Join me as I set off on another epic tank build. This time the incredible 1/6 scale Hetzer or Jagdpanzer 38 tank by Armortek.
In this video - I show you how to add mock scale welding to the tank ahead of painting. This detailing really elevates the finish of these incredible kits.
Hope you enjoy

  • Tony, for doing welds, I bought a $10 clay extruder on the web that will extrude many shapes and diameter sizes that are prefect for welds. It makes a nice consistent long string of Miliput. This will save you half the time it takes to do welds. Good luck on the rest of the build.

    • Not sure what a clay extruder is. Could you post a link here? Thanks from Germany!

    • Hi Ray, great to hear from you. I never even knew such a thing existed.

    • I didn't either - but a search on a well known auction site for 'DIY Craft Pottery Clay Extruder' returned hundreds, and one is now on its way to me from China, so Thanks Ray and Tony👍@@tonys_workshop

  • Hi Tony! Amazing tutorial on large scale tank welding! Thank you for sharing! On my 1/35 tank builds I use a similar product called „magic sculp“. I think adding water before positioning the putty is not needed. It might even enable the putty to glide, and it may hold better in place without. Doing my builds I keep my sculpting tools „wet“ using alcohol instead of water, as water dissolves the putty, and alcohol doesn’t. Just my five cents, mate. 🙂

    • Thank you. All good ideas mate and I appreciate getting comments from experienced builders as it helps me develop my own skills, so please keep them coming. Your support is invaluable to me. Thank you and have a great rest of the weekend.

  • Hi Tony. The welding modeling this time is a very rewarding task. I also welded and zimmerated the T1, but it wasn't as good as Tony's speed-up. I think it would be best to use plastic wrap for the top plate. I would like to see more of Hetzer before moving on to the next tank.

    • Hi and thank you. Adding these details really do add to the realism on these incredible kits. I have more work still left to do on the Hetzer and hope you continue to follow the progress to the end.

  • Tony: Nice video and did the putty job on an older build and my KT here has its welds and zimmerat all layered on it. Best wishes as you come to completion.

  • Hi Tony, just a suggestion. When you roll out the putty, use another piece of acrylic to achieve a more even diameter. It will be much easier. The build is looking amazing! I'm looking forward to the finished product and seeing it play with the other tanks. Thanks as always for sharing this with us. Cheers!

  • Thanks for sharing the detail of your work in this tutorial, Tony. It's clear to see from the results at the end that it's worth every second that you've put into it. I'm looking forward as always to the next session. I must say that when I embarked on my M26 build I had no intention other than to simply build the kit as supplied, paint it and get it running, but now that I've seen how you and Ray have massively increased the realism of your builds with relatively simple modifications - I'm hooked👍 I've also now got an Armorpax M2 machine gun and mount kit waiting for attention as per one of your earlier videos, so I'll be interested to see you accessorising the Hetzer along with any painting technique Masterclasses you'd care to share. Cheers 👍

    • Thank you Keith, your supportive comments are always very much appreciated. As I touched on in this video, the greatest thing about this hobby in my opinion is that each builder can add and enhance their build to put their own stamp on it. I believe this is what Armortek hope we do. Ray is another level and I love his attention to detail… he is way better than me and he helped me through my M26 as he was ahead of the game and flagged some of the issues before I got to that stage. This is such an addictive hobby, but I love it. I am still working through ideas in finishing but I want to step this up from my previous builds. Have a great rest of the weekend (building your M26 hopefully)

  • Good job as always! I have found that keeping the modeling tools wet helps to keep the milliput on the model, as well as keeping it from sticking to your fingers! I think when i get to the roof of my tiger, i will try tapping plastic wrap to the turret, do the welding, and hopefully when removing the roof the weld will stay in place on the roof. Also, are you planning to conceal the screw heads that wouldn't have been on the real tank! Thanks for your build.

    @davidligon2003@davidligon2003Ай бұрын
    • Thanks David. I’m still developing my skills in the welding area and you are right with keeping the tools wet, it does help. Good idea on the turret plate.. I think that will work well. No plans to fill the screws on the hull as there is not that many on show on this model. The Tiger does, however when painted I didn’t really notice them unless close up. I was worried at the time in case I ever needed to get to them, turns out I did not so if I did it over again I probably would. Thanks for your continued support.

    @raystarr4388@raystarr4388Ай бұрын
    • Hi Ray and thank you. From what I can see in my reference book, no welding to this part, although I was tempted 🤔

  • Hi Tony , again another nice work. Can I ask about the air raid light mounted on the left corner of the frontal armour. Is it a white metal part from the Amorpax , but included in the kit?

    @LerhChang@LerhChangАй бұрын
    • Hi and thank you. This is an upgrade from Armorpax, but there is a basic one included in the Armortek kit which is more than adequate. I ordered the upgrade for the light, jack block and MG mount separately from Armorpax. Hope this helps.

  • Having seen you do the 'fake weld' I definitely want to add that to mine. The only bit I am not sure about is the bead along the roof line, isn't the chance of damage too great when taking the roof off?

    @daniel_scholefield@daniel_scholefieldАй бұрын
    • Hi Daniel, and thanks for commenting. This does really add to the final look and worth doing. I thought long and hard about the roof welding for that very reason, and yes there is a chance of knocking the bead and chipping but I still think it’s worth doing. These tanks get knocks and damage all the time when using them, but a touch up every now and then sorts that out. I would recommend doing the roof beads but attach to the hull so the roof lifts off clean. Once the electronics are complete, access to the inside is rarely needed. Hope this helps.

  • I cheat when I apply fake weld. I just put Bondo fill or similar in a syringe body and squirt it into the seams, by pausing and starting you get a perfect welding semicircular look. and its fast.
