  • Everyone’s sweating Denzel, and deservedly so. But can we please acknowledge the guy playing the lead Russian? He’s utterly convincing as an amoral predator that you’re thrilled to see killed. Now THAT’S talent!

  • One of my favorite bits in this scene is the part where Robert is constantly opening and closing the door, symbolizing his internal battle with himself. He wants to remain true to the promise he made to his late wife that he won't walk this violent path anymore, but these gangsters have proven themselves to be so despicable that he can't stand the thought of just letting them walk.

    @Syryu@Syryu2 жыл бұрын
    • I felt it was to ritualistic to simply be an internal battle. too precise movements to be a struggle. I felt it was something like ocd. much like him counting the seconds of the encounter, adding up the time it actually took. it was all extremely methodical, and i thought the opening and the closing of the door was the same. very similar to people with ocd who do things like turn lights on and off 3 times before shutting them off completely.

  • Just the way this scene builds up to the mayhem we know is about to unfold, the way the tension is built, then released, is masterful. That and how direct, simple, and powerful Denzel's moves are throughout makes it all the more vicious, and how he saved the bearded henchman for last to really make him suffer with those corkscrews...yikes. Denzel is a fantastic action movie lead and he is just golden.

    • Easily the best fighting scene of this type ever made. It's also the gratification, the whole build up to it makes anyone really hate these arrogant thugs, in our minds we see everyone who's ever treated us badly or wrong or arrogantly abused their power against us, it's primal, so when he unleashes it's one of the most gratifying scenes to watch, a pure angel of vengeance in all it's glory descending on the wicked.. It's really extraordinary, one of Antoine Fuqua's best scenes ever.

Moving the skulls is basically warning the Russians in advance, forewarning, that shit's about to get real. There a many goofs in the scene, a trained close combat personal would never do. For instance, the guy with the gun, why should he go into distance? Just shoot him in the back, that's it.
