    • I used to use slate dressers, one like a spinning rotary guillotine, and one with rotating disks like a can opener, the guillotine seemed more dangerous, though the guy shing me how to use these machines hed his hand pulled into the dick dresser mangling it badly, and he had his fingers fixed in a bent position so he could continue to hold a chisel and keep working at the slate quarry. I have used a few dangerous machines in my time, and still regularly use circular saws. Many of these machines were used safely in my view., though one or two weren't.

  • Why some videos are "flowing"? They look like they were shot under water. Video stabilisation algorithm artifacts? If all those machines are home made, I would like to see industrial ones :D. Those solutions, even really homemade range from "someone is going to die", through "someone is gonna loose fingers" to "I wouldn't give it to a teenager, but capable adult with instructions will be fine". Some are just so easy to modify to make it safe. Some guards, safer feeding mechanism and would be pretty safe. Other are pointlessly dangerous. And drills seem stupid, or at least only good for specific purposes, like splitting long logs (but the car hack seems very dangerous, not sure if those drills can grab cloth or tissue, but it looks like it want's to chomp those ankles so bad).

  • If it will do that to a piece of wood just imagine what it will do with flesh and bone. Yikes.

  • 5:49 makes no sense - why would you use a valuable chainsaw that wears, breaks and needs oiling, when a splitter will last for ever?

  • Everybody splitting wood to smithereens making it burn faster and more heat go out the chimney, meanwhile i use biggest wood i can find, up to foot in diameter that can fit in my furnace. Rarely have to split anything, like 2 halfs of the thickest logs that can fit in, with 1,5foot length will burn for 4-6 hours. And i can start a fire with those big logs, just a bit of diesel and charcoal from previous run and in half a hour its clean fire without needing much attention or setting. Granted its seasoned 3-5 years old dry firewood with low moisture, mostly Earl and Ash. Seasoning and drying your wood is the most important step, dry wood will produce more useful heat no matter the shape or size. The moist wood you need to split to little pieces, it have inconsistent burn, smoke like crazy, you need more of it and produce more light then heat. Carefully set up fireplace will after reaching its optimal temperature will burn even the smoke/wood gas. Only 2 potential dangers. As you burning wood in low oxygen environment it can produce carbon monoxide, but a chimney with good draft and air intake for fire negate this. Second danger if not careful the wood gas can explode, but you first smell something is wrong. This happened to me and my father but while burning saw dust and chips from cutting the wood. And it was mostly because we load too much, starve the fire below. Its smoking like hell and when the smoke catch fire, wooosh. I just make byt of smoke inside, my dad break the glass.
