Oreo is the best-selling cookie in the world.
You probably know of the tradition of twisting, licking or dunking the cookie, but few know the dark side of its history.
That’s because many of its secrets have been buried for over 100 years, starting with the cookie being a knockoff with a questionable filling.
This is the story of Oreo.

Hydrox deserves more popularity and people nowadays says that Hydrox copied Oreo even tho Oreo was the one who copied it. Let's pray that Hydrox will become successful.
I only eat hydrox like I have been for the past couple years and if it is ever cookies and cream or labeled Oreo then I will call it hydrox
Literally nobody says that but go off i guess
@@joey9378 I agree even if you like Oreo more than hydrox nobody denies that it is the original
I can't see any hydrox cookies in the supermarket shelves or Amazon. Guess I'll still stay as a loyal Oreo fan even if hydrox is the original. If hydrox starts selling their cookies I'll buy it and see if it tastes better than Oreos.
The chance of them getting back on the line is relatively small due to Oreo's success, but never zero.
I grew up in the fifties and sixties and hydrox was the best cookie. The chocolate cookies in oreos were simply way too sweet. With hydrox you could taste the chocolate. If he wants to bring back another great product I'd suggest banana flips in regular and chocolate with banana cream in the middle. Kind of like a cross between a taco and a large twinkie with way more cream filling. Always my favorite as a kid.
How about the vanilla wafer cookies with the Kelloggs crunch on the outside 😋
@@pamelavance648 ?
I just bought a pack. And that's what I noticed too. You can taste the cocoa and vanilla flavor a bit more. And the cookie is a bit more crunchy.
When I was a kid in the early 90s, I told my dad’s friend, an attorney of Greek heritage that I like Oreos a lot. He told me “Oreo” means “good” in Greek, which I don’t think is correct according to Google translator, but I believed him for like 20 years. The packaging is the same color as the Greek flag though (blue and white). I saw online that it was named after “Gold” in Latin. The video did not mention that, but “oro” is Spanish for gold, which is a Latin language, and also similar to “Oreo.” I love Oreos, but I am disappointed in how they used predatory tactics to compete with their competition. This is a really good video!
Oreo, written as ωραίο in Greek (άι in Greek is pronounced similar to the e in Oreo), does actually mean "nice" or "pretty" or "good". In fact Oreodaphne literally means "pretty laurel" in Greek.

Lately Oreo has been marketed heavily here in Germany, I tried them and honestly they weren't any good and was wondering why they were so well known. Well certainly interested to see if Hydrox are any better, should I ever see them on the shelves.
it also happens in my country, I saw no hydrox in ANY retailers. This may probably be an NTSC region exclusive or America exclusive currently, since I live in the Middle East.
@@jgadventure same I live in UAE
Hydrox is better. We ate those over the Oreo in the Southwest. Less sweet and you can taste more of the chocolate. As I recall Hydrox avoided using lard for the creme while Oreo only ditched it over the last 7 years.
I've had both. Hydrox has a bit more flavor to it. More chocolate in the cookie. And the filling is softer and a bit sweeter. The only advantage Oreo has is the cookie is softer. But that's about it. Not as flavorful.
Hydrox needs a name change. It will never outdo Oreo with that name. It sounds like a cleaning product.

To give you an example: I can eat pure cocoa powder (from the baking section) which has 0.5% sugar in it and can actually taste the sweetness.
