when i was a kid in the 90s i've ate imported cookie sandwiches once and never really realized it was Hydrox brand. then when Mondelez started officially importing Oreos to my country a few years later i always had that thought in my mind "i remember these used to taste better when i was a little kid". so it is funny that i realized just a couple of years ago that the cookie sandwich brand i ate that time as a little kid were actually Hydrox cookies. i wish Hydrox was still around, or more correctly - i wish Hydrox were sold more broadly and even globally. it is really difficult to get hold of them, especially because Mondelez are actively trying to push them away from literally every retailer.
Loved this story. I have an additional perspective for you. As a photographer. When making an image of food related stuff, the Oreo is really only one sided and thus boring. However [at the time this was revealed to me] Sunshine Hydrox offered you much more interesting compositions for making art. In this way: you could place the Sunshine or the Hydorx side of the cookie either both up Sunshine Sunshine or Hydrox Hydrox OR you could go Sunshine up in part of the image and Hydrox in the other part of the image. giving you more diversity in your creative project. So you have a Sunshine-Hydrox option for the image or just use the plain ole boring Oreo in your image.

To keep the Oreo theories going, here's something to consider: could Oreos being "Milk's favorite cookie" have something to do with the fact that you don't need milk to make Oreos? This came to me after I saw the ingredients used to make them and I thought, 'That's unusual for a cookie,' as you would usually expect for every cookie you eat to be made with milk. Or, at least, I did anyways.
Also on a certain milk brand which i forgot it was like a few years ago on the label that something talking about chocolate chips being what it’s suppose to go with. So seems like milk doesn’t think the same about oreo.
Milk isn't really a thing you use to make cookies. To make the chocolate or chocolate flavoring, possibly. To make the creme in the middle? Probably. But for plain ol' chocolate chip cookies, there's no milk. Dairy, yes, in the form of butter; Milk, no.

Personally, I throw my whole cookie into a glass of milk, wait approximately 8 seconds, fish it out with a spoon, eat it whole, and repeat the process in a trance like state until I eventually come to realizing I need a new package of oreos.

This i never knew! I always thought hydrox was a rip off Oreos and I always wondered why my dad preferred hydrox over Oreos.
I’m allergic to Dairy and once ate an Oreo in front of my friends. They were horrified and asked where my epipen was. I had to laugh and tell them Oreos don’t contain dairy, and showed them the package ingredients list to prove it. They started freaking out wondering if there’s no dairy then what on earth is the cream in the middle 😂

I listen to this video on my walk to work everyday. I have no idea why. It scratches this weird brain itch I didn't know was there until I watched it(this and the chex video)
The reason Oreo asks the question: "How do you eat your Oreo?" "Do you twist it, dunk it, etc?" is to make people subconsciously visualize eating Oreos. Advertising tactic. Makes people more likely to buy if they see themselves with the product.
They also include a beverage to pair with it.
Can’t you just accept that it’s a way better cookie, all the advertising in the world doesn’t matter if the product isn’t any good. People talk.

Oreo won’t be able to sue as hydrox would be able to counter sue saying Oreo copied them first possibly causing Oreos to stop being produced under court order and Oreos company won’t risk losing their biggest seller. I've always loved Oreos but thought they were a bit too sweet, and from what I've read, Hydrox is less sweet and more chocolate-y... Sounds like the perfect snack. I really wish Hydrox could make a huge come-back internationally so that I could try it, and also because it feels like it morally deserves it lol

I eat mine in E. Eating the top half, then the cream, then the bottom. Except sometimes after eating the top half I stick another Oreo to the exposed cream half so it's a triple, and then the process repeats.

I work at a grocery store and I actually can confirm that the Hydrox cookies are usually on the top shelf while the Oreos get a whole section of shelves for all their flavors of cookies.

Hey guys let’s be honest with ourselves. If we all saw those 2 ads for Oreo and hydrox today, we’d go to sleep thinking about where to buy hydrox cookies.
Well yeah, but there was like 30 years between those two commercials. One aired in the 50's, and the other in the 80's.

I remember back during 2020 going to the gas station to get snacks with my friend and the only cookies they had (that we could Afford) was Hydrox, we joked about it being a copy cat of the oreo but then we ate it will milk and it was better then oreos...

@@placeholder_009 The point is that grocery store marketing is manipulative. They went in for ONE thing. That means they had a list (even though technically not a list since it was just one thing) and came out with 6 things that they didn't need. Walk through your local grocery store and go to the cereal aisle. I guarantee things like Cap'n Crunch, Fruity Pebbles, Reese's Puffs, etc (those unhealthy breakfast cereals kids like) are closer to the bottom/eye level while healthier stuff (Life, Cheerios, Special K, etc) are closer to the top. Why? Cuz kids are short so those unhealthy cereals geared towards kids are at eye levels for kids. A lot of stuff is this way and it's purposefully set up that way in grocery stores. Right down to those cheap candies and mints at the checkout line. Cuz then you have to wait while the temptation of your favorite candy bar is right there and it's only like a dollar so why not? That's the point amy was trying to make.
I buy what I need and get out. I don't buy anything I don't want to buy period.

At my Walmart, Hydrox is actually placed at the end of the coffee aisle and is stocked by the Walmart employees, a full 22 aisles away from Oreo. That way Oreo has NO say in where it goes

I want to give u a fun fact- in 7:38 in the video matpat starts talking about kosher food, and under the word "kahsruth" is a sentence in Hebrew, that translates to "mat- pat asked americans, what do you want". I live in Israel, and thats fucking hilarious and also shows how much time and work the team puts into the video. Congrats, u earned the like on my behalf.
