  • Would you believe the most awkward part of that turret was machining the small lug that sets the escape hatch orientation 😅 Glad it's all gone together well 👍

    • @tonys_workshop I am indeed. I have been watching along, its nice to see the build going together, with a view from the other end of the spectrum. Sometimes you all surprise me with your choices of how some parts should fit together, but its all taken on board for current and future production runs.

  • Hi Tony, same as you, I could not wait to get to the turret build. It is such a great piece of the kit. If I remember correctly, Armortek states it weighs about 13kg. I did not put any of the protruding parts on the top of it until I had the electronics done inside of it since it was going to be easier to do it with the turret upside down, and those antenna mounts, and machine gun sight might have been damaged. But they can be removed of course. The series of screws across the front top of the turret that you mentioned you were not putting on yet, I don't think they have anything to do with the canvas cover you are thinking of doing. I am in the design process of doing that as well since my tank is now complete for the most part except for more detail work I am adding. The canvas/tarp cover goes way over those screws and actually over the hooks on both the top of the turret and the mantlet. It is going to be challenging figuring out how to make the attachments. I am sure you would have noticed this when you got to it. It seems those screws just held on that section of the casting onto the turret itself. In our kits, it was molded as one pice, but on the real tank, it is a separate piece. I think I could spend a year adding small details to this kit, as good as it is. I just finished scratch building a spotlight for the top of the turret and a siren that mounts on the fender. I also added chain links to all the gas caps, and a set of springs on the loaders hatch. Good luck with the electronics when you get them.

On a side note, I don't think you realized where I lived when you said you would send that spare might 34 you had for the tiger! You are doing a great job, and I am so glad to have met you! Thanks , David.

    • Hi David, thanks for commenting and your continued support. The kit detailing took about 6 hours, then about an hour for the mock welding. Very straight forward part of the build and very enjoyable. I would be happy to send this to you..it's very light (being plastic) and small so should be good to go anywhere in the world. I am sure you told me in the past...but anyway...it is still here and you are still welcome to it.

  • Hi Tony, wow, another great build video! I did speak with ARMORTEK today and worked out details for a M26 kit order. Did I see in one of your videos, or did my “sometimers” disease kick in again, a .50 caliber Browning machine gun kit for the turret top? From ARMORTEK or another vendor? Thanks again, cheers.

    • Hi, sorry about the delay in responding...it has been a nightmare week at work...The 50 cal MG is by a company called Armorpax...They do so many after market enhancements for the Armortek kits and the MG kit for this kit is insane...I show you the build of this next week. I hope that you have finalised your order on the M26 as the kit is an absolute privilege to work on. Hope my build vids will help you. Thank you for watching and commenting.

  • Just watching the turret rotate freely is so satisfying, I have to wonder how you'll mask off the vision blocks in the cupola for painting, would it have been easier to paint first, since they're installed from inside? Really looking forward to the gun installation

    @jeffturnbull9661@jeffturnbull96619 ай бұрын
    • Hi Jeff, thank you for watching and commenting and your continued support. I did contemplate that, but then the green paint would show through the clear acrylic. I think the raw metal looks better as it more translucent and gives the impression of the inside of the tank.

  • Going by the turret alone, that's going to be a real heavyweight scale model when its completed! I'd guess about 200lbs with batteries, Tony won't be able to just pick it up...he'll need jacks! laughs out loud! The real M26 Pershing was only slightly heavier at just over 41 tons!

    @TheGeezzer@TheGeezzer9 ай бұрын
    • Armortek calculate the total weight including the batteries, motors etc is between 80kg and 100kg. The Tiger is over 120kg...these bad boys are heavy. Jacks and ramps required as there is no lifting possible. Thank you for watching, commenting and your continued support, it is very much appreciated.

      @tonys_workshop@tonys_workshop9 ай бұрын
    • @@tonys_workshop Well, I went to Armortek site to fact-check, they say 180lb with batteries and all accessories. They're also priced as I thought! about a grand over actually (with the VAT) but its a lot of model for the money! Maybe your next build will be the famous Hetzer t38.

  • Wow! Staggering progress in a single episode. Your tank is really looking the part now, and the turret truly is an amazing lump of metal. I'm looking forward to seeing the barrel installed. You mentioned the recoil - have you got the kit for that yet? I'd love to see you building the machine gun, and I'm surprised that Armortek don't offer a kit themselves. I hope the weather doesn't get in the way of the rest of the painting. 👍

    @keith-morgan@keith-morgan9 ай бұрын
    • Thanks Keith. The turret really did bring the progress along nicely. Just waiting on delivery of the recoil, smoke and sound packs from Armortek. The 50 Cal MG is something else....I have a video of this up soon and it looks incredible....so realistic and heavy with a few articulated parts as well. I think after market things like the MG, Armortek leave that up to the builder to personalise their build in the way they want. It is a relatively inexpensive add on. Glad you enjoyed this video and thanks for your continued support.

    • Have you started your build yet?

      @tonys_workshop@tonys_workshop9 ай бұрын
    • I've been unpacking and sorting things ready for assembly - but a few things adrift in my delivery, unfortunately. Monique at Armortek is sorting it out as a priority. Currently waiting on all the screws etc which is a bit of a hindrance to say the least. I'm going to crack on with the grilles in readiness, I think, pending the arrival of the missing bits...

      @keith-morgan@keith-morgan9 ай бұрын
    • Wow, that is a bad oversight on their part. I am sure they will prioritise this for you as they should. Starting at the grilles is a good option, but you also need fixings for those...You can measure and cut the rods in readiness, perhaps also clean up all the parts and prime up some of the large sections ahead of assembly as well. I hope they get you these parts as quick as possible.

      @tonys_workshop@tonys_workshop9 ай бұрын
    • Thanks Tony - Worse things can happen. I'm sure it will all get sorted quickly, and I have every faith in Armortek to put it right. I was planning on taking my time with the build anyway. In the meantime I've also been strengthening my workbench and repairing my compressor and dusting off my sprayguns. I'm also getting ahead of myself - after your comment in the latest video - by trying an Action Man for size in the cupola hatch 😃

    • Hi Paul, thank you for watching and commenting. This is very much part of the journey when working on these kits. I actually enjoy having to carry out some fettling and mods as it makes it more personal. The manufacturing quality from Armortek is exceptional, but with all things which are born out of a cast, there is work to be done.
