  • Excellent review! I really appreciate your attention to detail and you encapsulate the real-world user experience very well! I can’t wait for Samsung to release the 57” OLED version of this monitor (wishful thinking, but chances are good). I previously had the odyssey 49” G97T and recently upgraded to the 49” oled, and it’s 100% amazing. I fully respect your concern for burn in, and I was also in the same camp before choosing the oled version of the 49”, but I think living with a bit of risk for the sake of indulgence regarding choices with screens has become more appealing the older I’ve gotten (I also bought the extended warranty with burn-in coverage, just in case lol). The oled experience has been unmatched, full stop. BG3, and other games I’ve previously played, feel completely new to me. The detail you pointed out with the mouse cursor almost disappearing in dark parts of the screen reminds me of the experiences I’ve had with Samsung televisions and “black crush” with scene details due to overly aggressive darkening algorithms. I’ve previously bought Samsung’s 4K Q90 series TVs, and I currently have an 8K Q900, and both have similar tendencies with over-darkening and blooming due to the intrinsic nature of local dimming (I’ve changed any settings you can think of, including service menu settings). Personally, as a video enthusiast, I’m fed up with dealing with local dimming issues and oled has changed me into a true believer. A 57” oled monitor would be amazing! Anyways, you’re doing great work! Your video was a pleasure to watch.

I use a mac for my day to day (coding), and either swap to my other rig (which is a little outdated now since i don't game that much), so was thinking of getting an epic screen for work and then use cloud compute to game if i ever get back into something. So, text is actually really important to me and i was disappointed you showed more gaming footage when talking about text and macs...

  • I really want to see this monitor thoroughly tested in PBP mode with two cables running from a single 4090. With Nvidia Surround you could then span the displays and regain the single monitor behavior for gaming. It would also allow 16:9 gaming when not spanned and a second monitor for other things. Feels like a win-win.

  • Great review, this almost answered all my questions about this. If possible, any feedback on the below questions would be awesome: 1. You mentioned there are more vertical real estate with this one, but is that only pixel wise or is the physical vertical distance more in cm than the Neo G9? I have the 49" G9 Neo and after a year or so I find myself wanting more vertical picture. Dont get me wrong, the 1000R wrap around is awesome for peripheral vision and all, but I cant help myself feeling more vertical would be sweet. I was thinking my next monitor would be the 45" OLED from LG, but almost all reviewers say the pixelation at typical desk distance was very noticable. 2. One problem I had with my 49" Neo G9 was scanlines when using 240hz, HDR with VRR on it. Its super annoying as it only happened in the top left quadrant of the display with it being more and more prominent with light blue pixels or backgrounds. I even had the panel replaced under warranty but it was still there. My wife has exactly the same monitor and its not an issue on hers. Strangely, if I drop it to 120hz, HDR with VRR, its a lot less noticeable. 3. You mentioned that its very bright. Do you think its similar to the 49" Neo G9? Due to the annoyance of the scanlines I found myself playing without HDR often and the 49" Neo G9 felt brighter in a lot of the games that way. So I loved the visual experience of HDR but it was often better overall when playing without. Perhaps its like you said a Windows 11 HDR issue more than the panel, but I guess in the end its all about the end user experience in the environment they design it for.

    @armadaza@armadaza8 ай бұрын
    • 1. about 2 inches more physical and resolution size. 2. No scanlines, this has been finally fixed 3. I think this is as bright if not more, I dont think many games take good advatage of HDR, more or less I would say there are only a handfull of games that do.

  • The Displayport on the Oled G9 is DP1.4a with DSC. It does support 5120x1440 at 240Hz, and in the case of the Neo G8, 3840x2160 at 240Hz. DP1.4 even with DSC does not support the 7680x2160 of the G95NC at 240Hz. That's why it's limited to 120Hz at 10-bit full RGB on a 4090.

There is also a sentence that states "2,392 local dimming zones combine with the highest 12-bit black levels to create unmatched picture quality". Therefore I am currently expecting that it is 12 bit rather than 10 bit. Have you seen anything to clarify if it is 10 bit or 12 bit? Still a bit of a pity as, so far none of the videos/reviews have used it for PC high res gaming with no compression using the DP 2.1 with AMDs fastest 7900XTX. Also the just released 7800 series supports DP 2.1 too which Nvidia did not add to any of their cards yet. That IS the new technology this display offers at its native res which no other monitor offers. Id really like to know how that appears to using DSC. Also interested if you do a follow up video how much better the native res looks over the 1440p on this panel. As in certain titles users may want to reduce the res to maintain framerates.

For HP 1040 G10 x360 laptop could only get 3840x2160@60Hz or 5120x1440@59.977 over HDMI 2.0^ port or a 4K USB-C to HDMI adapter. May try an 8K USB-C to HDMI adapter, but limitations are probably in the embedded Intel Xe Graphics drivers. Probably tapped out at 60Hz for the P5000 card due to bandwidth limits on DisplayPort 1.4. • Hey, to let you know, this monitor is OK for the productivity market. For one, the colors are very saturated, so for instance coloring a video may be off. If you are looking for an ultrawide for productivity, I honestly recommend asus’s ROG 49in monitor. The simplicity of Asus’s Ecosystem is one of the main things I typically point out to my friends. You can practically spend $10k and have a simple and very reliable system, that transfers from work to home so easily.

    • @@AZEOforreal I appreciate your input. I supposed I should have been more detailed in my inquiry. By productivity I meant multiple applications open for documentation, programming, plotting windows, etc. I do not do graphic arts or video editing. I would assume they color saturation, balance, contrast, brightness are all fine tunable parameters like all digital displays for the last 10 years? If not, then Samsung really shot themselves in the proverbial foot. My current setup uses 3 Dell displays giving me 4960x1600 resolution with physical real estate making the 49 inch display too short and barely the same width sans the annoying bezels eating up real estate on my setup. I've held off for this very reason; the 49" would be a downgrade in more than one aspect making the loss of the bezels less than a zero net gain. The 57" however gives me equal physical display height, ~3 inches more per side and much higher resolution. Now that is a win-win-win, etc. Thanks again for your reply and input!!!

    • @@physicsguybrian no worries, I understand your complaint on the 49”. That was why I was looking as well. I used a 49” with two 27” on the side mostly for sim racing and work, and ended up realizing the two monitors were so-so with needs. I ended up going to my local microcenter and trying out the 57” there, and I really loved the size of it, but like I said the color grade, even with the different settings, didn’t exactly match what I was looking for in the end. The productivity was pretty good, though. I used it with excel, and on the side I do 3D modeling on Blender, and it didn’t bog my computer down at all and everything ran crisp and smooth. Like I said, though, I returned it for the color accuracy. It was almost abysmal in my eyes. It was very clear they were pandering to a specific niche, with neon greens and fuchsia esque reds really put me off. I would recommend checking it out in person if you do wish to buy one. It may appeal to you more. Productivity was great.

Samsung has really taken miniLED technology to the next level this time. It outshines the previous generation Neo G9 49 in terms of color vibrancy; it's almost on par with OLED quality. • can the 4090 even push beyond 120hz? even if it did have dsc for 240 it won't be at 10 bit (and there is a difference, probably can't see it anyway since it's still an lcd with local dimming zones instead of self emissive or dual layer). its a matte finish which blurs everything overall in which combined with dimming zones only blurs the clarity more. the color accuracy likely has issues ranging from big to small in several areas like all the other G9's, samsung VA is fast but on such a wide resolution and panel there's bound to be overshoot problems across the refresh rate. the high resolution and standard subpixel arrangement makes up for the clarity drawbacks vs qd oled mentioned above somewhat (big plus) however at the drawback of what would be considered an insane amount of money to spend on a monitor just a decade ago paired with having to spend an insane amount on graphics cards just to maintain a good framerate.. THAT and the FACT that games hardly support 21:9 (stretching on the sides) let alone the trashed immersion from 32:9 unless you spend every waking moment worrying about what games have reverted your ultrawide modifications just to maintain proper 32:9 support whether that be from windows/driver/game updates. I don't understand how G9 owners can tout how amazing these monitors are for gaming when clearly its all about just having an ego trip over and over to relive that initial wow effect when you had to buy something just to have an experience, I've seen these monitors, they're crazy cool, buy one for regular gaming use? fk no

Well-researched and informative video. Speaking of DP, have you tried one of the Thunderbolt to HDMI 2.1 adapters to at least get native resolution at 60hz on the M1 Mac? I would expect this to most likely not work either, but with Apple you never know for sure :) No idea why Apple had to limit even the Mac Studio in such a way, only for them to enable entry model M2 computers to do 8k without a problem. Just Apple things I guess.

    • Just doing some more research: there are DP 1.4 adapters that enable M1 macs to run 4k at 144hz. That requires more bandwidth than 7680x2160 at 60hz would require. However, there could still be a software limitation in place. Would it be possible for you to check if a thunderbolt DP 1.4 adapter allows for driving this monitor at 60hz in native resolution? I am very much considering buying this, but I own two M1 Mac Studios that I really do not want to replace any time soon. I know there are workarounds like using the monitor in split screen mode with two different connectors, which then would even allow you to run it at 120hz. But this also comes with a lot of downsides, like having the dock on the left or right side, having two bars at the top and most importantly: not being able to have any windows in the center, as MacOS will cut off windows hanging "off" one screen instead of showing half on the other. So the experience would be anything but seemless that way.
