Peugeot 3008 SUV 2020 in-depth review | carwow Reviews

The new Peugeot 3008 takes a radical departure from the car that came before it. Where the old one looked ungainly and frumpy, its replacement is one of the sharpest family crossovers on the market. So the looks are sure to catch the eye, but how does it drive? Is it good enough to tempt buyers away from rivals like the Nissan Qashqai or the SEAT Ateca? Find out as I put it to the carwow test in my full in-depth review.

It seems like a very nice place to travel in, also the exterior is quite pleasing, stands out from all them "gray diesels". I'd probably buy this instead of some VAG equivalent in 5-6 years when I could actually afford one. Bravo Peugeot!

    • The French, especially Peugeot, actually always have the capabilities to make great quality interiors. Even the interiors of German premium cars such as VW, BMW, Mercedes are actually made & developed by a French company Faurecia. Faurecia is one of Peugeot's subsidiaries. So in other words, those excellent interiors of Audi, BMW, Mercedes etc are made/designed by Peugeot via Faurecia.

    • Haiho HH you're right. Not many people know this. People tend to underestimate French cars' build quality although actually those premium German cars' interiors are built by the French company Faurecia. And moreover, only the French dare to make distinctive stand-out cars in the streets like they show in this 3008. Personally Im quite fed up seeing the all look-alike Japanese/German cars on the streets. So a French beautie like this 3008 is welcome anytime on my street.

  • After a lot of research, and a final seal of approval from Matt, I bought the 1.2l auto 3008 GT Line a year ago. Love it so much I decided to revisit this review a year later (like re-reading a love letter). This car is a pleasure to drive and the interior and kit, for the price and relative to competitors I considered, is fantastic. Tip: Definitely get the electric kick tailgate (I use mine all the time when my hands are full of shopping bags or sports kit) and seriously consider the grip control (for about €200 it takes only one bad snow storm to make you happy that you did, and you also get different rims for that price which will differentiate your 3008 from others on the road!). As Matt says, just buy it!!

The look of it has drawn a lot of attention with people saying it's like a Land Rover but a bit chunkier. And the interior is so easy to use and very well laid out. It's certainly a change from our Octavia estate.

  • Read a couple of comments asking for a reliability issues. I've had this car for 2 years now. An absolutely brilliant car. Considered Volvo XC40 also. XC40 is already looking a bit meh. This car still looks pretty dang good. Some may be worried about its power. But, I found it more than plenty even when I had to be somewhat heavy footed. The interior is, arguably, the best in its price range. Nothing comes remotely close to its simple elegance. It is also very functional, unlike many other Sports "Utility" Vehicles, which have boot space of a VW Golf (if not smaller). Driving dynamics is good. The small steering wheel is a joy to use. With reliability...I haven't had major issues with it...like engine failure or head gasket blowing. But, I had to take it to the dealer as the driver's side seatbelt warning light and beep came on intermittently while driving (with seatbelt on!). Then became so bad that it was on almost at all times, which became supremely annoying. Dealership unplugged and replugged the harness, which seemed to solve the issue. But, that issue has come back. Two weeks ago, "Engine Fault: Repair Needed" warning light came up and the car lost throttle while I was driving. I pulled over, restarted the car and it seemed okay. Anyway, had the car towed to the dealer and it ended up being the fuel tank issue. Something about it leaking and flooding the cat filter. Both fuel tank and cat filter were replaced under warranty. On the way back from the dealer, the seatbelt warning light and beep came on again. Also, it rained that night. I had complained about apparent rust on the panoramic sunroof rubber gasket. The dealer brushed it off as "just grease". When I reversed the following morning, water poured out from top of the rearview mirror. And did it when I stopped, etc. I inspected the sunroof rubber gasket. It definitely seemed like a proper rust and I'm assuming the water got in through there. Also, the plastic trims that run vertically alongside the windscreen had come pretty loose for some time. Something about the clips being broken off due to "fatigue". Anyway, took my car in against today to address all those issues. Perhaps, just little issues in the grand scheme of things, except the sunroof rubber gasket one. Something like that simply shouldn't happen to a car just around 2 years old. Trims coming loose, I thought French cars were renowned for that. But, thought they'd fixed it recently. Maybe not. Fuel tank...could be a freak occurrence, could be a design fault. Who knows? Seatbelt warning electrical issues, a minor but rather annoying one. So, yeah, there they are. 4 issues I've had with the car, which all happened in the last 3~4 months.

My only gripes are the touch screen - would much prefer buttons, and the heat/vent system is terrible. Ths air vents are completely un intuitive and the output is woeful especially in the footwells where i would say its non existent for all practical purposes eg. on cold days!

Peugeot really stepped up their game - they offer the best value for money and it seems like they're spot on - people like to have beautiful vehicles both inside and outside, as well as some cool features. And that's it. Back in the days you had to order a V6 engine to get access to heated seats, panoramic sunroof, and other extras.

  • finally someone finally dares to say that vw is not always the best and its way overrated

    @slumpika@slumpika7 жыл бұрын
    • slumpika Seriously, you have to wait for the durability of the materials. VW aren't overrated at all, otherwise they wouldn't keep their value as they do. Or do you judge books by their flashy cover? Car companys aren't stupid, they improve the aspects car reviewers are able to look for in the short time they can test a car.

      @miskatonic6210@miskatonic62107 жыл бұрын
    • VW is not overrated at all, that's what people who know nothing about cars say because they want to sound edgy and show they know more than other because they hate something that is popular. It's like that in all areas, not just when it comes to cars. In reality, the reputation it has is exactly the one it deserves, and it didn't get that reputation overnight, VW built the reputation it has over decades. They're great, high quality cars, but very traditional, so you can't expect some crazy design from them or something very exciting, because that way they'd lose their core costumers. You do get high quality materials, great attention to detail and fit and finish (almost always best in class), efficiency, reliability, lots of space, refinement, always top technology in terms of engines and gearboxes, as well as other pieces of tech that other brands usually put in their cars a generation after VW, and in general cars that are the best or close to best in class in all major areas. You have to own a VW to be able to appreciate the qualities it has, because it's not a car that shouts at you and impresses you at first glance. They're not the best brand in the world, but in segments where they compete, they always offer arguably the best overall cars. For example, there is no hatchback out there that is overall better than a Golf for example, yes the Focus is a bit nicer to drive, but it's not as comfortable or refined, and nowhere near as well made or high quality overall, Astra is nice overall too, but against lacks the quality and refinement of Golf in many details, and others are just not anywhere close to it. Same with the Passat or the Polo.

    • Our company has 5 Passat estates with a 2.0 TDI with 143hp that are about 5 years old now, most of them have over 300k km's on the clock, never any major issues with any of them. They're manuals, so can't talk about DSG's, but other than being regularly serviced, they're simply very easy to live with, and held up very well despite being trashed around by many different drivers.

I trialled the new one and for a number of reasons didn't like it or the attitude of the dealer who supplied my previous 2 Peugeots. It is better styled but (like many other marques) relies too much on toys to appeal to drivers. I ordered the SEAT Ateca 4WD and have to wait 6 months until delivery (in France) - due end of June. Do not believe all the negative (unproven) criticisms of Peugeot - Trolls are everywhere.

  • Big thanks to Mat and the CarWow team. I had a 2011 2.0 litre diesel Renault Laguna TomTom edition. This was an emergency buy as our 2nd child came along. I spent about a year researching the next car for my family. I wanted an SUV and wanted to move back to petrol. I went back and forth between many options. But thanks to these videos I eventually settled on a Peugeot 3008 GT Line. I actually managed to get a 2019 petrol model for a really good deal. I've had the car for 4 months and it is amazing. Thank you Mat for all the advice and review footage. I absolutely love my 3008 and there are absolutely no regrets. Thank you.

  • I really enjoy your extensive coverage via your reviews, and your sense of humour, which eleviates any boring bits that may creep into the review. Can you please advise me if the 3008.would be a suitable car for both my wife and i, whom are pensioners in out late 70s. I would like to continue driving an SUV.type car, as it's obviously easier for us to enter and exit this type of vehicle.And as im about to change my car this year, i just want to make sure this car would be a suitable fit for me. It certainly looks quite a classy car to me, but every little bit of advice would be of great help to me, in respect to making a right and final decision. Thank you in advance.👍

    • James Ure The car is amazing and so far has not been proven unreliable. There are only two really bad things about it: the rear view and the super soft suspension. It just wobbles around. From my older relatives I would advise you to also test a VW Touran or Ford S-Max. Not nearly as stylish but much better to drive and easier to get in and out

Build quality is better than my current car. It also drives better. It's on my shortlist - after deciding not to stay with VW

  • I pretty much agree with the reviewer. I recently had one of these on hire for a few days and was pleasantly surprised by it. It looks good inside and out. It is practical, comfortable and good to drive. Its not the most entertaining of cars from behind the wheel but it has an easy going nature. Undoubtedly a very good effort by Pug. That said my personal choice would be the CX5.

  • If you want a bigger car (to carry your drum set around) that can get you out of sticky situations, like muddy roads, and not look like a potato this is the car for you! I absolutely love my GT-line and it is quite cheap to run on long distances or trips to the mountains side every week. I haven't driven many cars in my life but this feels very relaxing and I don't arrive tired at any destination. Thumbs up for the review as well!

      @chernadomingo1484@chernadomingo14846 жыл бұрын
    • Cherna Domingo yeah.. the pedal position and the steering position are a bit weird. But then again it's freaking worth it. I'd rather drive in such futuristic cockpit than say, in a boring Tiguan's interior. The piano touches are a marvel to use and so practical too. The screen is big and easy to see while driving. The French indeed have such strong characters, and it shows in their cars. The French engineering, styling and ergonomics are indeed weird and need some time to get used to. But once we get used to it, we'll come to appreciate it.

The cost of pack city 2 on a peugeot 3008 is 550 euros and includes parking sensors (front, rear and side sensors), 360 degrees camera and park assist (the one that parks the car for you) Can you tell me how much all this costs to put on an Audi please??? :-) Also about the remarks the 3008 is not an SUV... well it has 22cm of ground clearance. Tiguan has 20 and Kodiaq has 18.... You know you cant go off road with 18cm of ground clearance don't you... For comparison the a-class has 16cm of ground clearance.. Plus the peugeot has the grip control system....

Did a bit of off road driving to get to some secretive well-hidden beaches and the lack of 4WD was not a problem at all. Compare to the 3008 my every day Tiguan is dull and boring.
