it's a perfect scene.
The third one had a pretty great opening as well. When he is scanning people for clothes to wear, he scans a woman and it comes up "INNAPROPRIATE". I thought that was hilarious.

Hands down!!
Great movie. The best Sci fi action movie ever.
Agree
Too far fetched. Not a patch on the first one.
The Terminator and T2 work so well because they are in the same universe, on the same timeline. T1 is a 1984 movie set in 1984; T2 is a 1991 movie set in 1995. Judgement Day is still in the future, and it must happen otherwise there wouldn't be Terminators to travel back in time. All the other movies in the franchise (except for Redemption) are on an alternate branching timelines. The alternate timelines break the rules of the in-movie universe which in turn eliminates the stakes. Dark Fate is the worst - it actually makes T1 and T2 pointless, and establishes the neverending cycle.
people who saw this in the cinema in 1991 had no idea they were to bear witness an indelible masterpiece
At that time I saw it 3 times in the theatre. I was like hypnotized by this outstanding movie, it was a whole new level. Blessed when I look back now.

hardly. you can't even tell which brand it is. in the first one? Gargoyles. that movie plus Dale Earnhardt made those popular. Tom Cruise wearing Raybans in Risky Business? put Raybans on the map. but these just look like any gas station set w/o knowing what they are.
After the first movie all the cool guys had to have Gargoyles.

Classic and iconic this scene shit this movie never gets old
Everyone in the U.S Do you know? I am Korean. When this movie came out, Koreans were shocked. I was shocked by the technology of the United States. North Korea's supreme leader also watched the movie. Kim Jong-il, the former film expert of Kim Il-sung's son, said he could never beat the U.S. after watching Terminator 2. In fact, after the release of the film, the Soviet Union was defeated. I think it was a historical film where the Soviet Union and Japan gave in to the fact that the United States was the world's strongest. Both Soviet officials and Japanese artists surrender. Lastly, it was a movie that my father, who was a Korean police officer who died of pancreatic cancer, liked. Thank you. 😢😢😢
Maybe that was true of the USA back then, but not anymore

Thanks for your post. I'm not sure how he's regarded now, but some of former Korean President Syngman Rhee's family settled in Indianapolis and were neighbors of mine as a child. I often bring up Korea as a possibility for Ukraine when people say Ukraine's position is hopeless. Its a huge country so even half of it is enough to start over.
This scene never gets old. It was filmed and acted perfectly!
They dont make movies like this anymore. Fantastic film
Who “they”? There is only one Cameron.
A few years ago, I showed this movie to my then 15-year-old son for the first time. I had showed him Terminator 1 before and he loved that. I also told him 'the second one is even better, a true action classic' and informed him that 'in the nineties, all the boys your age wanted to see this movie and they _all_ did... multiple times'. I also said the opening scene alone was brilliant. Well, five minutes later jr was convinced his dad had it right.
*Thumbs-down.* That is not the way to approach it with your child or anyone else. You put pressure on your child to agree with you by essentially expecting him to agree with you. You are not to say how "brilliant" you thought the opening scene was before your son saw it. Your son should have watched it first. *Then,* ask him how good the opening scene was and what you thought. Give your son a chance to disagree with you instead of feeding your ego.

yep I went to the theatre to see this, opening night, PACKED!!! the line went all the way out to the parking lot
One of very few movies where the sequel was better than the original
Truth. And this is quite the statement, because the original is a masterpiece as well
The other one is SHREK 2
Shrek 2 Dark Knight Empire Strikes Back
The original was also a masterpiece. Dark, dramatic, tragic and thoughtful...
There's plenty of sequels better than the original. Anyone that says sequels are rarely better or good clearly doesn't watch many movies.
Love all the scan analyses, too fast to read in real time, but highly detailed and amusing to read when examined closely. Indicative of the attention to detail Cameron gave to this film.
When the guy blows the smoke in Arnie's face: carcinogen vapor, and on the side particulate no damage. Nobody in the theater could have read it; only later when you could stop and rewind did you even get a chance to discover these nuggets.
This scene alone is better than 99% of the action movies nowadays!
Wrong. It’s better than 100%

The cigar guy scored very low on the threat assessment chart.

No other movie will or ever beat this. Classic!! Perfection!! Eternal!!
The one thing I wish James Cameron did to keep the suspense going is not play bad to the bone when he came out of the bar. Would've kept people on the edge right until the moment when he met the T1000 in the hallway.

The trailers spoiled the twist back in the day.

Watched this movie three times opening week. Such a great film. Arnold had a period there between 84-93 where he was the box office king. Every summer he’d come out with a blockbuster. I believe the year before this release was Total Recall. Arnold made movie going such a fun experience.

No! The clothes will burn out throughout and his flesh will smell like meat (or plastic since his flesh only combined with 4 layers and less than a gallon of blood) afterward. He will look worse than in the aftermath of a SWAT shootout.

Even if the trailers didn't spoil it at the time, there were too many hints in this opening scene that strongly suggest he's not the bad guy: not killing anyone (especially when he took the gun off the old guy) and Bad to the Bone backdropping his gear.

Action cinema in the 90's. BEST of the BEST.
if you take a look at Black Angel (1946), at the opening scene , you can see an interesting element of comparison at 1' 51'': between the truck grille by Cameron and the windows shutters. It's a film noir. 1946 -50 is the golden age of the 'noir genre.
Wao..... Lovely 80s 90s in USA........ What was the time people were relaxed..... Less outsiders....... Texas, LA deserted
You can see his shorts at the 2:10 mark and the missing cigar burn at the 2:53 mark. One of the downsides of Super 35 filming and revealing more of the frame.
And if you put it in slow motion. At 3:06 you see they use a rubber knife and it bends when hitting Arnold.
