockwise". Proceeds to drizzle counter-clockwise lol.
and there's a hair in Sonnys bite right after
Any chef that whacks edible gold into a dish just to inflate the price has no dignity or integrity. Oh wow "one is not enough so we put 2"? So next time if he uses 3 pieces he can bump the price to 200 dollars?
Awesome new video. Keep them coming, man i want to try that pho!!!
I'm almost 100% sure that the most expensive bowl is also the least delicious. Simply bc the bowl isn't hot enough. The broth loses like 20 degrees by the time it hits that bowl
Love seeing Calvin back in a video. A food adventure with one of the homies would be amazing!
God Bless the restaurant owner that sells her dishes for .20 cents! She's truly an angel!

After watching quite a few episodes from a couple of Japan ones and others, I must say I am now becoming a big fan. From your humor and effortless flow, the insightful backstories, the music used, and storytelling ...
