Serena Williams defeated Victoria Azarenka 6-2, 2-6, 7-5 in the US Open 2012 final. It took Williams two hours and 18 minutes to battle her way to victory in three sets in what would be the first of two, back-to-back US Open finals between the pair.

@IanJD71 Very funny comment. Most top athletes have unique physical advantages that separate them from the rest. It's like saying Davenport won less because she didn't have Steffi Graf's movement. I don't have a problem if you feel Steffi is better, but using Serena's power against her is ridiculous. The are some players who were more powerful than Serena but won less.
The US Open 2012 and 2013 Women's Finals will forever remain one of the most high quality finals in history! Victoria Azarenka was probably the only person who could go toe to toe against Serena who was in her prime back then.
Don't forget the 8-6 headto head split between Serena and Henin.

Thank you so much for this! This match was so such a thriller! I so thought Vika was about to win when she was up 5-3, but Serena Williams has ALWAYS been the Queen of Comebacks! You seriously CAN NOT count her out until the last point! This match is DEFINITELY one of my favorites to watch!

I was at this match with my niece! I thought Serena was going to lose and didn't want to see it. I drag my niece out of the stadium and quickly walked down the stairs, out to the field area, making our way on the boardwalk to the train. My niece was listening still on the AMEX headphone and she was laughing at me. When we got on the train, someone said Serena WON, and I was like no way! My niece smiled and said, we should have stayed! I regretted leaving but I felt I was like Hancock in some way and the further I went the more power she had to win (LOL - the thinking of a fan). I've watched this match and the 2013 match over and over again. Best match by the two ladies at the US Open in a while and high quality! One of my favorite memories going to the US Open and watching Serena play!

In any case the judge's decision was absolutely wrong. Repeating the point would only make sense if Serena thought it was out. There is no way one can be distracted by call that comes after she hit the ball.

This kind of hitting that I never see a lot recently from Serena, she nowadays slowdown changed her intensity & powerful serve & game. After she gave birth I dnt see her sharpness anymore & I miss like this kind of focus she hand out in a game. Wow Azarenka was really 2 points away from this title, and served for it... Serena served and returned way better and that’s why she won cause Vika was playing really well. Vika needed some more first serves and a few less errors and she would have won
