@@timothylee2772Not necessarily. AO 2005 - would have been a toss up against Davenport in the final who ended up beating her 6-0 6-0 6 weeks later. AO 2007 - probably would have won against Vaidisova/ Peer in the F. 2010 Wimbledon - would have lost to Li in the QF as Li beat her 4 times in a row in that period and a week prior in Birmingham on grass 2013 RG - probably would have won this Slam, yes. 2015 AO - probably would have won this one too. 2015 Wimbledon - Maria was in poor form and no way was she beating Azarenka and Muguruza on grass in a row 2016 AO - She would likely have lost to Kerber So at best, Maria would have won 2 more Slams, but you also have to consider if there was no Serena, her opponent in the 2004 Wimbledon final would have been Mauresmo who she couldn’t beat for years, so that’s probably one less Slam. So without Serena, Maria would have won 6 Slams instead of 5.
I remember watching this live, Serena was so sick, she was having coughing fits and she actually threw up! But she still won!❤ G.O.A.T

the way the tennis community tried to pretend like maria was ever on serena's level needs to be studied. they were never rivals, maria was white girl pretty and got famous for that mostly, although she was a good player in her younger years. serena is the greatest female athlete ever.

Love them both but to call this a rivalry is insulting to Williams. Their h2h is 20-2 in favor of serena, grand slams 23-5, titles 73-36. The last time Sharapova won against Williams was in 2004.
Lopsided for sure. But Maria is still objectively the second best female tennis player of the 21st century so far. In the last 20+ years only her and Serena managed to win all slams.
Both Venus and Henin are better than Sharapova in my opinion. They both won 7 slams plus the Olympic gold medal in singles, and they won multiple slams in a season, something Sharapova never did.
@@ramonecricket5183 I respect your opinion. But Maria is one of only ten players to complete career grand slam. That’s important to me. And she has Olympic silver only losing the gold match to Serena obviously. Djokovic been to four straight Olympics and only got bronze. And nobody holds it against him. Many people still consider him the GOAT despite that.
@@MrGenexxx SHARAPOVA’s one-dimensional power game, her high-school level volleying skills and her unreliable serve make her a far inferior player, objectively, compared to Venus and Henin (who both have winning H2H against Maria, to further prove this). Props to Maria for working hard late in her career to win the French (twice!) where she used to move awfully. However, this is further tainted by her abuse of a Russian army drug that was ultimately banned as performance-enhancing by the medical staff n board of the WTA. She said she took it for 10-11 years, so every single one of her titles in that period deserves a big fat asterisk, especially since her endurance and ability to win third sets absolutely PLUMMETED once she was forced to stop taking this unfair advantage substance. If Venus or Henin had been so lucky to take that PED, they would likely have the career slam too. But instead, they still stand above Maria in technique, prestige, integrity and the GS count.

let me just point out the fact that Maria did countless things that could be questioned by the ampire like asking before challenging and going over the time limit throughout the entire match. The one thing Serena did, she lost an entire point over without a warning and which had no effect on the outcome of the point. This is what she has had to go through all her career. Over 20 something years, we can count her outbursts on one hand but people make such a big deal about it.
Serena is simply the best ever. She is the goddess of tennis.

I watched this match live. Serena was sick and was coughing a lot, especially during the break between the sets. Still she beat Sharapova in straight sets. I think Serena won French Open while she was very sick throughout the tournament. Very inspiring Champion!

I hate how the female commentator refers to Serena as an aggressive player. She doesn’t have negative adjectives to qualify Sharapova’s game.
Aggressive refers to the style of tennis play. It's not pejorative. Serena is classified as an aggressive baseliner like many top players who have big serves and favor power over placement. Serena is of course highly skilled in all aspects.

This was a good match. The second set was excellent. I am a big Serena fan, but i also admire Sharapova a lot. People like to portray her as a brainless ball basher, but its a lie. You don't win 5 slams, a career grand slam and beat the likes of Serena Williams and Justine Henin in slam finals by just hitting the ball hard. She also overcame a shoulder surgery to win 2 more slams and reached multiple finals. I believe if Serena was out of the picture she would have won more. Serena was just a horrible match up for her, because Serena was better than her in almost all aspects of the game. For those always bringing up her drug issues, it only became illegal after 2015, therefore cut her some slack. She's a very accomplished woman.

20:23 why did she serve three times? I thought you are only get to serve two times
first, her serve touched the net[you could hear the umpire said 'let'] but well inside the service line. so, another first serve for her which hit the net. basically, this one is a faulty serve. Once you missed the first serve by hitting the net or missing the service lines[outside the mark], a player will then be given a second serve to play before losing the point if the player still miss the same way it did with the first serve. hence, she still got a second serve when you thought she was serving on the same service box three times because the first try was not really a miss, nor the service was accepted to start the play due to the ball 'touching' the net without missing. The second time she serves she basically hit a new first serve, then the third was the second serve because she missed the previous one. Got it?
Reminder this was a doped up Sharapova against a Serena with the flu. And Serena still beat her in two sets. Sharapova was suspended for the drug enhancers she had been using.

Iv not once said that sharapova is a better player than Serena not once. Iv not said she is better , as iv said and il day again they are both amazing . The box on the other side of the net is not bigger for her. She still has to get it between the lines and knows how to paint the lines. They both just experienced some nerves at points, but longtime tennis watchers understand that has happened to the best of them for many decades now - if not always.
