Dave Iauco you don’t know what he will do with the car. There are sport cars worth a lot more than that car that race in Vintage Racing.
I think this one is WAY more important than the Original Batmobile. Even though the batmobile might be a little more identifiable to many, THIS is the holy grail of cars.
That sweet sound of that rumbling engine is perfect!
That is one legendary machine .Car has dents and has been through hell it self .The true mark of what once was .I have seen muscle cars reduced to as low as $500.00 -Now despite being loaded with dents and high mileage - such cars represent what once was . In 74 I bought a nice 67 427 green fastback for $700. Those were the days
billville111 Ford didn’t offer a 427 in the Mustang line ever. Someone may have dropped one into it. They did have a 428 though. The 427 and 428 were two different engines.
@@thomasgardner8280 1. there was no 427 67 fastbacks 2. nice ones where not that cheep in 74.
Actually, in 1976 I purchased a 1967 S code GT fastback with every option and a 428 cobra jet installed. Rust free, needed a paint job, for $700. Muscle cars were cheap in the 70s and 80s.
@@daleostrom3613 i remember inline six models being pricey for what they are in the 80s, as they where usualy unmolested there so good base for pro street conversion...we forget that the build quality was poor and this things would rust out and brake down in 3 years or less when driven on salty winter roads
@James W.;I still own my $700 67 fastback. It's had a few different FE engines over the last 45 years. 428 cobra jet, 427 tunnel port, 427 medium riser and a NHRA Stock 390. The 390 ran 11 flat first time out. That's .7 under ES/A index. So even the 390s will run good without much work.
After seeing the movie and the way the bad guys clicked on their seat belts before the chase, Ive always done the same, that one scene did a lot for safety of all us kids then .
Being there was an incredible moment and one I will never forget

It will be going back on auction. I was there and was stretching my arm and accidentally bought it.
I'm surprised it didn't get more than that, to be honest! It's one of the most iconic movie/TV vehicles which is still in existence! Such an incredible example of a piece of culture which represents a time which will never exist again! Not only one of the most revered cars, but the chase scene in the movie Bullitt, is one of the most original & inspirational scenes which still garners attention (with a huge following) from a film now over 50 years old! Just think how more intense the film could have been, if the city of San Fran allowed filming of the chase to occur on the Golden Gate Bridge??!!
The owner made a mistake atarting at 3500. If they starter at 7mil would sell for more than this.
I think the fact that it was shown on many recent TV shows and did the car museum circuit may have hurt the mystique and value somewhat. But good for the family to show it first, they did the right thing.
@@Burnedtoastify Sure did hurt the value a lot, plus touring and transporting the car costs a lot. Kiernan got his 15min of fame in the car community at a big financial cost.
I think the 3.4 Million was a good price. It's an iconic car but they over hyped it I think.
This is just great! Daddy sure knew what he had with that car and I'm glad his kids knew too! And its still one of the coolest Mustangs evah- the sound of that motor is baaaad aaasssss!!
Could you imagine the badass teacher/mom who daily drove this?? The story is insane!!!
gordon mathew I love them all equally!
Yes, most were I6 or small v-8, 3 speed manual (pain in the ass to drive) or automatic transmission. To get a car set up like the Bullitt car would have had to order new. Ford 4-speeds were rare since women bought most Mustangs new. By the time cars were 5-10 years old they had the bell beat out of them.
Ford 4 speeds rare? What planet are WE talking about

I am in Australia & I am fortunate to have a GT390 fastback in LHD & still original. This Bullitt was manufactured in January 1968 in San Jose. Mine was on the same production line at the same time & was built on the 2nd of February 1968! Mine was actually bought before the Bullitt! That’s as close as I’ll ever get to this original Bullitt but I’m still a bloody happy boy to have such an iconic car! I bought mine because Steve McQueen has always been an idol of mine. What a result! I’m just going out to look at mine & give it a big kiss!!! 😍 💋😎🤣👍🏼 Cheers from Oz🍻 P.s. I’ll take bids starting at $3,500.....😂
It's amazing that much cool remains in that car after so many years and all because Steve McQueen drove the hell out of it more than 50 years ago. He'd be in his nineties today, imagine how great it'd feel to see all this attention now, R.I.P. always remembered.
I am hoping (no pun) it goes to the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn. Congrats to the seller!
I like how people way back got their phone out to take photo. 😄

No disrespect to Steve McQueen but he actually sent a letter to the family basically demanding they sell it to him! You can find a copy of the original letter on the net! Nonetheless he was & still is my idol! Ask my kids!!!😎👍🏼
He's my cousin on my moms side of the family.
McQueen did send a letter in '77, McQueen was notoriously tight with his money I'm sure they were far apart on price. The story is the wife a school teacher or such used it has her daily driver which I think is great, what I don't understand is why in hell they didn't garage it or take better care of it? The second stunt car is in Mexico purported to be undergoing restoration. Can't recall which movie it was -McQueen charged back studio property department for wearing his personal watch at one time.
YES, that was a smart move, wait to cash in.
Rusty Shackleford Thanks that gave me some solace.
