As of today (11/11/23), the Ergotron HX with the HD pivot does not support this monitor. The pivot still droops.
Easy fix just use a screw , coin or something to jam it in place.
Correct, you will need to stick a couple screws (I used drywall) to wedge between the gap of the HD Pivot bracket to keep it from drooping. No drilling required, but obviously this is not a supported or recommended solution direct from Ergotron's support. They are aware of the issue with this large of a panel, but so far there is no ETA as to if/when a heavier duty HD pivot bracket will be released. This is information I obtained from their chat Support off their website 11/20/23.
yeh i email them, kinda rude, reply.@@techdude82
Thank you, I needed to know this!
$100 vivo arm on amazon supports it
This is the best review on this monitor by far. I appreciate the amount of detail put into this.
Thank you for your support , I tried to put as much useful information as I could into it.
For real! 💯
Thank you for this. I love reviews like this where it's quiet, detailed, and no idiotic music in the background.
This is pure gold!!! 1st actual review instead of infomercials/previews as elsewhere. Keep it up m8, with this quality you'll get much further than most.
As of today (11/19/2023), this is best review on this monitor. What I liked about this review is that he didn't saturate it with arguments to help people like or don't like the product; instead, he gave you "raw" data and allowed you to comfortably make an informed decision. This is how a review should be done, really appreciate it. There were no personal preferences in his review, just data/facts. I listened to a reviewer today reviewing this monitor and he spent so much time talking about the "matte finish" of the monitor. I don't mind him bringing it up, but that's a personal preference, state it in the review on move on. Not everyone uses a monitor in a lit room.
the other guy that reviewed this monitor (The Display Guy) annoyed the f*ck out of me.
Thank you for showing all the different resolution scaling! This is all I wanted to see that other videos reviewing this monitor don't show
You’re welcome, I always get that question in my monitor reviews so I made it a point to test for this one.
This is one of the best in-depth reviews I have ever seen on KZhead. Thanks for sharing.
Best in depth review without all the flashy filler. All the info most people REALLY wanted. THANKS!
Thank you so much for this video and review!!! I've been eyeing this monitor for a while but was failing to find a good review on it. Your review is well detailed with EVERYTHING one could possibly enquire! I hope every reviewer will use this as a guide in future so we can have more reliable reviews!
Struggled to find a good review about this monitor and you did an outstanding job in delivering it. Specifically on very different aspects that are important for me to consider buying it. That gave me more confidence to reconsider the 49 OLED Odyssey which is worth it to not at least lose its aspects given certain conditions like how this one does. I'm using BenQ XR3501 since close to its release that's like 7-8 years ago, give or take. I've tried many monitors and I'm glad I got this one and still using it because it's worth every cent I've paid for it. But now it started giving me horizontal lines which I haven't yet checked if it's my graphic card or it just aged more than enough lol. 2 years I'm searching for a monitor and just couldn't find a better overall than this. The only thing its missing is some more speed to catch up with the current generation monitors, have 5120 x 2160 resolution or higher (adding more inches if that's even possible), and an HDR.
i think this is the best review video of this monitor i have ever seen. thank you so much for your time and effort.
In the past hour, I watched ten-twelve so-called reviews of this monitor. This was the first time I watched a review for a monitor of any kind. Up until the point I watched yours, I was amazed at the stupidity of people to talk about the monitor while having their backs to it. You are the only SANE reviewer to actually work with the monitor, show the menus, the lights, PiP, scaling, and all those other stuff. Congrats sir.
yet he doesnt know that it isnt 8k lol
To explain the performance difference in Forza: 4K is more pixels than 5120x1440, which is not 5K, its just 2x 1440p. On the same note this monitor is not 8K, its double 4K. Great overview!
3840x2160 is not 4k its just 1x 2160p
@@asc3nsion100 While true 4k is 4096, everyone calls 3840x2160 4k, so what BTTMagicT said is technically correct.
@@ForsakenFenix no this monitor is actually 6k not 8k
@@ForsakenFenix it is as technically correct as calling 5120x1440 "5k"
@@asc3nsion100 If you are going off width alone yes, but with 32:9 monitors they should be called dual plus their height or in this case Dual 4k because it's 2 4k monitors (and by 4k I mean 3840x2160) side by side basically. Or we call them Ultrawide plus height for 21:9 and super Ultra Wide plus Heigth For 32:9
Amazingly thorough review! The best review on a monitor I've ever watched!
hands down the best review of this monitor I've seen. Thanks!
Looking forward to more monitor reviews, this was great.
I really appreciate your video. Thanks for going into so much detail! Nearly every one I've watched on KZhead has felt more like an ad and I imagine because it's probably sponsored by Samsung... Yours is the most helpful I've watched.
You're very welcome! Thank you for your support and your comment. It means a lot.
Liked and subscribed. This video played a large part in my decision to get this monitor. Excellent and very detailed review. Thank you.
I really like your layman's style review format with pertinent and useful real-world information.
Thank you for the feedback and support Jason, much appreciated.
Thanks a lot for doing a Mac related productivity walkthrough fo this monitor with so many amazingly useful details when weighing the pros and cons!
Thanks for this thorough and thoughtful review. I have one of these ordered and was on the fence on whether to keep the order.
This is the most amazing review i have ever seen of a product. Thank you.
This is an excellent monitor review, I really feel like I know it in and out. Thanks!
Bravo, the best explanation in full on the monitor
Absolutely amazing review ! Thank you for thi!
Bro.... this is the best video I've seen of this monitor. Now I can see the scale. Thanks.
Thank you for the comment and your support. It’s awesome to know the time and effort I put in to show all these details are helping viewers.
BEST REVIEW! I have seen period! Nice coverage 👊🏾
I appreciate that!
very well done review! never seen something good like this.
Great video. Effective communication of information and thank you so much for not having background audio. 👍🇦🇺
Really good review you have man I like it keep going what you doing
Thank you for your support! I appreciate you.
Measurements were super helpful. Thanks!
Fantastic review! Very detailed and informative.
Thank you for the best review, you answer almost common questions, Thank you,
You answered all my questions Thanks 😊
Thanks for the detailed review! For the black screws that connect the arm to the Samsung mount piece (e.g. 6:27 in the video), do you attach a nut in the back also or is just that screw holding the pieces together?
Excellent video -- thanks for your time. This is the way product videos ought to be done: factual, organized, and straight forward. Easy to skip over the parts that don´t apply to my situation. Now you need to make a video for other hardware "influencers" to teach them how to do it right!
Exceptional in depth review. I watched several covering this monitor and this is the most thorough and concise. Once Samsung resolves the switching bug and comes out with a black back on this monitor, money will transfer from my pocket to them. I am passing on this monitor for now based on the noted issues and power supply problems that have been reported on a number of reviews by other owners.
Excellent review. Thank you amigo! :)
Very Informative! Thank you sir
wow man you got a beast mode setup lol. very nice. Also really appreciate your content.
Best review! Love the wallpaper.
Thank you!
Great video, and absolutely right about the PPI, definitely a non-negotiable for me. Still waiting on an DUHD IPS version for me though. Not super into 1000R curve so I'd be happiest with 120Hz+ at 49"
For this size and aspect ratio R1000 is much better than flat or R1500/R1800. People complain and miss this curve in G9 OLED, for example.
Very informative I’m about to unbox
Only part way into this video but I appreciate the thoroughness of this review ... if I am spending $2500 on something that I want to last a while, I want to know EVERYTHING about it. Thanks!
Thanks for the video We start to know why so many of our customers asking us whether our chair cockpit can support the Samsung G9 . The answer is YES! We can support 2 of them together !we have real photos for the setup
great video and review - thank you
Bravo on that review
Why in the world would you want speakers in a monitor? Added cost, thickness, weight, and heat.
At this price point you can spend $20 on external speakers
@@viber7464 Please don't. Just get some proper speakers. Not some Logitech Pebbles. Vanatoo T0+, Monolith MTM-100, Kanto YU4, etc.
Absolutely correct. My desktop speakers blow anything Samsung could have done out of the water and it’s thick enough as is.
I don't need speakers for 99% of my usage but on occasions I want to show something to a friend. Then it's nice to have any speakers at all, and I don't want to clutter my desk with an audio system that I never use.
It continues to blow my mind people expect in-built speakers to come with their premium monitor. If you've got $2500 for a monitor, you absolutely won't be satisfied with a tacky speaker add-on. The quality just won't match; as you said it's merely added expense, weight, and etc. that would be bypassed. I mean really, I'm >$6k into a simple 3.1 audio setup already, and my sub cost as much as this monitor. I could add another $6k worth of surround. I don't want tinny crap tacked on to a top-of-class monitor; nor does anyone want to pay an extra $1k for a soundbar-tier system to come with this monitor, which it would need in order to do it justice. Anything less would be egregious, so they made the right move to not put them in. That's why Paganis don't come with cheap plastic cups or some such, but rather hand-stitched premium leather luggage, and nothing less. Better nothing than cheap crap.
Agree with many other commenters...great detailed review!! It would be nice if monitor manufacturers and monitor accessory (arm) manufacturers better coordinate with each other about the launch of a new product... now Ergotron e.g. is behind on a nice solution (they say they are working on a solution). Not every desk is suitable for the supplied standard...😕
Thank you for your support Patrick, it means a lot. I totally agree, Not having a suitable monitor arm for this size monitor can be very problematic. I contacted ergotron and they said that they might look into designing one in the future? And its not even the whole arm that needs to be designed, thats what gets me. The arm that I'm using is actually capable of holding the weight of the monitor without issue, its the cheap head that connects to the monitor thats the issue. All they would need to do is beef up the same head they use for the 49in and I would think it would work. There is no way the majority would be able to use this monitor with the stand that it comes with.
Hi, thanks for your video. do you think it works well wit M1 Pro Max, laptop ??
What webcam would you recommend for use with this monitor? Is the monitor thick enough at the top to support a webcam titled down?
so, for those trying to get 120 Hz when in BPP mode and have an Nvidia card, you need to scroll down to the PC section in the resolution setting of the NVIDIA control panel. There, you will be able to change the refresh rate to 120 HZ. For some reason, there are two resolution sections, the top being ultra HD, HD, and SD, which only gives you 60Hz and lower, whereas the section called PC allows for 120 HZ. I have an RTX 4090 and use HDMI ports for my PC and work laptop
I may have missed it, but were you using HMDI inputs for both the PC and MAC? Did you do any testing on DP input. I use 2 DP inputs on my 49" Samsung 5120x1440 for dual monitor operation on my PC. Not restricted to 60 Hz. Also, I am curious about the calibration report. Great and thorough review.
Unfortunately, this monitor only has one DisplayPort, so you are forced to use a HDMI port also for PBP!
Excellent review!
Thanks. Would be nice to know how the monitor performs on a M3 max MacBook Pro.
Any updated thoughts on this since you’ve had it for a little while? Also great video sir. Extremely in depth and by far the best review of this monitor so far. I recently went from an AW3423DW to the new AW3225QF along with a neo G8 32” that I grabbed on sale as a 2nd monitor and mounted them side to side. While the oled on the Alienware is stunning, I really missed having the extra real estate when gaming but didn’t want to go back to using 1440p 21:9 as I think that’s just a waste for the 4090. Also the Neo G8 has some serious blooming issues as well so I decided I’m just going to return both the Alienware and Neo G8. After watching this video, I honestly think this is the best monitor for my use case. Has two 32” 4k panels combined, 240hz and it seems like the blooming/white cloud effect is minimal at best while still maintaining excellent black levels. Mines coming in on Wednesday, excited to try it out!
Thank you, I'll have to buy it I guess... btw, two comments: 1. this is the best review by far, and also this is not 8K... it is dual 4K, 8K is quad 4K.
I realise that this is now quite an old KZhead video and this comment may go unseen but if I could possibly ask a question... I have been wanting to get one of these monitors to use in PBP mode using an existing PC that has Dual DisplayPort outputs ... when using the monitor in PBP mode I know you said that there was "tearing" where the two logical displays butted up together when using HDMI and Displayport but was there any difference in colour balance between the two logical displays? I've looked at a couple of the 49" monitors and this has been an issue when driven in this way - there is a clearly visible line down the middle of the display where the two logical screens don't seem to be being driven by the same colour look-up-tables. If there is I'll just have to grab an Intel ARC or Battlemage card and run single DisplayPort from that. Hope that you see this after all this time...
Objectivly, light bleed on pitch black dont mind me at all.. but just me, im getting mine in the upcomming week. Thank you for the review imma get so happy !
Hi, Good day, sir hope you notice my question, If I use Picture by Picture mode, mac and PC while on duty hours my company requires to use HUBSTAFF its a monitoring app the takes screenshots of my screen! so if Im using mac for work and PC for gaming at the same time, will the Hubstaff take screenshot for both screens at the same time? or just the screen of my mac since hubstaff is install only on my mac.
Great review thank you so much. I wonder what 4090 can do with frame generation on 7680x2160p. That would be a good topic for another video. (It's a big shame 4090 doesn't have DP 2.1 btw)
I need to follow all the other comments, this is a proper review and clearly samsung is not sending this monitor for free to lots of other youtubers to get fake reviews either 😅. I have the 49 version which I use for my sim racing rig and I have a 34 oled alienware on my pc. I am super tempted to upgrade the sim racing rig to this given the bigger real estate e and the additional resolution, however I really struggle to swallow the cost of £2200 and having to go back to 120hz even with a rtx4090 (which on iRacing can easily do 200fps...). Also quality control issues seem to be super frequent with samsung (my 49 makes so much popping noises...) However there is no competition at this point in time in the market (and nothing similar on the horizon either..)
another question - for things like Razer keyboards and mice that have integrated software for further control surface. How does that inerplay with the USB hub on the monitor. I believe you said earlier that devices plugged directly into the monitor can be used to control both systems
Any chance you can see if a usb hub can work hooked to the usb port on the monitor to get more usb ports for the kvm feature?
Does this monitors support HDCP 2.2? Of course I will be using this mostly for work & gaming BUT I would also want to watch 4k UHD DVD’s and Netflix at 4k on Windows 11. Thanks
Have you tried enabling G-Sync in NVCP? Do you get flickering when enabled?
Excellent review, tx
Good thorough review, thank you! Looking to pick one up to replace a G9 49. 1440 is too little height.
At last someone making an in-depth review of the monitor. Great video sir. I can tell you that the biggest deception of this monitor is that 240hz mode is not working with gsync, regardless of what nvidia control panel indicates. I have been trying and trying to no avail. I’m at firmware 1003, I would like to know what has been your experience with this. I am also running a RTX 4090 and I cannot make custom resolutions either. This is the monitor of monitors but Samsung quirks are astonishing. No other brand can shit on a product like Samsung can. We would probably need a North Korean monitor brand to match the number of bugs that this monitor has. The only problem is that it is indeed the pinnacle of monitors. Just the game brightness is enough to replace any oled. I wish that a proper company would make such gadgets but it is only Samsung that pushes boundaries apparently
Are you saying that 240 Hz does not work with Gsync? I’m currently playing RoboCop rogue city and the GS indicator is showing on the monitor suggesting that G sink is working. I’m on 51 20 x 14 40 resolution and on 240 Hz.
@@HighTechCheckyes exactly. G sync is not working if any resolution/refresh rate is set on the 240hz monitor mode. You can quickly test this with the g sync pendulum demo. You will see tearing even though you toggle gsync on nvidia control panel. I’m pretty confident that you have the same problem and pretty much any one that bought this monitor. I caught this problem because I’m very sensitive to smoothness and I tried everything that this monitor has to offer. It would be great that you could put this to test and report back cause I predict a flood of complaints when customers get their hands on these monitors. It happens to the previous G9s according to forums. Thanks in advance and great video
I made a video to show you what I'm seeing, let me know if this is different from what you have yours set to. kzhead.info/sun/irGKitRubXiXnJE/bejne.html
@@joanhernandezciriza3797 I think the issue is with the rtx card. I read somewhere Nvidia is working with Samsung to solve the issue. This doesn't happen with an amd card using dp or hdmi.
@@tchlinyes could be the case but it is really strange that g sync works at the 120hz mode regardless de resolution and r refresh rate. In these modes I’m using the full connection bandwidth and gsync works, so definitely not a bandwidth limitation. It must be a bugg or just Samsung giving you the middle finger
Sir, I have a Icore 7 with a MSI GFORCE RTX graphics card. I'm concerned I don't have enough bandwidth to run this monitor. Is that enough?
I've got to say I've never used a curved monitor or television for that matter, I need it for video editing and light gaming. I do like the 55-in arc better. What do you guys suggest
Do you have solutions for an M1 User to push more then 5K out ? or is it possible to run 2 x 4K would de M1 support that ?
Is it true that it doesn't handle sleep to wake up monitor activation and you would end up having to restart the PC just to get the signal to activate the monitor?
nice very complete review
Just saw this. got me to sub. thanks
My ergotron holds it ok. No screws needed. MaybeI just got lucky. With the monitor removed, tighten the pivot weight set screw all the way tight. I actually took the pivot of the arm itself and such it to the monitor, then careful attach the pivot back to the arm. Been working for a couple months now.
How can you run it at 240Hz?! Even with DP2.1 you do not have enough throughput for it right? DP2.1 is maxed out at 77.37 Gbps afaik At 10bit colour depth (3x10 because 3 colour channel): 7680 x 2160 x 3 x 10 x 240 bit bandwidth per second = 119.439... Gbps At 8bit colour depth: 7680 x 2160 x 3 x 8 x 240 = 95.551... Gbps Both are more than the cable can handle based on my understanding. Did I get anything wrong?
Does yours have the issue of diagonal scan lines being visible on light colours?
Basicly you can have 230hz on PBP (split screen) :) You just have to add custom resolution in Nvidia Control Panel. On my 49 Neo G9 i created 2560x1440 with 230Hz because it wont work on half of the screen with 240Hz.
I have a 4090 and I was wondering if it works with gsync or does the adaptive sync wori with AMD and Nvidia?
I hope you also applied the firmware update during this review. 1003 is the current version we are using
Hoping to get the answer to this as well. Very solid review on this very new device however.
I would like to see an in depth video on the picture by picture feature.
So can you not use quick res or something Simlar on osx to change to 8k resolution
Love the review. Only critique is calling it "8K". It is only 8k wide and 4k vertical, so pixel density would appear the same as a standard aspect ratio 4k monitor
I thought the nvidia cards wouldn't work for 240hz as they didn't carry DP 2.1. Also - did you point out the service USB as an actual usable USB port?
Thank you for providing a very good overview of this monitor. I plan to buy this monitor for myself as well, and it's very important that both PC and Mac support it. I do not plan to purchase it until Nvidia's newer generation GPUs are out, which do not have those legacy HDMI and DisplayPorts, and I hope that by that time, Samsung will already have version 2 of this monitor out and Ergotron will have a monitor stand that supports this monitor. I hope it will be the end of this year.
How is the text sharpness compare to the LG 5k screen?
Hi. How is the gaming at 5120x1440? How is that resolution given its not native??
if you drop the resolution to 1440p can it be more than 60hz in pbp
what camera is attached on top of the monitor?
Can you play 5K centered and then 2 windows either side from other device?
This video was excellent in how it is in-depth with information and not trying to be “morning zoo” entertaining. One thing I’d like the author to be aware of is how I spent most of the video assured of your expertise, but lost that confidence when you struggled to describe light bleeding from bright areas to the dark areas. “Bloom” and “halo” are standard terms, so it was a bit concerning not to hear them. Maybe it would be beneficial when encountering something like this to do a search to provide you with names and descriptions? To reiterate: I do not wish to hurt any feelings and only intend for this comment to be constructive. Thank you for the video.
Is there way to switch to mac or pac with keys stroke ?
I m really confused by all the different models. What is the best G9?
Thank you for this great, valuable and useful review. I think I will go for this beast but probably with a 7900XTX for getting 240Hz support at native resolution, at least in theory. ;-) On the other hand I am frustrated about the poor RT support with AMD GPUs. Btw, at 26:18: It makes sense that native 4k (3840 x 2160) leads to lower FPS than DualQHD (5120 x 1440). It´s almost +1Mio. Pixel at 4k
Could you test games at maximum settings, with full resolution and HDR on, and tell me the FPS you get?
I watch this video in 4k why when you zoom, is very dificult read the numbers broo😮...but super video❤
47:10. Perhaps you should consider to an EDID manager to prevent from the Mac Studio to lose signal
Thinking about swapping out my triple 55" LG OLED screens for one of these. The triples are better BUT this thing would be easier as a single monitor and take less space...
Noone is testing this monitor when rotated into Portrait Mode ("cockpit" mode on the "Ark"). I am pretty certain the resolutions, refresh rates, and Picture-in-Picture (PIP) modes are extremely limited. NEED this test from anyone with this monitor that has two machines (or three machines). Before folks call this out as niche or "no-one would use that!"... We DO. Our presentation and advertising use-cases are limited to other monitors that are throttled in this way, currently. Question: When rotated into Portrait mode, splitting the screen with PIP, what resolutions and refresh rates are still accessible?
