Am I the only one impressed he used a cold chisel faster than I do with an angle grinder?
The guy was a master with that thing.
Yeap, when you need to work faster use time lapse 😂 that works for me 😉
I hope you would know that was sped up 2 or 3X, an angle grinder would have done wonders.
@@dc6233 You've never seen me try to use an angle grinder
An angle grinder would have ignited the residual fuel in the tank... Is not the best option
Im 42 years old and when I have started to work like car mechanic we use to repair almost any componentof truck/ car. And now old part goes to garbage and new on car. Repairing was and always will be cheaper. This is real work!
These people rarlet have options to just run down the road and buy a new one or even a used one.
And most countries we would consider third world countries they simply can't get the parts or it's cheaper to fix it by hand than it is to actually obtain another one. Gave me the piper Factory
When I was a boy, my father taught me that REAL MECHANICS FIX things and the rest only replace parts.
$130.00 an hour is what my repair shop charges.

The sound of all that hammering at 3X speed gave me flash backs of when I was in a war zone.
All the guys sitting on the bench are thrilled to be out of the house and away from the wives. It's such a pleasure to be alive with one's friends out in the fresh air. Makes one almost feel alive again.
4:42 Preparing calcium carbide to produce acetylene for the welding process.
Nice catch. It shows their gas generator too. Do they compress the acetylene before the torch? What about the O2?
@@frankhage1734 the top piece of the generator does that...if you actually try to run acetylene through a compressor and into a tank, you'll soon be in need of a new workshop
Was wondering what that was
@@frankhage1734 Acetylene is unstable above 15 PSI, so I’m guessing that the lid allows a slight pressure but won’t let it over pressure.
Wth how does that work??

Truly impressive, especially the man doing the cold chisel and beating work with the sledgehammer. Amazing talent, with no safety equipment and terrible working conditions. These guys are amazing, very well done.

With a pressure washer hooked up to the tank it could have been blown back in no time, probably while still fitted to the truck. These hard working guys always find a way with limited equipment! ✌♥️🇬🇧
i thought they could have done it with compressed air???
No only with lands hard work

The diesel tank is anyway air tight.... Just fill the tank with high pressure air and it ll be back to shape without any hammering... science is everywhere❤️
Could be done with water or air but difficult to control and equipment is required. I must admit that these guys did a damn good job of it! Despite the conditions. I have done all sorts of welding including oxy-acetylene. But I did it with gloves and some goggles! How in the hell can they see the bead to control the weld? @@billkichman7770 Safety sandals are a requirement. Can't perform any welding, forging, or other dangerous kind of work without them.
Water from a tap (here, anyway...) is about 45 PSI I believe. Should be waaaay more than you need to do this tank. But in their country I have no idea if that's even an option, seeing how they make their own gas for the cutting torch!
@@Gersberms yes, completely filling it with water, pressurized to a very low pressure , say 20 psi would have gotten the tank 95 % there. Then a little mallet work would have done the rest. Next time make sure the vent is working!

Easier to pour a little petroleum into the empty tank and ignite it. The resulting sudden increase in pressure would get out most of the dents out a lot faster. The trick is getting the volume of petroleum right so you don’t launch the tank into low earth orbit! 😉

Ookay, I'm already aware of the limitations of materials and tools where you live, but there are some idea's to consider: From what I understand, the tank collapsed due to the air vent getting blocked and the fuel pump's suction reduced the air pressure in the tank enough to cause it to collapse. Sooo... if the pump is strong enough to collapse the tank, why don't you fill the tank with water, then use a similar fuel pump (with the cutoff disabled) to pump water INTO the tank? If I'm right, that type of pump would be strong enough to put the tank under enough pressure to push the collapsed sections back out and a little teasing with a hammer could ease the creases in the metal. Tank fixed, less noise and zero need to play with the welder. A for effort A for results E for the most obnoxious method possible. All in all, its the end result that counts. I DO suggest trying the technique I suggested, it could save your ears from all that hammering and your eyes from arc eye
Air pressure outside the tank collapses the tank, not the suction from the pump. You would need a lot more pressure than a diesel lift pump would put out to push the dents out of that tank, and it would be very difficult to control what shape the tank would be after you got it to a pressure that would push the sides out.
@@--_DJ_-- you're spot on regarding the air pressure. With the inner air pressure being reduced, the outside air pressure would press on the tank, causing it to collapse.... I guess my original attempt at explaining it wasn't good enough. Either way, my hope was the pump could push enough water into the tank to work on returning the cylinder to its former shape, but you are right, the flat ends of the tank could bulge outwards, though the actual cylinder part, shouldn't deform if you cut the water off at the right time. I imagine a pressure washer would have the hydraulic force behind it to do the job and have the controll to stop before excessive distortion occurs, but I can't guarantee the state of the tank/drum ends if you don't cut the feed when the cylinder part is straightened out as good as it can be. I do know some mechanics and restorers have used hydroforming to repair tanks before though, so, from their experience, it should have some degree of success. As I said though, not sure about the flat ends though
@@--_DJ_-- I can see that you scored low in physics when at school. You mention the crushing of atmosphere is too great for a lift pump to push the tank back to shape but what you fail to realise is that the lift pump is already within the atmosphere and thus has equilibrium with pressure. Any additional pressure made by the lift pump is a positive pressure above atmospheric air pressure. Such a simple equation and yet you missed it!
@@jackking5567 The pressure inside the tank and outside the tank being the same has nothing to do with the pressure a lift pump can output. My score in physics has very little bearing on anything here, my experience with lift pumps is pretty handy though. If you are going to be a smart ass, at least try to sound intelligent while you are doing it.
Не проще наполнить водой , потом закрыть. И на костер поставить так в тыщу раз быстрее будет

Can you imagine how quickly the Indian economy would tank if they started loading all the OH&S palaver on to these workers?!
@@mikef.1000 Littel talked about fact here in the US is how many on-the-job injuries and accidents come from the overuse of safety gear and practices. Despite often making the top 5 causes of injury in most any given occupation and trade, injury/accident due to safety gear/practices are rarely ever listed let alone documented for what they are. Most company safety inspectors are pressured by OSHA and the like regulatory agencies to purposely not list such things as the cause, but something else even if it's a painfully obvious and a lame scapegoat excuse and everyone knows it.
You seem to have some knowledge on this area. I am curious about beating out the dents, particularly the areas where the metal was really creased. Doesn't beating out a crease create a big weak point and potential leak?
@@centexan I know you're not addressing me (I think you mean @emptech ) but I don't think beating out the dent is a problem in this case, as the tank is not under pressure.

At the time as a young apprentice I can’t remember how many times I bang my fingers and thumb with a hammer. These guys got hammering superpower’s.
It probably would have been faster to find 2 old 50 gallon drums and weld them together and just put the fill cap and other accessories on the drums. I'm surprised no one has made a back yard roller system to slide the tank onto without the ends and just slowly roll it and apply pressure like you would a sheet metal roller. Hand crank or a really low geared electric motor would straighten that out super past. Almost like their rail road tie system but with 3 rollers and some pressure, no hammering needed.

There is no doubt about the extraordinary skill of these people. But to put something like this in your car and fill it with several hundred litres of fuel (combustible) requires great courage...
I get that they were trying to lose as little material as possible, but couldn’t they have done a horizontal cut and unrolled the tank to flatten it back to a sheet and then retooled it and sealed the seam with donor material?
Quite so ! It would have been less work !
